So, my question is, should I go ahead and train all my unlocked trees now, and sacrifice my template; or would I be in the clear even if they decided to up and change something drastic.

hmmm but I read here that some had neither of these originally and lost it... My supposition is wrong then.

some notes

• you can still get to the village if you had talked to the old man
• you can still talk to him if you were glowly and then reduced to surging
• it appears that it does not affect your ability to turn in xp for fs or training
• it came with patch 24

My character who still has inner glowhas badges forneutral nad rebel corvette destroy missions and Jabba's theme park, so it's not that

It was those who barely made it that lost the most

and notice... I already discarded that theory

OK, the point is, I had 9 more characters who lost inner glow, they all had mixed in mos eisley starter badges, none of them had jabba's and only one of them had corvette, so based on that I can assume that Starter badges for sure.
