Thread: Grenade Nerf Coming?
HardwiredXMan wrote:
well I don't agree with a nerf in any shape form or fashion to nades....leave nades alone. Noone wanted them nerfed when we used them to grind out that combat line of elite professions a year ago....that's because only a few people was using them....they were cheap then too....could find a crate of nades for 5 -10k....now since the FS grind they're selling for like 100k + per crate...absolutely ridiculous.....
I also don't agree with changing nades so that only commandos can use them....because a c12 grenade is the equivelant of a cdef pistol....and since all professions have their cdef equivelant.....c12's should be left alone.
Then there's the matter of changing the xp granted to heavy weapons xp.....wrong again.....first of all, grenades are not heavy weapons. Second, changing the xp type would just have people mastering commando ina matter ofhours since you can make 75k combat xp per mission on dath.....if it were changed to HW xp....then that's 900k HW xp in aboutan hour from one buff session (that's 1 branch per hour because you can easily cap 2 - 3 times in one buff session)....if this were to happen, everyone would be crying nerf commando nadesagain. It's time to stop using the nerf like it's an instant fix to everything.
Now if the devs are gonna nerf nades....then they should wait until CU...damage is already done now.....why change it now...it only makes it unfair for those still in the middle of grinding with nades while those who are finished with the village benefit from it and don't need it anymore. Last time I checked we all pay the same price to play this game.....If joe blow was allowed to do his FS grind to padawan using nades...then everyone else damn sure better be allowed the same if they choose to do so.
Using them doesn't unbalance the game. They don't affect any other players. The only thing they affect is the population of jedi.....but then BH missions, death penalities and the FRS should keep that under control....everyone will have a jedi, but not everyone will stick with jedi after all this....it's a heck of a lot more work being a jedi then it is to grind FS xp ordo anything else in this game...There really isn't a reward or an unbalancing issuefor grinding fs xp faster with nades....so I don't see the point in bothering making changes.
For one thing, they have become a valuable commoditiy....WS now sell them and probably make more money from them then they do normal weapons....and buying them is surely breaking a lot of players bank accounts.......if you weren't one of the lucky ones like me and had a lot of grenades saved up from when they were cheap, then your probably paying millions to grind FS xp....then you will pay millions more to survive as a jedi.
Honestly, I don't see any benefit to nerfing grenades at all....if the devs do, then it will only make the community upset and it won't be fair to the players.....afterall, changing the way jedi are attained wasn't exactly fair either...but people payed for the change and now nerfing grenades again will make a lot more people pay......for example, a player has bought 20 crates of nades and spent millions....the devs nerf them so they can't be used for what people are using them for...grenades are now worthless....money gone...player upset....player quits because he/she only had to grind with nades for another week to get to padawan....now it's gonna take another 6 months after already waiting 12, 13, 14, 15+ months.....now players will be thinking when they finally get close again, will the devs change something to add another 6 months to their goals......this is what's making people upset....you take the million dollars out, hand it to us, we get ready to sign the papers and you say....OOOPS! we gave you too much.....take back 999 thousand and say here, a thousand sounds about right!
It's too late....many many people have spent millions on nades already....change it now and it will create a massive migration of people going to other MMORPG's. Why? another change that affects players ability to get jedi is like raising the bar right when a player is about to complete their goal......"oh your only 100k away from being a jedi"....nerfed the nades...."now you have to grind another eternity......sorry for the player, smiling faces for the devs (because it means more money by extending the game).
I am against this change if the rumor is true.....first of all, I took my time during the hologrinding phase....I didn't want to constantly change professions to things I don't enjoy doing to get a jedi....then with the village, I saw I can stay with what I love to do (combat) and become a jedi....still I didn't rush to do it.....I'm still enjoying the game and all aspects of it....I actually finished the village in phase 3.....could have had my jedi before phase 4 went live...but no, I wanted to enjoy JTL and everything else......all the while, knowing that I can go grind out FS xp and get my long awaited jedi just like hundreds of others before me using the same methods they used.....heck I learned those methods from them.....
Now for the devs to change all of that, means I have to change my way of thinking when trying to acheive anything in this game....because of fear of the big fat nerf bat...I have to do everything as fast as possible because I fear the devs will make my gaming experiencelonger, boring and more drawn out with there never ending "we need to extend the game" changes. The true star wars fans like myself will always be here....the others will not.....when the devs understand that we will continue to play this game as long as we feel we can do things in a reasonable amount of time, have fun and they keep adding "NEW" things (not nerfing old things)....then the less they will need to nerf things to make things last and the more time they will have to thoroughly test new things before putting them in the game and realizing later that it will or has broken something else in the game....ultimately it's just not fun to have to grind and when that's done, grind again and again.....see when certain aspecets of the game are not a problem and everyone is happy with certain aspects of the game....the devs see our smiling faces and wipe it away with a smack to the face! Then when you ask why, it's because of game balance they say....well I dont' see game balance, I see promises made that take forever to see any results....then once we start seeing results, its time for another change....when will it end....can we log on to the game and actually play without fearing that what takes us a 5 hours to do today will get nerfed and take us 5 months in the future.....
I dont' know about anyone else...but I'm tired of nerfs...especially when it's something that all the players can benefit from andactaully like and enjoy.
Forget nerfing nades for now....work on JTL issues, the CU and how it will most likely break JTL and the current ground game.....what about the bugs that have been around since SWG Beta.....How about working on the GCW, better database management (stacking same type items regardless of serial number).....oh it's so much wrong, it hurts my head.
Hmm! now I gotta go finish off my FS grinding with nades before I'm SOL...."puts JTL down and pulls out the dusty VK's, put on armor, swallow some food, runs outside and starts yelling......LOOKING FOR A SOLO GROUP! INVITE PLZ....." Sheesh! Don't the devs know they force us to do the things we do that they claim is unbalancing?
bye bye...don't let the door slam your arse on the way out...... and lastly, can i have your stuff?

ROFL, if anything, this laststatement by you, takes me back to my first comment.I certainlyhope you are going dark jedi, because with this attitude, you are mostdefinitely aSHAME to theLight.
oh please... after all that all you have is a lame insult....
First off... you are not saying that grenades are illegal... right... but by your comment you are insinuating that I am or would do something illegal... which is not true... using granades as a way to get extra exp is not wrong or illegal... so why would you draw any conclusion that I would do something like use "fight clubs"....
i'm insinuating that you would take the quickest route possible to obtain your glow stick. its as simple as that. I would wager that prior to "being" commando, you were a TKM/master swords?
Second... I think you misunderstand me... I am not another "uber leet dude" that is out to get a Jedi just for the purpose of being so cool and showing off to my friends.... I plan to actually role play my Jedi... to hide in the shadows... to actually act like a Jedi in this time period would...as most people knoweven in EU there are very few Jedi duing this time... (plenty of FS people but not Jedi)
ahhh... role play, I see you are getting an early start by role playing a grenade lobbing jedi.....hmmmm....contradiction?
Third... your question is pointless... no there is no other profession that happens with.... there is also no other profession that gets a conversion that good.... the exp gained off grenades is great... and I see no reason why it should be nerfed.... it actually helps the economy because people have to buy them....
yes, and plenty of people buy buffs as well, and also foods, unfortunatley this money only "circulates". If you know anything about the economy of SWG, you would also know that there is TOO much money entering the system via solo groups, and not enough money permanently exitiing (or burning) the system (thus the solo group payout nerfs). This does NOT help the system, like you incorrectly state.
Another point you should keep in mind is people wouldn't do things like a "fight club" or things like that if the devs had developed a better system.... ask the current Jedi how they feel about the FRS... it's better now... but still not right....

I haven't heard anything either...the Devs haven't even brought it up (and they'd likely let me know ahead of time)...
A NERF may happen down the road although I hope it doesn't for multiple reasons (including the fact that Commandos need the extra Combat XP boost since we cost 15K more Combat XP vs. any other profession out there from Novice Beginer to Master Elite/Hybrid as well as the fact that we are capp'd at 3.5K per kill using our Heavy weapons...most other elite combat professions are capp'd at 5K per kill).
If a NERF is coming I expect it to come as one of the following:
- Grenade XP converted from Combat to Heavy Weapon.
- Grenade XP reduced in amount given.
- FS Exchanged rate for Combat XP reduced to be equal to regular XP Exchange rate.
Of those options I'd support #3 more then the others...NERF'ing the exchange rate puts ALL professions in the same boat, while NERF'ing 1 or 2 hurts Commandos specifically while taking away "an advantage" to others who are just "Temporary Commandos" just stoping by to use our Grenades. If they reduce the amount of Combat XP given or the type of XP given by our Grenades then they'll need to (1) remove our Heavy Weapon XP cap and (2) reduce the amount of Combat XP required to be a Commando by at least 15K.
Just my 2 cents on the topic...To be honest, I doubt the devs will make any NERF unless people are making too big a deal out of it or making it to obvious...

Interesting coming from a commando corr. So you would rather penalize the rest of the professions, rather than move anything in teh commando profession? Hmm...if your only problem in the commando tree grind, is that you need an acheive an extra 15k of combat xp than anyone else, then the most simple solution would be to raise the MAX xp per kill from 3.5k to 5K and bring it inline with the rest of the professions? Would that extra 150 combat xp really help the situation for aspiring master commandos? but to say that a weapon can generate exclusively combat xp, is not right, especially in the numbers that are in line with normal weapons. There is a reason that combat xp is intended to be 10% of your primary weapon in that it can be used as a common denominator when identifying all weapon types across th board. are you telling me that combat xp was MEANT to be a primary experience point generator? And if so, then how come it is not inline with others like the DOTS, which are so much less, but are also giving combat xp as a primary experience points.

Interesting coming from a commando corr. So you would rather penalize the rest of the professions, rather than move anything in teh commando profession?
Ummm...yes...of course...would you rather hurt one profession to make everything even more unequal in this game...I've always been in favor of ALL professions being on equal ground, so I'd rather not see any profession "take one for the team"...
Hmm...if your only problem in the commando tree grind, is that you need an acheive an extra 15k of combat xp than anyone else, then the most simple solution would be to raise the MAX xp per kill from 3.5k to 5K and bring it inline with the rest of the professions?
No...that isn't the only problem...it's a big issue...but not the only one...Considering that even raising the cap from 3.5 to 5K still leaves commandos as the slowest profession out there when it comes to speed which in turn would mean we'd still earn Combat XP at the slowest rate of any profession, hence a reason why we have an ability to earn Combat XP on a larger scale...
Would that extra 150 combat xp really help the situation for aspiring master commandos? but to say that a weapon can generate exclusively combat xp, is not right, especially in the numbers that are in line with normal weapons.
Well, looking at the fact that Grenades have typically a 9 second delay...poor Accuracy...can damage the user (only thrown weapon in the game that does that)...terrible speed...follows the target...comes in stacks of 5...and has over balanced HAM costs...I'd say the fact that they can generate exclusively combat XP is well earned...Like others have said, fix them first, then we'll talk about taking away their one plus...
Commandos were set up to have a tough grind...They were assigned more Combat XP costs then other professions...to compensate they were given the ability to gain Combat XP at a faster rate...by the time someone master Commando, they, on average, have just enough pts to Master one other profession...many Commandos instead just dabble parts of other professions and having that "combat xp boost" helps get that xp needed...
Besides...how do you know that the Devs didn't plan the FS Exchange rate around the idea that it might encourage more folks to try out being a Commando? and beyond that...How do you know it isn't already being addressed via the Combat Ugprade...
Basically what you are really saying without realizing it is "Let's go ahead and gimp a profession further, taking it from being the leader in Combat XP generating, but one of the regular XP generating and take away that plus ability"...That would just leave Commandos with a sub par XP generating abilty...
Heres and idea that might work....Make a valid proposal thatI can take the the Devs...instead of just saying "Change Combat XP toHeavy Weapon XP for grenades" expand on that with how you are going to make that work for Commandos including raising the 3.5K cap to 5K, adding +20 to +30 FlameThrower Speed to the Commando Profession (Master Box has been Suggested), reduce the Combat XP requirement down 15K, and so on (that should help you get started)...All of that, plus a bit more, would help bring Commandos more on track to being able to earn XP at the same rate of other professions (the speed boost brings our DPS closer to that of other Ranged Professions)...
The Devs could make all those changes to Commandos to "fix things" and bring us more in line so we don't have to a need for the Combat XP via our Grenades...OR...they could just make a "simple" fix to the FS Exchange Rate system and "fix" things for ALL PROFESSIONS including Commandos....Which do you think, especially with tons of balances coming via the CU, they'd be more likely to make?

all very good points and might get me thinking....but i would like to address this issue for the time being because it is the most relevant. accuracy is only if you target an individual. In the case of FS grinding,a loophole has been found in which you target the nest. in this case b/c the nest is static and does not move, your hit rate is 100%. PUPd and sliced , high end nades are pretty effective. Im sure you would have to agree with me that something is wrong here...
or simply in the next upgrade, make the hit ratio on the static nests more in line with the ratios that are realistic when you are targeting individual NPCs. I believe this solution would solve every issue that is outstanding and make everyone's lives better. Nothing needs to be changed on either max damage caps for NPC kills, combat xp can be retained by grenades, and grenades will no longer have the issues we have today. In close a hit ratio of 100% on anything especially from grenades just does not make sense.

Nobody ever said it was a good thing the way they are being used...but NERF'ing them in anyway will be basically hurting Commandos in order to make Jedi players "feel" better...The system isn't broken, it's just creating an "annoyance"...so itdoesn't feel acceptable to me to fix an annoyance by hurting a profession...Commandos have plenty of reasons why NERF'ing grenades would hurt them...but what is the real issue against fast Combat XP gaining...yes, it doesn't feel like it makes the FS grind "fair", but in the end, that comes down to personal opinion...and I'd rather wait until the Devs have time to focus on fixes for our Grenade system then just NERF them in the mean time because of a groups "personal opinion"...
As others have said...if Grenades were taken away, folks would just find some other way to work the system to their advantage...

Uhm, I'm not going anywhere......I'm a star wars fan.....I'm here to stay....point of my whole post was it's simply not fair to many players...powergamers and casual alike....when you have hundreds of jedi now that used nades to grind you should make those that use it too pay a lengthy price (those that decided to take their time using the nade grind)......everyone who's dedicated to being a jedi will be one soon enough....so what's the whole point of trying to slow it down....It's gated for one. Second, those who find the nade grind boring or hate it but do it because it's faster will most likely not want to stick with the jedi grind......
Anyway, there's just something about being so close to being a jedi after 15 months of playing that makes you want to "just get to jedi status"....who cares about the jedi grind....I won't be trying to grind jedi like I'm trying to grind FS xp anyway......far as I'm concerned, I hate the whole FS xp system.....but that's my belief and opinion.....too bad I took 2 weeks off to enjoy JTL or I'd be a jedi by now and this nade nerf wouldn't concern me one bit.....well, maybe a little.....I still believe in being fair to all players.....I just want one good reason why the devs "Need", not want, but "Need" to nerf grenades....how does it hurt the game? If the devs and anyone else who plays this game feel that nades need to be changing before the CU for whatever reason, then why not change buffs and armor before the CU since they have a much bigger impact on everything....for one, we wouldn't be able to stand in the middle of lairs and just toss nades all day if buffs and armor were nerfed now.....This is the fairness I'm talking about.....don't nerf nades and mission payouts but then you leave the very thing in the game that allows you to both use nades easily and make money easily (armor and buffs). Honestly, I'm tired of the devs F'ing with all these little details right now....we know the CU is coming...put your time into getting that right and leave the game alone until then.....I'm not going anywhere and those that are dedicated and still enjoy this game are not going anywhere.....Now for the newbie's, it's a whole different story because they never knew the days of last year and so they won't feel the impact that the veterans will.
Anyway, even if there is a nade nerf, it won't happen until next year.....last update/fix for this year is 11.5.....so get your nade grinding in throughout the holiday's people.
Personally, I want all my xp grinding done as soon as I can because once I have my jedi and my second character has their templete complete....I'll never grind xp again, unless they devs force me too and I really mean force me too....like needing xp to gain entrance to a special POI or new instanced dungeon or some crap like that....I have a plan set for my characters and I don't want to spend another year getting them to that point.
NO YOU CAN'T HAVE MY STUFF....I"ve got about 750 items anyway, you couldn't possibly have room for it all.....HEHEHE!
and to the person that said they grinded 7.2 million FS xp.....please don't fib...if you had free unlocks, you did not grind 7 million FS xp....now I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you could have grinded all that xp (with nounlocks)and still have this phase (phase 1) and the next phase (phase 2) to unlock your last two slots....but I doubt you've done that.....but since you say you didn't use any nades....then you must be a powergamer playing 15 hours a day to get 7.2 million xp in 4 phases....so in this situation, you are really not the norm and can't use your experience as a bases for any part of the nade nerfing debate.
by the way, I am a commando (was the profession I wanted to be from the start of this game...I just waited until the past 3 months to become one
)

Light Jedi should gain FRS points by doing peaceful tings... not fighting.... This system still needs major work... the Jedi that did the "fight clubs" were simply trying to work around a really poor system so they could do what they wanted to do....
