Thread: is anyoen else goona cry in EP3?

If they ever did make another Star Wars movie, I hope it’s in the past not after EP6. I would much rather see a movie about the origins f the Sith/first fallen Jedi then the rebuilding of the Jedi Academy by Luke. Plus there is so much potential there, a story about Exar Kun or Freedom Nadd or any of the other original Sith Lords.

EP1 wasn't rushed and that isn't why it was a bad movie. You need to put the movie into context with it's time. A movie studio called Pixar just came out with a movie called Toy Story. It was huge, huger than any resent animation movie. It was all CG and hade cute CG characters. GL wanted to tap into the Pixar audiance, so came Jar Jar - Roger Rabbitsilligetimate child. GL wanted to reach an audiance he simply was not in touch with and alienated the audiance he was in touch with. In short, he sold out. His legancy will be how much money his movies made, the usual test of how good a movie is. So he was trying to make the best movie possible, ie make the most money, ie he sold out in a bad way.


Now it sounds like he wants to tap into the Titanic audiance. Again he isn't in touch with the teenage girl audiance and this movie won't be appealing to them. The main star wars audiance was not the Titanic audiance, same problem as in EP1. I think EP3 will be very beautiful. I think the action will be nothing less than top notch. No one directs special effects and action better than GL. I also think the story will be weak and under developed. The acting will be sub-par. GL has shown so far he isn't good at writing a strong story nor getting the most out of his actors. He has his strengths but also weaknesses. The original movies worked so well because there wasn't much of a story to tell. Theywerewar movies. The prequels are a political drama that fails to develop because the characters in the story are too busy trying to be in a war movie. The story is weak, the acting is weak, the effects and action are excellent.


Unfortunetly it is all about the story and that is how one truely gages how good a movie is.

You are actually right there. Unfortunately, while SW paved the way for movies like the Matrix and LOTR, it turned Hollywood onto the idea of Blockbusters.


If you have IFC, keep an eye out for the Dinner for 5 episode with Carrie Fischer on it, she talks a little about the downside to the effects Star Wars has had. (Funny quote about the fact that the SW actors signed away royalites on thier images for action figures/video games/etc:: "I think I owe George Lucas 2 dollars everytime I look in the mirror.") Now everybody wants to make SW all the time and most of the movies end up like crap (Battlefield Earth, anyone.)


t's too bad that people forget that Lucas was a fairly successful filmmaker pre-Star Wars (American Graffiitti is a great movie and if you haven't seen it, go rent it. THX-1138 was a little ahead of it's time but it's excellent as well) and we always see him as the Star Wars guy. The fact is, he was a very good filmaker who dreamed up this great story based on the world around him and then added his imagination to the imagination of writers before him. I just think it's sad that Hollywood saw an excellent series like Star Wars and saw only $ signs. Now they assume that we will jump on the band wagon behind any cheap imitation that they throw at us.


I will be sorry to see the SW films come to a close, because it will probably be the last good movie of its type for a long time. I would love it if the rumors about a TV series are true...

ROTS is gonna rock everyones socks, and i think it will be very emotional for everyone who grew up loving the old movies, and even watching the new ones that we don't like as much. the new TV series could be interesting, but I'd rather see mr. lucas hand it off to some one, and see a whole new trilogy set maybe during KOTOR times, or get the jacen, jaina, and anakin solo into a movie, so that future generations will have star wars characters to love.

Hiya all,


Just a bit of info. As I am a member of the 501st Legion, I just worked a gig at the ShoWest Convention in Vegas. Mr. Lucas was there to recieve an award. During the morning show he discussed EP3 and stated "This one's a little bit more emotional. We like to describe it as 'Titanic' in space. It's a tearjerker."



He showed the trailer then teased that he brought the whole film, but joked that ShoWest had a fit so he would show part of it, He showed the first 6-10 minutes of the movie! Afterwards he came back to our greenroom and recieved an honorary membership into the 501st, took pics, and even granted usa few autographs. A very exciting day.


Later at the evening session another anouncement was made regarding the movies, 3-D!!!!!

Lucas adds 'Star' power to 3-D campaign

LAS VEGAS -- George Lucas is such a fan of the latest 3-D technology
that he is planning to remaster all of the "Star Wars" films for
rerelease in 3-D. Appearing as part of a sextet of high-profile
directors promoting 3-D and digital cinema at ShoWest on Thursday,
Lucas said he hadn't yet committed to a precise schedule but hoped to
have the first film ready for the 30th anniversary of the
original "Star Wars" movie in 2007 and that he would then rerelease
one "Star Wars" film per year in 3-D. Lucas was joined by James
Cameron, Robert Zemeckis, Robert Rodriguez and Randal Kleiser. Peter
Jackson joined the group via a pretaped 3-D segment.



So dont fret. Starwars still has a lengthy future!!!!!
