Thread: Too Many Jedi

Well I think the original poster has made a point, but he fumbles around saying it. I think the point is lack of end game. I mean really what is there to do after awhile? I've been playing this game for a month now. My goal when I bought it was to someday be a Jedi. I am not all about being uber. Actually, I'd like to try some role playing and be/act how a Jedi is supposed to. When I first saw Star Wars the Jedi were what interested me the most. It is certain I will be a Jedi someday. That being said, I've been playing this game for a month now, and am already CL72, a Master rifleman, 2/4/4/4 BH, with some Medic thrown in. If I had worked on BH at all in the last week I would be a MBH easily. That is with just a months play time. I am part of a small guild that is very close knit. We have hunting parties almost every night. Lately we've been doing Krayt hunting so I have some pearls and tissues. However, after doing all the same stuff over and over I decided to start visiting some POIs, and then eventually did the themeparks. Suddenly I was glowie and am now done with Phase 2 of the village. I am veyr happy to be on my way to Jedi.

My biggest problem at first was going to the village. There was like 2 full fellows there converting xp. Some even had names like Ubernoob, and Michael Jackson. I mean what is the deal with that??? Do you really want to work hard for a Jedi, sometimes taking a year to complete, only to log in and have to look at a name like that??? At any rtae, it seems like the Jedi population is only on the rise. With no end game I don't see how this would change. maybe another character slot would help. I know I would like to try other professions. I'd like to try Ranger, Smuggler, and even some crafting. The thing is I am not going to drop all my skills just to do it. Then regrind my way back up if I ifnd I don't like something. I play with some good friends so I am not going to start over on another server when I invested too much time on my curent server.

I really don't have any answers. I think another character slot would really help though.

Considering that you can get CL 80 in two or three days, jedi are currently the only real end game content that SWG has to offer. If you puta block on them then SOE will loose many customers quickly. Most of the new Jedi-wannabe's that you are seeing are a direct product of the new movie anyways.

Once they realize that its going to take them eighteen weeks minimum to even become a Padawan, most of them will end up leaving the game.

You put something in the game that's reachable and eventually people will get there. The population will only go up. Sure there are too many, but once there's one eventually there'll be more.

I agree that most of the Jedi do not act like Jedi or even Sith for that matter. They walk around with their double bladed sabersin major cities like its a damn magic show. I ran into one Jedi the other day in Bestine whose name was "Bantha Ballz", and yes that was seriously his name. Its people like that who give Jedi a bad name.

Comments like '90% of the player base wants to be a jedi' make me laugh. Where did that statistic come from? Because I'm pretty sure it was dark and smelly.

The only reason I go to the village anymore is to turn in my pistol xp when it's near cap. I did the math a long time ago and realized that there was probably no way I was going to finish the grind, but with my brother still working on getting his template finished, I hunt with him and get xp, so I turn it in. Even if/when I make padawan, I probably won't grind out any further, but you never know. I mostly want to unlock a second character slot.

But I agree 100% with the view that the 'problem' is the jedi players. They're annoying. There could be hundreds of jedi on the server at once and I wouldn't care if I didn't see them all over the place. Can't even relax in the cantina without some padawan putting on a personal light show these days.

Here is the MAIN problem why there are "too many" jedi in the servers:

--> Because forums like this post as a sticky "How to become Jedi, from noob to force sensitive and more! v1.3"

It is posts like this that have people jediing so much. I am not going to lie, when i first got the game i was SOOO amped up to be a jedi I searched all kinds of forums and found guides and what not and became FS in the 1st week I had the game. HOWEVER, it are these guides that are the reason why there are too many jedi.

Solution to this problem:

-- CHANGE THE PATH OF JEDI. Make something different, unique, and DONT HAVE IT POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET! I realize this is nearly impossible to do, because other sites would have this info posted like Alakazam's, etc. But perhaps, maybe even for a little while it would fix the problem. SOE would need to re-do the jedi path, and leave it up to the player base to figure out how to become a jedi. Maybe you woul dhave to seek out NPCs and train in the jedi arts that could take months of real time to do, or perhaps its the village but altered, who knows? They should change it for the new Publish, or the next, and not have the info posted all over the place.

Personally, all you peple that are saying "limit the jedi population to 30 per server" or things like "there can be only 10 light and 10 dark jedi per server"....those comments are stupid and ignorant. Other than the obvious reason that IF SOE did this, they would lose 75%+ of their player base, there is the question of: Is this really fair? that still remains. The answer, NO. You can't have "a lucky 20 players" to be light and dark jedi for the WHOLE server! People buy the game, every person PAYS (real cash) a month to play a game and they want to play it their own way. You can not limit jedi slots JUST BECAUSE Joe Shmo thinks that there are too many jedi. Well too bad! Leave the game if you have a problem with it.

The problem isn't the NUMBER of Jedi. Its the Jedi population itself.

Instead, you have 500 d00d j33da1 running around... and speaking in "omg, haha u r so n3wb, I pwnd u" idiot speak.

They really should just put in a penalty system for stupid jedi. Either make the visibility punishment extremely swift and harsh in towns, or require you to plug yourself into your computer and, after a short IQ test, be electrocuted to death if you are a jedi and have an IQ below 90. The last situation is a win win for everyone.

AGREED! I also particularly can't stand the way they act and talk either. I love hunting them or just seeing them around calling everyone "newbs" or "noobs" just because they can't kill the jedi alone. Or can't do as much damage or healing that the jedi can do. /rolleyes Jedi are OVERLY cocky and annoying, and treat this game and trash talk like its Counterstrike.

...speaking of counterstrike, maybe SOE should add in some "sprays" for these immature a$$holes LOL, so the bounty hunters can spray their tags on the corpses...

DazzyDoodle..

Nah, just force Jedi into hiding!

If jedi forces are used in a city, an NPC gank squad might appear within 10 minutes - the more skills are used, the more likely the squad appears.

People might start using their non-jedi alts to fight if they know a pair of lvl300 goons will appear...

Me, I plan on having a padawan crafter - so that I get a free second character to fight with. Just don't want to give up that crafting!

<likes it. that'd be killer if that happened. lol

Though I do agree with some of the posts here, I would recommend going to a different solution. Going back to hologrinding is not the answer nor is the way it is setup now. What needs to be done is it should be random. Totally random in all aspects. When a character does 1 through 10 things in playing he will become "Glowy" but for person two he may need to do 5 - 8. But noone knows what they are or how to identify them.

This will prevent even the childish of people of getting jedi but also set it back to the way it should be. Most people depicted in the movies did not know they were force enhanced. They were told they were or maybe they never were told and died never knowing.

Just my 2 cents.

How would that prevent anything? That way, people who don't want FS would get it, or random people who don't deserve it. FS should be something you get for being a devoted gamer of SWG.

I love this idea of adding a non-Jedi path to unlocking a second char slot. The ONLY reason I'm trying to reach padawan is to unlock the second slot. It would be fantastic to have the freedom that would allow. Frankly, once I reached master rifleman, I was too attached to the way my character played to be switching around classes, dropping things to add others and such. I think the number of skillpoints is just about right, but I would DEARLY love to be able to have a combat character and a crafting character (there's no point to this game if crafting isn't there). I dropped all my crafting to be able to do the Jedi stuff on my own (I hate having to rely on people...they're so...undependable), and I miss it already, though it's only been a week.

If I had a path that was non-Jedi, I would jump on it in a heart-beat...I've seen way too many Jedi already. I can remember when the first ever was unlocked...it was a miracle. I don't really care one way or the other if more join the ranks, but I want my second character...PLEASE PLEASE SOE, give us a non-Jedi method. It would save alot of grief for your players, and it would save alot of grief for the poor poor souls designated to read these forums to bring you more info on your player base....not to mention make you more money by keeping satisfied customers in the moola loop.
