Thread: Constructive criticism on the FS system and ideas to fix it.
I said it was a deterrent. I never said it was an effective one.
That said, go look around the Jedi and FS boards, and note all the people whining about how long the grind is, or how boring it is, and why can't they please just be a jedi a couple days after they get their badges (which they can get within days of starting) and how it's just so unfair/unbalanced that the sith outlaws are level 70+ and how all the missions are too tough and....
Sounds like it's working a little, anyway, by weeding out at least a few people.

Ah another of the many problems. If you look at those numbers, the growing jedi population tells you one thing. Nobody gives a D@MN about the timeline right now because people want to be jedi IN THIS GAME, not Jedi Academy, Not KOTOR, THIS GAME! And none of the people playing Jedi Characters (which as was noted, are becomeing a large percentage of the game's population)want to hear that they cant be Jedi because the devs made a bad choice with this timeline. I will say it again PEOPLE WANT TO BE JEDI IN SWG! I dont give a crap if getting initiate takes 2 years from getting novice FS. What the heck, make it 3 years! I dont care. The whole problem is grinding ruins games. They can make a whole wookie planet filled with stories and quests yet they are too lazy to make the Jedi system a quest based endevor. Read my fricken posts, all you people that say I am complaining about how long it takes ought to be lined up and stooge-slapped. I WANT IT TO TAKE LONG! I WANTED IT TO TAKE LONG SINCE BEFORE THE GAME HIT THE SHELVES! I AM JUST SAYING THAT THE GRIND WAS A POOR, LAZY @$$, SORRY EXCUSE FOR A SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN PROOF TIME AND AGAIN HOW UNWILLING THE DEVS ARE TO DO ANY REAL WORK! END OF MOTHERF**KING DISCUSSION!
WILL A MOD PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD, I AM THE THREAD CREATOR AND I WANT IT LOCKED PLEASE!

Two things.
1) If you think you can do so much better, then submit your app to SOE - they're always looking for skilled new developers, and as you're obviously such an expert at game design, I'm sure you can get this game turned around and everyone happy in no time.
2) Calling for a thread to be locked simply because people disagree with you, you don't get choruses of 'you're a genious', or because it took a slight turn is juvenile in the extreme. Instead of crying to a moderator, how about trying to continue the discussion, perhaps by posting suggestions rather than crying "OMGTHEGRINDISTOOBORINGWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"
3) The grind is only boring if you let it be. As I state earlier, even a reasonably casual player can unlock a branch in one evening's play, then make the necessary xp to fill the branch within 3 weeks. With the phases on a 3 week cycle, there's no point in rushing when you'll just have to wait for unlock. Hell, I unlocked 3 weeks ago, got my three free unlocks (I'm a returned holo-grinder), then went back to playing like I normally do, with over half my time dedicated to my WS alt. I filled the phase 1 branch about a week before phase 2 started, and yesterday I unlocked my phase 2 branch, then promptly gained 3 boxes in melee speed. All this done getting 2 hours' play time TOPS on Darrke most days. So in a nutshell - grinding FS when it's not actually required is just stupid, and if it sucks the fun out of your game, you have no one to blame but yourself. It's not required to finish FS.
"that guy is luckey to not get shot for saying 10k credit cap for jedi, u can buy what with ten k now a-days? a noob sword? crystals cost like hafl a mill swg would loose like all its jedi customers it would ruin the game"
This proves that people did not read my posts entirely, and are just reading the reactions of the other idiots that didnt bother reading my posts.
Lets go down that list I just gave of ill-informed retorts.
Its not too long. The process of going from novice FS to Jedi and from Jedi Initiate to Jedi knight and then master shoult take LONG AS HELL! Making it achievable in a few weeks is crazy cause the Jedi already outnumber non jedi on many servers.
MY CONCEPT IS AN EXTREMELY LONG DIFFICULT THEMEPARK TYPE SYSTEM. MAKE BECOMING A JEDI A QUEST WITH COUNTLESS SUBQUESTS. READ MY EARLY POSTS FOR MORE DETAILS.
Go play Jedi Academy? HA! I have it. Beat it more times than I can count. THE GAME SUCKS PEOPLE! It was good in the beginning when it was all new and people were drooling over all the new features. But now the novelty has worn off, and Jedi Academy just isnt what I (or many other people considering the SWG Jedi population) want. And dont give me the crap about how its expandable through mods. I know, I MAKE MODS FOR JEDI ACADEMY, As a matter of fact I just released the highest detail Obi Wan RotS saber ever made for Jedi Academy and its getting great reviews. But I dont play the game if I can help it. And dont start about KotOR 1 and 2. I beat both of them numerous times as well. Great games (except for that lackluster ending to Sith Lords, Lucasarts rushed it before it was done)But again, its not what we are looking for. The whole failing with OTHER Jedi games is THAT THEY END! They are entirely too linear in spite of thier "non-linear" gameplay, you still follow a set story and path, and the game still ends when you complete the objectives.
People want to be Jedi in a persistant, completely nonlinear world where they can interact with friends and npcs, create lives for thier characters and just go about thier business, make thier own choices and thier own story. We had SWG sold to us with the promise that we could be Jedi. SoE are lying hypocrits to make Jedi a selling point then tell us they dont want us to have it. Moving along...
Becoming a jedi is not hard and I never said it was. It is supposed to be hard, I want it to be hard.
remember Qui Gon's words: "Training to become a Jedi is not an easy challenge. And even if you succeed, Its a hard life" Lets face it. If it were too hard, we wouldnt have the jedi population problem. While horribly boring, the grind is not hard. Moving on...
THe grind is NOT a means to discourage people from becoming Jedi. For one thing, that would be bad for business since as I said before, This game was advertised and released with selling point that you could become a Jedi. Not a good idea to even attempt to stop jedi hopefulls at every turn.
Besides, how is it detering anyone? As we all know there are more and more jedi every day, They are powergrinding through thier FS branches at break-neck speed. Even the 3 week phase delay doesnt help much.
The fact that the ENTIRE village theme and all the grinding has NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH JEDI OR STAR WARS is a completely different thread in itself.
And I am lucky not to get shot eh? Your lucky not to get shot for not reading my posts and implying that I should be shot. The proposed Jedi Credit Cap operates under the guideline that things needed for Jedi would cost less. If a Jedi NEEDS a crystal, it would cost less, or he could get off his lazy ass and get it the same way the seller got it. You people want to deter people from getting Jedi? A credit cap will certainly do it. You want to keep to this stupid timeline that in itself was a poor decision by Lucasarts and SoE, while keeping the ability to break that timeline by becoming a Jedi? You want to be true to the Jedi of the films? Well guess what. THE JEDI WERE BROKE! They were not permitted to have large ammounts of money for thier personal use. Only enough money to aquire tings they NEEDED. Personal posessions and attachments were frowned on in the Jedi Order. A credit cap would be perfectly reasonable. If you choose the life of a jedi, you choose to accept the good with the bad. The power and the limitations. And before you start, dont give me the "Dooku was wealthy" line, because when Dooku was wealthy, HE WASNT A JEDI ANYMORE! And when he WAS a Jedi, HE TOO WAS BROKE! AGAIN ACTUALLY READ MY POSTS AND YOU WONT SOUND LIKE SUCH MORONS WHEN YOU ANSWER THEM!
Now, there is nothing left worth saying. The entire point of this thread has been lost and has become nothing more that a battlefield on which to fight over ignorant responses to CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTIONS to save the game all of us are PAYING OUR HARD EARNED CASH TO PLAY! So clearly the thread is no longer worth keeping open since it can no longer serve the purpose it was created for. So I ask again, PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD!

Internet newbie aren't you? Threads almost never remain on the narrow, precise track certain...individuals...desire, just like real-life conversations also tend not to. You need to grow up and realize that. Crying that the thread got derailed and needs to be locked because the contributors went off in a different direction is petty, juvenile, indicative of inflexibility, and will typically be totally ignored by moderators anywhere. At most, they'll laugh at your request and then ignore it
Just because YOU don't believe they put the time sink aspects in as a deterrent doesn't make it the truth. The point you're totally ignoring is that the 'endless grind', as you put it, isn't a grind at all UNLESS YOU MAKE IT SO. You can play your normal style and get all the xp you need to fill the tree in under three weeks.
OK I re-read the original post and I can understand why people feel this is a rant. The introduction is pretty much all "i don't like this . . i don't like that". You make some good points IMO in regard to the Sith shadow levels but to be honest, thats all the merit I can see.
You mention that you want it to be like a "THEMPARK" but nowhere in your original post does it say anything about one. What it says is . . .
If we have to wait, and grind all the time then at least make the process more enjoyable and involving. Develop an unfolding, interactive story driven quest that will allow you to grind out Force Sensitive XP.
there is an unfolding interactive story . . . the village phases. each phase the village gets a little better and the story updates. If you want a themepark, you need to adress what kinds of missions and story to be in this. You seem very passionate about this topic but you really don't give the developers anything to work with. Saying you want a themepark stems the questions . . .what kind? . . . how many missions? . . . how many should be combat? . . . etc etc.
The thread seems to press alot of "whats wrong" and not enough "how about changing the system to this . . . and for these reasons"There are alot of great ideas out there . . . most however arenot complete and give the devs nothing towork with.
Don't get mad that others aren't reading your post . . . many are but they may not understand what you're vision is because you don't really explain it.
I have some questions for the author of this thread...
What is your toon's template and combat level?
Because to solo the village you should be prepared for a good amount of combat and should have a CL in at least the mid 70's
Do you belong to a guild?
I'm currently in a guild and there are 5-6 of us working toward becoming Jedi so there is always someone around to help out on one of the village quests, or to go grinding with. Last night we went hunting for Kryats, Nightsisters, we took out the spider at the bottom of the spider cave, we killed Necrosis, and we blew up the Avatar Space Station.
How long have you been playingSWG?
Learning the best way to play your character takes time. Also there's alot of content that you can go through to pass the time when you're bored of grinding. Has anyone here done the Gungan themepark, or the Nightsister themepark, or the missions to get the shellfish harvesting tool?
In your origional post you refered to a difficult quest or something of that nature, can you be more specific as to what quest this is?
One thing that you know but don't seem to understand is that the developers don't work hard at adding content, you don't know this and it seems that it boggles your mind. For more information on this please see my post about lazy Americans.
I apologize for flaming you, I didn't mean to point it directly at you, just all of the people that want something worthwhile and not working for it.
