Everybody naggs, whinnes or curses at CU, but when they see what it all brings ( group hunting, new armor, maybe new quests) and what they might bring in after the CU (new quests for sure, a new expansion maybe even another one within a few months too, some new dungeons, crafters revamp ...) maybe then everyone thinks it is for the good of the game

BTW. Jedi should be rare and not a standard proffesion like t is now, CU will make it harder to become and to stay an uber jedi... so LONG LIVE THE CU

Lets see... "Group Hunting" You can do that now. "New Armor" Long overdue. New Quests... omg... does he mean there's going to be ACTUAL CONTENT in the CU? These are STANDARD THINGS that every game should get from time to time. Way to raise the bar to mediocrity!

Group leveling... dont even get me started on it... FFXI anyone? I think fighting in a group is fine, but DONT FORCE ME TO. That's just one of my many gripes with the CU.

Jedi.... ah yes, just what a game needs. A class so rare that only the financially abundant people can manage to get them. Just what we need, more limitations to jedis. I doubt you're even one... why else would you receivesuch a huge nerf with open arms? You have almost no choice in your template... You need MLS and you need Defender otherwise you're going to get bent over and that's the end of that. How can you be so accepting?

I've played since launch and on tc, what part of the cu exactly brings back memories of the early days? There's nothingin the cu that is remotely similar to anything that's been ingame since launch. I think it's a big mistake to do the upgrade, but give it a week live and people will come up with the proper templates to be as effective as before.

I can tell you how I can be so accepting of this. Anything that discourages people from becoming Jedi is OTAY wif me.

So what if the mechanics of the game, the game system itself, resembles or even IS from another game. The base game engine does not make SWG what it is.

If they pulled whole the combat engine out of EQ2 and dropped it into SWG, then this game would be that much better simply because the EQ2 engine is heads and shoulders above what SWG currently has.

Using the EQ2 combat system doesn't turn Krayt's into dragons, Meatlumps into goblins, or the Imp's into city guards. The content of this game is STILL Star Wars, only we get to play with a combat system that actually works and makes combat more than "spam best special".

If you believe so strongly that the mechanics define the game, then you are better off playing KOTOR or Republic Commando, because the mechanics of any game change on a yearly basis. Some are as big as the CU, but most aren't. Still, the system will change enough that every year the game YOU play will change.

Combat in SWG has been a joke for 18+ months. No skill is required, no decisions neccessary. Just buff, armor, spam...

And no, the old system couldn't be "fixed" or have the bugs worked out. The problem with the old system was on a fundamental level that doesn't allow any fix. The base problems of the current, "old" system precluded fixing as the same old problems would emerge in new ways a few weeks after any "fix". By completely revamping the combat system from the ground up using elements of successful systems already in use, SWG will finally have an interesting and dynamic system of combat.

If you can't comprehend that the new system IS going to make the game look a bit different, I can't help you. Any change changes the way a game looks and feels, but even if the entire game was changed to the same system as EQ2, it would still be Star Wars and that is something you CAN'T get from other MMPORPG's

All I know is i've played the CU for 25+ hours since the first day it arrived and I think its horrible. The new icons are hideous and most of them have nothing to do with the actual skill. For instance, the swordsman headhit skill looks like a jedi holding a lightsabre. The lack of a combat queue, which made this game unique imo, is missing. With no combat queue it is almost impossible to tell you are in combat when you do have sound on. Think of the people who have no soundcard, no working speakers, or are hearing impared. They have no standardized set strength for the different npcs and mobs. Meaning that a level 5 nuna can hit for 500 damage and have say 500 health, while a level55 nuna (yes i've seen one) can hit for 4k and have health of upwards of 10-15k. They should have a narrow range of what these npcs can spawn level wise with a max cap on damage they can deal out and overall health they can have. I'm still after playing for 25+ hours confused on how the different weapon speeds are calculated and work and what the max caps are for the different weapons. Will we still be able to hit once per second if we are capped or not? Overall, while I agree that their are changes that should have been made to the combat system, I think that this overhaul is way to drastic. What should have been done imo, is that the bugs that currently exist should have been taken care of and that the current combat system should have been tweaked. You could have almost balanced things out alone if they had simply tweaked doc buffs a bit or increased damage output on the high level npcs and mobs only. This is a bad turn for the game i think at least.

Also, what gets me is that every day their poll goes to over 50-60% at least voting for a 1. And they post that they are getting constant possitive feedback. Doesn't this strike as propaganda? Dunno about everyone else, but I have already pre-ordered GuildWars and am going to give this CU a month or two and then move on if its the way it is now. It is so filled with bugs and holes that I don't see how they can possibly fix all of them in time for their scheduled release. If they are so concered with balancing things out they should stop and think about what all these bugs are going to do to us if they release it as is. Sorry about the rant, I just feel that I should stand up for what I believe is a injustice to us all.

Do not get me wrong folks, it ain't perfect, but its a damn sight better than what we got now....

Yes, all the HAM bars and the cartoon effects and the balloony icons ARE ugly, but better than the drab crapola we have now. No, they aren't perfect, they need toned down a bit, especially the effects graphics. At least give us an option to turn the effects off. I much prefer having the state effects just by my HAM bar and on my opponents HAM bar. In a glance, I can tell what states are where.

Its still early though. For all we know, the poor graphics designers are hard at work "fixing" the ugly.....

OK. Here's the problem as I see it, beyond the problems with CU. It seems to me the opinions of the CU split about 50/50. Half the people despise it (not dislike it...despise it) and the other half seem to love it. Right now, people have problems with the game but keep playing anyway. Many people have left yes, but how many people are planning on leaving after the CU? By the posts, apparently a lot. Many of you are saying, Great! We don't need you anyway! Already many of the galaxies are getting more and more sparse. What will happen to the economy when half of the population leaves? Will that many new people log on? willSOE be forced to merge the galaxies to keep population in line? I think this massive change will create a lot of turmoil in many of the galaxies.

It's another example of big corporate short-sightedness. If they were wise (which history shows they probably aren't) they could split the big CU into several smaller changes to the system. Once each change gets into the system, make sure it works right. Make sure people like it. Then move onto the next one. I think most people are complaining because there is a lot to complain about. If there is one thing to complain about, people will complain. Because of thelarge number of things being changed, people have a lot of potential complaints. The complainers all feed off of each other, andbefore you know it huge negativity. If they gradually made these changes, I don't think near as many people would complain or threaten to leave. They would probably just learn to deal with each one. But all at once....that's another story.

Having said that, this is a Massive Multi-Player game. Like it or not, we are dependent on a large population for the success of the game. Any change that effects the population effects the bottom dollar, which effects the future of the game. I just hope they're not shooting themselves in the foot with this.

Question!! Why make idle threats about leaving when the CU goes live(notice i didnt say IF i said WHEN) I mean no offense but there is not anything you can do about it as of may 5th where gonna have a new game loony toons and new HAM system and all that good or bad stuff!! take comfort SOE is in business and it might be like when Coke tried to shove New Coke down our throats( for you old enough to remember) if they dont make money well then they have a problem but you cant just leave theses type of games the same and let them die a slow death so yeah theres got to be some drastic changes from time time and its gonna freak out some people but its the risk ya must take and you just cant make everyone happy all the time so instead of freakin out and telling all of us that your gonna leave doesnt help anyone.

The problem with democracy is that it gives the illusion your opinion matters in everything thats why you should all be imps!!!!!

But SOE isnt a democracy all they care about is monthly subscription's and keeping them as long as they can and for the most part if the game doesnt change with all the new MMOG's on the way like star trek and guildwars ect the game will die anyway so instead of saying BAH!!!! you should say CHEERS to the dev team for even having theB#LL's to attempt some drastic changes to keep the game fun and fresh i dont know too many dev team's that would take a somewhat popular game thats pretty good as is and change it all up like this so YOU Have fun and keep paying that bill instead of riding it out and fade away!! so we should all feel pretty good that the dev team has somebig B#LL's and willing to takea risk of killing the game trying to make it better and i dont know about you but i have to at leastrespect it!!!

there are only 3 things that i do not like about the CU.
1. the cartoon like new icons.
2. the new keyboard controls for movement.
3. they set a date to release the Cu even though they said that they wouldn't until they were completely sure it was complete.
Other then those thing i like that changes for the most part. But then again my limited test of it might have changed my mind untell i saw a person 8 levels above the creatures AFK macro grinding like it is now. Over all i like the changes since i like grouping alot and soloing stuff is cool but i like the challange the new system will put into effect when it comes out. Sure i have thought about quiting the game, but why this game has become a home away from home for alot of us.

I love how people cry wolf before doing more than testing out the basics of the change. You haven't even seen the advanced professions, nor all of the CU changes and already you whine and moan and complain....

If you are going to leave, leave. Don't threaten, because it just makes you look like a petulant child throwing a tantrum. Just take your money and go...

For every whine I see here, I hear people in fan chatrooms talking about coming back now that the game is worthwhile again. Fun is not "get armor, get buffed, spam special attack", at least not for me. Fun is not /afk grinding, nor is it throwing endless grenades at something over and over. People are whinning about creatures on planets other than Tatooine, even though the Dev's said not to go elsewhere because the creatures aren't balanced there yet...

People are whinning about sound and graphics at a point that they are still tweaking out the basics...

You folks need to do a Beta test or two just to see how things are done, because you obviously have no concept of how major changes are done. The cosmetic work is the LAST thing finished, the polishing so to speak.

Just because some game mechanics and systems may mirror other MMPORPG's doesn't make this "not Star Wars" for crying out loud. EQ2 is EQ2, and SWG is SWG, and even if the combat systems are exactly the same, the games themselves are different. The current combat system sucks. The new CU combat system is how the game should have originally been, and so we get the change.

And Jedi are NOT the core of SWG. Jedi shouldn't even be allowed to be played IMO, because during the timeframe of this game, there were 4! Not 30 waving blades around in Coronet, 4 total. 3 Masters, and one noob who knows just enough to hit a small target in a small fighter and destroy a huge battle station....

KOTOR is set in the "OLD REPUBLIC" and this game isn't. Jedi populations need controlled because they are destroying any hint at continuity.

the damage has been done, they cant just start thinning the jedi population, perma-death would be a way, but I'm guessing, SOE is afraid that if they bring that back, boom, they lose all their jedi that have 1987324901 accounts and lose $$$$, not all, but I believe most would. Theres nothing that can be done about it now, I am sick and tired of people bitching and moaning that, oh, theres so many jedi around, they ruin the timeline, well, THERES NOTHING THAT THE DEVS CAN DO! They can't just start cancelling accounts because not only is that a $$$ loss, but that would give them a bad reputation. Live with it, or leave. Simple as that.
