Thread: CU going to nerf Grinding to jedi?

Yeah, I remember reading the exact same thing. As per the devs, the CU will definitely come out in conjunction with the expansion. I think it's important for their credibility that they not delay the CU until after the expansion. That would make 2 expansion hitting the shelves before the CU, which they have been promising for quite some time. It would paint them as money-hungry and in no way interested in the actual well-being of the game and happiness of their subscribers (more-so than is already the case).

k let's get this straight

May -> ROTW expansion
until then -> ROTW developpement/testing blah blah and maybe even a couple of patches here and there

May/June/july -> CU Alpha/Beta (at best) and correction patches

July/August for the best -> CU hits TC then Live (doubt there will be a TC phase tho)

now throw in that some people here and there might whine strong enough for this or that, so in between, throw a couple of more patches/revamps/brilliant ideas/whatsoever/jedi revamp

CU won't be here before next september (cause SOE guys might wanna take a summer break uh?) IMO.

Hate to burst everyones bubble, I know I read it somewhere that the two betas were going on at the same time, I can't find the post. But this is on the front page of the site...

"We will be making an announcement very soon about the upcoming Star Wars Galaxies expansion pack. As work has developed side by side with the Combat Upgrade and this to-be-announced expansion, we have decided to run one beta test for both products simultaneously.

We want to assure everyone that the Combat Upgrade will be a *free update* for the live service.

As a special thank you to our CU testers for your patience, you will automatically be included in the expansion portion of the beta test."

They are using the CU side of it as an added bit of incentive to get the expansion, it's not included they are just acting like it is since when you can use the expansion the new CU will be live as well. My bet is that the CU will be an update published when the downloaded version of the expansion is out and able to be downloaded.... so i'm gonna say it'll be live late april when the expansion is available for download.

Personnally i think that when they say the CU beta and TC will be side by side with the RotW expansion just means that they will be testing both at the same time, I dont think thats a huge garantee that the CU will come out at the same time as the Expansion, course i also think they are gonna rush out RotW and we are gonna get liek 2 hours of downloading and updating time for both the expansion and the CU

CU is out May 5th. Forgive me for not remembering where that bit of info is on the SOE website/forums. They said it is the 'set in stone' date so it will be updated before folks buy the new expansion. There you go, rushing the CU to the brink. Expect bugs and exploits for quite some time after that. Enjoy...

Technically they only "need" to beta test on TC to ensure live stability & iron out bugs, lag, crashes etc..

Logically the CU has already been tested because it is a "revamp"," You cannot create a "revamp" unless it is thoroughly tested "behind the scenes" by the devolopers and in house alpha testers in the first place. I believe the CU is ready to go full steam without a "typical" public alpha/beta test. They already know that the CU functions as intended (with or without bugs), they just need to test it live, hence the TC Beta coming soon.

No it's possible. You're just gona be looking at either the best on-the-go programing job ever that might turn this game around, or the most messed up pile of crap anyone has ever seen in the history of MMORPGs

I am worried that these changes will change my game and on top of that increase the difficulty of generating the FS XP and really without more information from the devlopers on these changes I think it's a justified worry.

Seems very unlikely that they would be able to roll out a well tested CU by the time RotW is released. So I expect CU to be after RotW.

I think they will just roll it out whatever state it is in so they can say they delivered it. This is how the entire history of the game has gone, and I see no indication that it will be different this time.

We all know that we end up being the testers and have to live with whatever negative affects we have on our characters. I have 500k more fs experience, and I will finish it and unlock, probably by Monday, then play my new Jedi a bit to enjoy the LS for a bit. I will then shelve her from the CU to 4-6 weeks after (or until the forums report most of the bugs are gone) and play my alt, so I can have fun, PvP, and hunt crystals/pearls and such.

I agree. They will launch the CU(which is more of a downgrade and revamp than an upgrade. Or a mega nerf to hit everything they've missed so far. I really hope they prove me wrong) whether it is fully ready or not. It's not a dev thing either. It's a reflection of corporate policies in general that affect all programming. Getting a product to market at 90% reliability is considered to be more profitable than doing it right. Corporations fix programs after they hit the market. It's been this way at least since the airlines hit the market with mileage points. And an airline CEO is the one that made that point quite explicitly to all of us in the tech side of the company back around 1990. So it's nothing new. You'd just think that a company that relies on subscriptions to their program would take a little more time to test. It's not like we're all going to quit because they wait longer to make it harder. We're more likely to leave because what we expect to take a year or two keeps getting harder as the resources we need to accomplish it get nerfed. I expected the full term from starting the game to finishing my padawan template to be 2 years once the solo nerf hit. But with the coming downgrade to armor, weapons, and professions, I'm hustling from master ranger(for fun) to commando 4xxx in order to stop "playing" the game so I can "grind" and make padawan before the combat nerf so I'll miss out on some of the disappointment of not having armor worth buying anymore.

The focus of game development since I joined 6 months ago seems to clearly be to make it take longer to accomplish things. Not to make people play together. Otherwise I would be able to loot ST's while grouped with ONE of my guildmates without having to use the radial to open a window. If it is harder to become a master of anything, or a jedi, it takes more of your time, and most importantly, your money, to get where you want to be. The bottom line is trying to keep people online longer. Unfortunately, most of us are addicted enough that we will stay just as long without all of the nerfs because we like the game and have lots of friends. So why bother turning happy players into irritated forum posts like this? Most of the regulars in my guild are wondering if they are still going to want to play after the big nerf. I'm sure we all will. But I doubt we'll enjoy it as much.

Nerf... y are you calling this a nerf? a Nerf to me is pointing out something that is not fair compaired to something else, and tune it down. If they touch everything in the revamp, it's not a nerf.

The focus of game development since I joined 6 months ago... so you never saw the uber BH- CH template... master BH running around with 2 tamed Rancors... now that needed a nerf like you say... seems to clearly be to make it take longer to accomplish things. Not to make people play together. Otherwise I would be able to loot ST's while grouped with ONE of my guildmates without having to use the radial to open a window. Unfortunately, most of us are addicted enough that we will stay just as long without all of the nerfs because we like the game .... yeah, the other day I spent 14 consecutives hours playing the game, when I logged out, the last thing I heard was this whoozing sound going wh00oo000oo000oo00... like an hypnotic thingy.. I'm sure we all get hypnothised when we play, and we keep coming back...and have lots of friends. So why bother turning happy players into irritated forum posts like this? Most of the regulars in my guild are wondering if they are still going to want to play after the big nerf.... again, this is NOT a nerf, since they change everythingI'm sure we all will. The CU is a combat nerf, plain and simple. Many players want to be forced into grouping and have begged for this for a long time. I don't agree with it, but the nerf criers will have their demands met.
