The CU is going to SUCK!!! if it forces people who like being able to solo, to change their playstyle by being forced to group to hunting anything above an ant. I can see high end content not being soloable, like Krayt Dragons, NS elders, etc. But if I cannot take a character class that puts out the most DPS of all the melee classes, and not kill a rancor youth? For me that will ruin the game. I LIKE being able to solo. Not to mention you will NEVER get LS experiance, because you "have" to group to hunt anything, which will give you vis.

Yup. It is very funny how everyone can have their own opinion. Some of us even do NOT condem other people or be a smart#*$ when someone else expresses theirs. You should try it sometime :-)

We really have to wait and see exactly what the CU will bring. The Devs said somewhere (can't remember where) that soloing will still be viable after the CU, but there will be some things that will require a group to do.

True, I agree with that. Notice I used the word "if" in my statment. It is too soon to predict what is really going to happen with the CU. My point was that "IF" it went a certain way, it is going to suck. Not that it will suck no matter what happens. If the rumor is that solo will still be viable afte rthe CU, I will be a happy camper. Otherwise I won't. And yes, if it goes that way, chances are I will leave the game as the other fellow was so kind to offer as a solution.

Anyway perma-death is a bad solution (guess you were joking but many think that serious). After spending months grinding your Jedi, you loose your connection (or anything else that you can not control like a CTD) in the middle of a fight and when you get back you have lost your jedi. That is pretty tough. Yes, would be a lot less Jedi though.
I wasn't joking.

If Jedi was more like a normal profession in both how much XP you get when killing stuff and also how much XP you need to train then I think this might be possible. Also make Jedi more powerful than they are today. But you would see a lot more griefing (and large gank squads). You would really need to have a big group of body guards to survive.
And to have a very reliable internet connection (not like mine which sucks big time)

90% of the time, when people grief Jedi, it's by people who are angry or frustrated that they don't have their Jedi.
If Jedi was selectable at startup, EVERYONE would have the option of playing one or not, and no one would feel left out. (and don't give me any of that crap about servers being overpopulated by Jedi if this happened. You can't log in without running in to a Jedi nowadays anyway)
Until that happens, I totally support Jedi Permadeath. With the fear of losing a hard-earned, difficult to grind character, Jedi would most certainly start watching their attitudes.
They'd also hide a lot more (no more of this "omg there are too many Jedi"). You can't complain about something you don't see.
You'd hardly see Jedi pulling out their sabers to show off in Coronet. No one would want to lose their toon due to showing off.
Jedi would not have such an impact on PvP. I constantly read arguments on the forums about who owned who in PvP. And somewhere, in almost every thread, someone mentions how many Jedi each side had. With Permadeath, Jedi would hardly show up in PvP at all, unless they truly wanted to. And so people wouldn't complain about raiding parties composed entirely of Jedi.
With Permadeath back, Jedi would most certainly do everything they could to keep the people around them happy. An angry millionaire can afford to hire the best bounty hunters.
With Jedi Permadeath, relationships with guilds would smooth over. Guilds talk too much trash, and are too brash nowadays. With the fear of their enemies targeting their beloved Jedi brethren, there would be a LOT less petty arguments and trash talking.
Some use the excuse of CTD's, or latency issues. Jedi Permadeath would slow down the "powergrinders" a lot. All the professions are great experiences. One can either grind through them as quickly as possible, to be "uber", or they can take their time, and enjoy the game around them. If CTD's or Lag is a problem for a Jedi, they should stop "grinding" on Dathomir, and stick to safer places like Corellia or Talus. I'm aware that Jedi XP is hard to get. But I'm someone who did the TK grind, without VK's, on tatooine... running missions from Mos Eisley. I was in no rush, and no one should be. The game isn't going anywhere.
(a humorous example of this was on the trade forums for wanderhome. Wildmann asked which profession used polymer with a high DR. Hurlobacca responded with "check swgcraft to check which professions use which resources". He must have grinded through weaponsmith. I, on the other hand, took my time with weaponsmith. and I knew that out of all the professions, ironically, weaponsmith was the only crafting profession that used polymer where DR was one of the primary attributes. Odd that Hurlobacca didn't. There is an example of what can happen when you "grind" your profession, or learn it.)
Of course, with the new change to the system, no one would really want to lose their main character at all. A great modifier to the "permadeath character deletion" had popped into my head. After 3 deaths (like before), the toon would lose all Jedi skills, and all Jedi xp. Back to padawan. And at least they'd be able to keep their sabers, money, loot, and all that stuff. And best of all, they'd still have their main character alive and well.
Even when I become a Jedi Padawan with Ario, I'll believe in Jedi Permadeath. I don't plan on showing off, and I don't plan on power-leveling through it. And 2 years from now, I'll probably still be killing durnis outside Doaba Guerfel, working on my first Jedi skillbox.

I'm going Jedi myself, just started the village this week. Why? Becauze I am so sick of it that I'm being killed in pvp by Jedi all the time.
In my opinion, Jedi pvp should be like this:
Light Jedi should only be able to attack Dark Jedi (so no non-Jedi Imps/Rebs unless they ask for a duel) This would keep Jedi away from killing everybody and gets them into fair fights only vs other Jedi.
for PVE Jedi should be able to attack anything, of course.

Fantastic. So after those 2 years you spent on grinding, if you die, you can give up ALL YOUR Jedi skills that you spent 2 years grinding, and start back from the beginning. If since it is such a great solution, you can do it voluntarily :-)
I do not for one second subscribe to the permadeath thing. Your argument seems like all the problems with trash talking in the game and brashness in the game, is directly related to the amount of Jedi in the game. I have to disagree with this point. Yes, when you get strong characters, you like to show off, and depending on your personal character out of the game, talk trash. If it were not for the Jedi, the TKM's would do it, and if not for the TKM's, the Swordsmen would do it, and the Rifleman would do it. There will always be a strong class in the game. I have played several online games and you see it in EVERY game, not just this one. I do not think it is a particular class of character that causes it, I think it is a person who has a problem outside the game. I was running around outside of correlia - cnet a couple of months ago, and a newbie was running around with an aprentice swords tag up. He cut in on my spawn without asking. Yes, I know it is not "My" spawn, as nobody owns it. But then he started talking smack. He obviously had not been playing long or he would have known NOT to accept a duel from someone you do not know after you talk smack to them. It took all of 5 seconds to kill him and send him to the clone room. He was NOT a Jedi. Not an advanced prof. He was barely a beginning prof, yet he was talking trash. And I have seen more than 1 of his type in my time in this game. So you cannot accurately predict that things would smooth over by imposing such drastic consequences on a powerful class of character. What it will do, is make the profession soooo unapealing that nobody would want to spend the time and effort to play it. Then the primary class that makes SWG SWG, would no longer exist as a viable class. Think about it. The Jedi are the only class that makes this game Starwars. Otherwise it is just another Sci-Fi based game.
Jedi are already hard enough to play. Takes forever to grind them, even longer to build them without grinding. They already have another class of charcter in the game that hunts them exclusivly. They lose that hard to get XP when they lose to ANYTHING, resulting in more grinding. They have strong limitations placed no them such as vis. To get any rank above a knight they have to fight other jedi (comparable characters) and get very little from normal classes. Don't try and destroy a class and pin all the woes of the game on them. Pin it where it belongs, on the players behind the character that like to be disruptive of other peoples fun.

Yeah. Great idea.
That would also cut down on Jedi, because then all the PvP'ers would drop out of the Jedi grind, and defense stackers might thin out a bit.

Yes. That is the point. From what I understood, Jedi was supposed to be a high-risk profession to do. I am a master weaponsmith. From what I hear, at Knight, a Jedi's template is complete, so XP loss isn't a problem. I'm not sure if you've ever been an active weaponsmith, but I can assure you, I'd gladly trade XP loss for MY frustrations any day.Advertising, competing with 12pt smiths, and scrounging up harvester maintenance from my 3k per week weapons sales... yeah. I'll take xp loss. And just like a Knight, It wouldn't mean too much to a master weaponsmith. Like a weaponsmith, a Jedi should know what they're getting into. And if it truly was a High-Risk profession, the Jedi should be played where they are constantly afraid of dying. Not just "omg, I gotta grind another week before I'm uber", but truly have a reason to hide.

you have confronted them as quickly as you confronted the newbie? Yes, I would, and Yes I have. I do not believe someone talking trash is doing it because they are playing their character. It is a reflection purely of the player behind the character, and I do not like people who do that. And I have seen
more than 1 of his type in my time in this game. So you cannot accurately predict
that things would smooth over by imposing such drastic consequences on a powerful
class of character. What it will do, is make the profession soooo unapealing that
nobody would want to spend the time and effort to play it. This would make Jedi
rare, as they are supposed to be in this timeframe. but at least they could still
have the option to play them, even if they chose not to.Then the primary class
that makes SWG SWG, would no longer exist as a viable class. Think about it. The
Jedi are the only class that makes this game Starwars. Then Jedi should be available
to everyone, without abandoning the content and quests in the game so they can
grind. Available to non-grinders like myself They ARE avaiable to anyone who wants to spend the time and effort to build one. From your own words, the satisfaction should come from the journey. They can take time off from grinding and do normal quests and content, as long as they do not use Jedi skills. So they are not really limited until they hit high levels.Otherwise it is just another Sci-Fi
based game. Jedi are already hard enough to play. Takes forever to grind them,
even longer to build them without grinding. True enjoyment comes through the journey,
not the completion. What's your rush? They already have another class of charcter
in the game that hunts them exclusivly. They lose that hard to get XP when they
lose to ANYTHING, resulting in more grinding. To stay off the terminals, avoid
using force powers or your lightsaber in front of people.I agree with this, this is called playing smart, and many do it already. Although everyone makes a mistake every now and then, and then they get on the terms and get hunted. Refer back to my "no
one should show off" statements, both here, and in my earlier post. They have
strong limitations placed no them such as vis. To get any rank above a knight
they have to fight other jedi (comparable characters) and get very little from
normal classes. Don't try and destroy a class and pin all the woes of the game
on them. Pin it where it belongs, on the players behind the character that like
to be disruptive of other peoples fun. I agree. But I wasn't trying to "Pin all
the woes of the game" on Jedi. I was merely referring to Jedi-impact on Jedi-related
issues. I would be happy to go into long detail about Crafters, Healers, Riflemen,
Dot weapons, CM's, Creature Handlers, and so on in a different thread (if one
arises). A lot of people have many problems with a lot of different professions.
This was a Jedi-related thread, so I discussed the Jedi's impact on the metagame.
You apparently misread my post. But your response was well thought out, and I
agree with you on many points. I have highlited in yellow where I believe you
misunderstood my comments, or where I disagreed with you. 5 stars for you.
