Yeah, they are going to be the same level. Just do what your brother was doing and be in a group all the time. If your out by yourself and they come RUN! they will come back. Just be in a hunting group or something and when they come you have a whole bunch of buddies that will help take them out for you. Just make sure you tell everyone not to loot them.
