Thread: The state of the game, the CU & the discontinued/unfinished parts of SWG (long)
Great points.........Thank you for posting this, I just hope the paying community of SWG gets some respect from SOE. I hope this isn't the end of SWG. The bottom line is that you just can't toy with your community and think that they don't care.

Like I said in another post, we need another developer team...
- A teamwho cares about the players and correspondants (who are bumping into solid walls atm)
-A teamwho has plans for the game (whatever their small salaries are)
- A team who is not afraid to implement and enforce realistic rules to have us really feel the true SW universe for the current timeline and stop wanting to please every complaining whiners.
- A team who is passionate about its work
In one word, a team who loves Star Wars universe, plain and simple.
My theory is that the actual Developers like their product. Most often a craftsman loves their own product and are willing to work for it.
Although I believe Management (with the cash)have taken a decision that SWG should be discontinued, and sold by theStar Wars License rather than a quality experience. I believe their staff have been cropped down to an absolute minimum, a team repeatily switched and moved around, people leaving due to mistreatment, new people who barely know the game is hired. TheCSR's are underpayed or overworked with no money invested in training. There's simply not enough people for basic upkeep of the game.
The only save is a decision by thoose with the money:
- We want SWG to be known as a Quality product.
- We want our players to say "SWG is an awesome game! Play it!" to their friends.
- We arewilling to invest the money required to fulfil that vision.
- We need a strong .plan for making the game top notch.
- Just tell us and we provide you with what you need:
1. How many men and women do SWG need to read and understand the issues players have with our product?
2. How many men and women do SWG need to make this game a quality experience for each profession.
3. How many men and women do SWG need toupkeep that image once that goal is fulfilled?
4. How many men and women do SWG need toenhance and increase gameplayonce that goal is fulfilled?
5. Can our systems be improved with addition of new hardware/software?
Good, lets make this game a blast before Christmas 2005.
Hi MsNil,
Play the game while you still can then move on.
There is absolutely nothing you can do other than destroying your and our nerves by showing facts we already know but want to ignore "to have fun a bit". Mathematical balance in your mind will not going to happen. I assume you are not developer, you did not work for any gaming company comparing your knowledge / balance theories to an giant MMORPG expertcompany developers.
Ofcourse we all want for the best of ourselves. If you are displeased and lost your enthuasism for play, go on Cancel if you can (which I believe you will not at all) but stop trying to end other's enthuasism at least a little left to play.
There is other MMORPG's waiting for you. Mark my words you will notice same stuff in every MMORPG even it does not look like that from the external view.
Sorry, unlike others, I'm not going to support you on this cause. You are the paying customer, you have the power to quit. But stop dramas here. Last thing this community needs are dramas which seperated all player base from each other. As I said in CU: Love it or Leave it. You are clicking on "I agree" everytime you start the game to term: Game experience may change.

yea, when you think about it - the game has been in a depressing downward spiral in terms of bugs and broken game mechanics since it started. they thought they would fix that by re-inventing the game with the much hyped CU. It obviously didn't work. They greatly simplified the game, yet they still can't bend their brains around it enough to fix problems that have been in the game since launch.
What keeps me from cancelling? Well, I love Star Wars. I've already invested 2 years into my main toon. I don't have any interest in starting up a new toon in a new MMO. So I guess I just keep paying and praying every month that eventually they will straighten things out and this game will rock. If not, SWG will die a very slow, painful death because of exactly what I just said. I think for the most part ppl are very slow to leave this game once they've played for a while. We have alot of devoted veteran players who are hanging on for dear life.
If only they could fix stuff - this game is much better than most of the other big name MMO's out now. It has more scope and sheer number of things to do, and is bigger in terms of environment than any other game out there.
C'mon SOE, get 'er done!
Interesting speculation: "around the end of 2004 something happened to SWG".
This is what happened:
The original team who developed SWG - people like Raph Koster and Gordon Gaddis (sp?) - were promoted upwards.
At the same time, EQ2 was launched. The programmers concerned with the launch were brought over to SWG to fill in the gaps.
A distinct change of "vision" became apparent and, equally, a certain incomprehension with the ethos and the workings of this very sophisticated game.
