"The Village of Aurilia was formed on the planet Dathomir by a small group of like-minded Force sensitive refugees who had, for one reason or another, abandoned their old lives. Some of them were hunted by agents of the Empire, their strange knack for piloting, healing, or combat making them dangerous to the Emperor, and the rumors of a Sith Lord who held a high power amongst the Imperials."
http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Friday+Feature+Village+of+Aurilia
Ok, do we see the problem here? No? Judging by from the story of the village, they are ENEMIESof the Empire, so why would they train Imperials(especialy imperials who have gotten the highest faction rank they can?) Wouldnt it be a danger to the existence of the village? As you can see, the story the Devs have created for becomming a Jedi basicaly says Imperials wouldnt be trained by the villagers, however the Devs are so sorry they are not even willing to follow the very story they themselves created, and allow both rebels and imperials to go there and train. You can go there in full Imp officer uniform or ST armor and they dont care one bit, even though their SUPPOSED to be in hiding from the Empire, and would logicaly kill any Imperial that stumbles across their location for their own protection.
What is my point? Am I saying Imperials shouldnt be allowed to become Jedi? Not at all. What I'm saying is that the current system for becomming a jedi is borked. Now, before I submit my actual idea for a new system for becomming a Jedi, let me point out that NO system for becomming a Jedi is correct according to the story. How? Yoda told Luke in ROTJ that after he(yoda) died, luke would be the last Jedi at that time. Yes, I know this game takes place before Yoda said that, but unless you want to argue that EVERY Jedi that could have been around at the time this game takes place was killed by the time Yoda said that, what Yoda said most likely applies to this time period as well.
Now, since no story the Devs invent will justify Jedi being around at this time(other than Luke and Yoda, since Obi-Wan is dead), and they ARE going to allow players to become Jedi, I say we should at least have a way to do it that is FUN and makes more sense than the contradictory story the Dev's have created for the village(the contradiction already explained)
Here is my idea: Enclaves are this game's version of the jedi/or a dark jedi temple, right? Where the jedi practice their skills, the council sits, etc. But as we can see in ep I and II(and III), there is a wide range of jedi in the temple from initiates(the bear clan), to padawans, to knights, to masters, to council members. So we can see that the current system the game has, of only Jedi KNIGHTS being able to enter is wrong according to SW. Now currently, to become a jedi you get glowy, meet an old man, get a wp to a village, and go do the quest there. But if there is a jedi temple(enclave) already existing, whyare youtaught by people who arent jedi(only FS)? Wouldnt it make more sense for the datapad you loot from the sith camp to give you a wp to the jedi or dark jedi enclave(according to your faction), and you go there and basicaly have a theme park type progression from initiate to master, actualy being taught by jedi masters?
Once again, NO Jedi are supposed to be around other than Yoda and Luke, and that means NO enclaves either. BUT THEIR ARE ENCLAVES. Whether there should be or not, there are. So if they are there, THAT is the place someone should go to to become a Jedi or a Dark Jedi, not a village. You should be taught by actual Jedi, not FS novices.

Dude?
Are you trying to make actual sense out of any of this?
It's kind like that movie where at the end the computer plays like 5000 games of tic tac toe with itself and realizes it can't win....

Yo dude you are in the same boat they are. Imp with wierd powers, imperials hunt Jedi So if you are imp and even going Jedi it is a contradiction so if you want to play tic tac toe so much
and split hairs don't be Jedi if the role play is too off for you sounds to me like you are messing up the devs story not them LOL. shoot look what happened to Melachai. That is why Imp BH's hunt Imp jedi. The story seems to holding pretty true so far.

Hmm... What you're suggesting is at least as contradicting as the curent explanation. But you got the point right: there aren't supposed to be any other Jedi around, or at least not as many as we see as soon as we log on. But we can't really change the story of the movies, so if anything, we would have to scroll the time forth or back... Say more like KotOR (3000 years before) or some hundred years after episode VI... But then again, there wouldn't be any Empire to fight or join, or well, taking KotOR in perspective, there was the Sith of course, and their ideals of an Empire under a Sith Lord.
My suggestion would be either changing the timeline or simpley make it near impossible to become a Jedi... Like some un-influencedJedi Masters eachhandpicking one apprentice per month or something like that...
But it's all pure spectaculations... I'm not the one complaining
But of course the story is a bit sketchy...

Not true. Both explanations contradict the SW story, but the village one not only contradicts the SW story, but contradicts ITSELF, by saying their a village of people in hiding from the Empire, but at the same time training Imperials. You see, I already admitted no way is right according to the SW story, I'm just saying we should have a story that doesnt contradict itself. My way would have you go to the Jedi enclave for training if your Rebel or the Dark Jedi enclave if your an imperial, and as I already stated, if your training to be a Jedi, you should be trained by actual Jedi(or Dark Jedi) not FS refugees. Going by this game's very own logic, there are Jedi and enclaves right now. There shouldnt be, but no matter what system we're gonna have for becomming a Jedi, you'll still have Jedi and enclaves. My point is, if we're going to have them, it makes sense that a person who wants to be a Jedi would go to an enclave if it existed, and in this game it does. More sense then them going to a village on dathomir thats supposed to be enemies of the empire but actualy makes their enemies more powerful by training imperials in the way of the force.

I think it's more important for SOE to change the way Jedi are played to make it more fun for everyone to be in a Star Wars game with players playing Jedi. If they don't make Jedi characters act like Jedi, then it's not just not Star Wars-like, it's anti-Star Wars-like. SWG game mechanics need to make playing a Jedi look and act like Jedi. Take a page from some pen and paper Star Wars RPGs or something!
It's disgusting to see all the Jedi-looking characters completely befouling the heart of Star Wars. Becoming the supreme looters of the game is just wrong.
I understand that most players pursue Jedi because there's nothing better to do. I hope that new content is focused on non-Jedi so that is less the case in the future. There are already so many Jedi everywhere. Still the trend towards a mostly Jedi game continues.
In addition to the way current Jedi detract from the Star Wars feel of SWG, superior character capabilities without balancing character restrictions makes Jedi inherently bad for the game. How much work it takes to get there is irrelevant since we all know so many players are willing to grind their fingers off. The day to day play of a Jedi character should be living up to a code of conduct that is only fun for some and restrictive enough to be worthy of their powers. ...and the ability of non-Jedi to enjoy all the game's content, without a Jedi lord/sovereign/Sir Fancy Pajamasto lead them, should be safeguarded during content development.

Everyone is making some good points here. True, no Jedi ENCLAVES should be around, however, Yoda and Luke are not the ONLY Jedi around during the Trilogy, they are just the center piece to a larger story. MINE!!! j/k but seriously, Yoda, Luke, Obi-Wan(until Ep.IV) are the only ones mentioned in the movies. There is plenty of other lore going on during the movies, we have to remeber, several years passed between movies (Just stating as a fact, I know everyone knows that anyways, I'm going somewhere with this just give me some time :smileyhappy
Keiron Halcyon (I thinkn that's the wrong spelling) is around somewhere, I don't remember if Kyle Katarn became a Jedi before or after the fall of the Empire. I believe in the lore there are six others specifically mentioned,a lot of these types of things are mentioned in EU (which even though everyone says is not official, and it's not per-say, it is still approved by Lucas, which I guess dosen' t mean much seeing as he made boba fett a clone instead of a security guard/enforcer dude thing, and some of the things happening in Ep. 3 that I will not comment on because it would be spoilers) But yes, I do think the devs should work on the Story for the Village. Remember in Ep. 2 where Yoda is in the room with the Yunglings? You can't tell me none of them escaped the Jedi Temple, we will see with Ep. 3 on that one though I suppose. But my only point, is everyone makes the statement ALL the Jedi except for Obi-Wan and Yoda died. (I'm over shooting a bit, I know everyone dosen't say that heh) Obi-Wan says all but extinct, not extinct, which could be interpreted as him meaning Himself and Yoda, but I have read EU and even some official documents have Jedi listed in the time of the Empire, granted the reason you never hear about them is they are in hiding and don't want to be gunned down by the Empire. Anywasy, thats my two cents.

I already addressed this. The movies are canon, and the facts in them simply cannot be proven wrong by any EU material. In ROTJ Yoda tells luke that after he dies "the LAST of the Jedi will you be". What this means, obviously, is that there are no other Jedi in existance at that time. Now, as I already pointed out, this game does take place a few years before Yoda made that comment, HOWEVER, if you want to say there could have been Jedi in existence before Yoda made that comment, that means they have to have ALL died by the time of ROTJ, which is not likely, so its MOST likely that what Yoda said applied not only to the ROTJ time period, but to the time period of the classic trilogy as a whole, meaning that there were no other Jedi during the time of the 3 original movies than the ones we saw. The movies supercede ANY and ALL EU material, no matter how well written, that contradict them, whether fans want it that way or not. That isnt according to me, but to GL, who has the final say in SW.
As far as your comment about the younglings at the temple, it is shown what happens to them in ep III...(and I say that from having read the novel)

I agree with Everitt here. I mean regardless of what is "supposed" to be and what is not, the fact of the matter is that there ARE enclaves and there ARE a lot of Jedi running around now. Making Jedi Master NPCs to progress you through the skills (much like the pilot quests) would be a refreshing change and certainly more interesting. I know I enjoy the little stories behind the pilot quests.
I think most would agree that at this point anything that would be more quest driven as opposed to grind driven would be a major improvement.

Amen, brother. Besides, what's the whole point of the game? Is it to be 100% accurate and true to the stories? Screw that. I vote for the idea of putting something FUN into the game.
Besides, Lucas has already mentioned that he doesn't give a rat's patootie what the fans think; he has his own story to tell and screw whether we like it or not.

lets not forget that the whole jedi council couldnt forsee what was happening to the republic so how would yoda.. one person on a planet full of dark energy be able to see how many jedi were scattered throughut the entire galaxy at the time he says that.

There may not be "Jedi" but there are Force Weilders running amok, and also the Imperial Inquisition is a bunch of Dark Jedi.
Though if you want to stick strictly to canon, Yoda was behind the times ^^.
And of course quests are the goooooood stuff.
