m8 u must have known the grind would be a killer lmao - why wouldn't be
I dont know if this was directed at me, or the original poster, but I knew it would kill the game. Thats why I avoided it for the past 16 months. But after doing all that I care to do and with the little content this game has, I felt that I either go Jedi or be left out. There is not much to do in this game, they added this village and almost everyone does it. My whole guild grinds constantly although they do set up some guild hunts. But it was a combination of the grind, and WoW beta that killed it for me, and frankly WoW is really fun and should be a nice break from this game. If I get tired of that, I might come back, but I still like to chat on the forums so I will continue to post.

The real problem is that grinding itself is bad for the game. People do not interact with each other if they are trying to achieve the
"end game" content. The system isn't really that much different than going through the professions. The quests to unlock the FS branches are ok. The only problem is in order to move forward you have to grind xp. Lets say that after the FS unlocking quest you had to do FS missions or quests to gain FS Skill, then it might be a little more interesting. But to use regular XP and convert it is boring. All it does it force people into old hologrinding techinques to finish professions, except now its for converted XP. So instead of people blowing through professions, they are keeping one profession and doing mindless missions. Great SWG community! Pretty freakin sad if you ask me.
Exactly...I hate to bring up a sore topic here in the SWG forums, but....WoW. I played the beta for this and you can go out and just grind creatures all day to level, but this is just one way to do it and it is not the quickest way (that I found out as of now....only obtained level 14). A good number of NPC's in all towns give missions, and what do these missions give? money, sometimes items, and of course XP. SWG should learn from this. If I do a mission from Guy A, I get say 100 XP and 1 silver piece. I come back and have the option of continuing with this guy and continue the mission as a whole. I complete again, I get 300 XP and 2 silver pieces and the choice of gloves or a Sword. I decide to continue with him and after the third mission I get 500 XP, 3 silver pieces and 50 copper, and the choice of a chest plate or a powerful hammer. Continue again I get 1000XP, 5 silver pieces, a choice between 6 different weapons, all of which are useful.
This is what SWG should do. Add in a bunch of quests in the village that will give you more and more XP as you continue with the same guy. Keep grinding in if you want so you have the CHOICE. You are not forced to just grind, but can grind, do missions or a little of both. I am glad I did the WoW beta, I learned from my second character that it is 10 times quicker and 1000 times funner to do missions. Not only does my bank account grow quite nicely, but the mission giver will give me a nice amount of items that I can use. I can get most of a suit of armor, I continue to get better weapons etc...And I get XP doing it. It feels great doing 5 missions for a guy, racking up near 3k XP and you only need 4500XP for the next level. I also will get this other 1500 by killing what he tells me to kill.
This system IS fun. If SWG added quests to the village that give XP and have a nice little story to them, it would be fun. Even place NPC's of each profession that give out missions and you can get XP, weapons etc...This would be step 1 to adding content. Have these quests change every phase, and have it set that you can do every one of these quests and rack up like half the XP needed to finish a full branch. This way you still need to work to get XP for half the branch, but at least the quests would add something different.
SWG should watch the MMO's coming out and take notes, rather than lose more customers. I left, but not forever, if this game becomes what it should be one day I will be back, but I follow content.
