Yes, there is. You can read about this rumor on these forums in the last couple threads that tried to spread it.

C'mon, give him a link. Unless his "extremely reliable" source can get him one.

I don't have the post bookmarked, but I recently read oneright here on the FS board. I'd look it up...but digging through tons of topics just to find yet another unsubstantiated thread on the same rumor seems like a little bit more work than it's worth.
Fine, I will do it....I cant make a clicky though....

sure...NOW its a rumor...good job buddy. You happy?
lol, nahhh, it kinda backfired...he has no credibility whatsoever. And neither does his "Super-Fantastic Reliable Source"
I have to agree with this rumor. While he might be doing a good job of starting one then to get support for his wanting to remove the village he is right. I do not think there should ever be "work" in a game since it is for entertainment and not a second job. The whole grinding trend that I know started when I playing EQ1. While this grind is not nearly as bad as getting to max level in EQ1 then getting all the equipment needed to be a good max level it is still annoying. I have done that grind for one reason the grind was offset by the great reward and it could be done at your pace however you choose. If you found a fast way to get there and could get your friends to help great (Druids PLing using DSes was a great way to accomplish this) you are playing the game to its fullest potential.
Now in SWG they have created an 18 week min grind and it is only 18 weeks because they force it to be 18 weeks. Either do a timegate where there little to no grind or get rid of the time and have a grind that is quite long. Now your going to say what about casual players this and that jedi are supposed to be hard blah blah yadda yadda. Jedi are not hard to attain it just proves that you can grind the exp and pay SOE enough money to keep your account active for 18 weeks after you get glowy. Should Jedi be hard to attain? Yes but they should come from the natural course of playing the game rather than something you can grind to achieve. Now who is to say what is the limit to get a Jedi (wish it could also be Sith) through the natural course of the game. Well since I always had the feeling the jedi were put in at the behest of the marketing and suits department not the designers and programmers then it will be money.
Jedi were always seen as a way to make more money. Just like Leia said to Han if money is all you want then you will have your reward (something like that). I say fine not like they are going to be able to reduce the number of jedi in the game already. New plan for Jedi aquisition the money so SOE can get what they want. This should be known all over the gaming community to try and bring in new players since the old player will most likely be pissed off that what they have grinded for now anyone with money can get the same thing they did, but they get an in-game item too.
Player buys the total experience with the dreams of becoming a Jedi in a MMO setting where multiple people are around that he can interact with /show off. Player gets into the game and realizes aww crap I am not a Jedi right out of the bat. After his 30 day trial is up he informed that if he signs up for a 6month sub right now he can get a code to take to someone in the village that will grant him the 6 trees in the FS branches. (mind you he must become FS first during the 30 days) Now this player has already payed for the time to grind the FS and more past the time so he will just go ahead and play his new little jedi. Now he has to grind out the Jedi and avoid vis so BH don't come after him. Now that the older community is outraged they will be calmed with an in-game item. a special kind of Jedi Robe that will take on the stats for the current rank of Jedi you are. So if you go from Padawan to Knight the item will change in stats to be of the Knight. This is a Tee-Shirt that reads "I Grinded The Village and all I got was this lousey tee-shirt!"
Now if you want to go ahead and grind the village you can to get your tee shirt however, you must choose between the fast way or the slow way. There will be no difference in power just cosmetic just because someone starts a game earlier does not entitle them to more than newer players.
Here is what this might do for the game
Pros: New players and new blood into the game where others games will be ripping it away since WoW has shown people you do not need to have a boring grind to make a game worth while. More Jedi will mean more people to fight in the FRS so it will more diverse and complex. More newbs being Jedi will be getting vis and BH will have a much better time hunting them since they are not full temps. Value of Jedi as a for sale item will be nothing. Why pay 300 bucks when you can just pay for the 6 month sub you will be paying anyway after you buy the Ebay Jedi.
Cons: Players will be mad that what they have "worked" for will not be as valuable any more and not give them the Elitist attitude they so dream for and hunt after madly and leave the game.
This is the rumor I heard about since SOE like money so much
