NO. You only get a reward for completing a quest, and since a free unlock is just that (free) you won't get a reward.

how does it work ?
i have one free unlock does it unlock the branch? and will i have to the quest or not?

no you dont have to do the quest. make sure you choose wisely cuz you could cut 3 weeks off your total village time if you do.

ok anyone know what is easier vehicle speed or melee speed quest ?

not done vehicular control myself, but melee speed was really really easy. i have heard that the vehicular control quest is also easy, but is very long and involves riding a bike lots

Both are pretty easy.
Melee speed though is a 3-day quest. So I'd unlock it for free and do vehicle control, as it's easy and will take less than 2 hrs to do.
Lucky to have a free unlock. Had to get all of mine
The hardest unlock to do is Phase 3 combat prowess, melee accuracy. Which is a VITAL one if you want to go Jedi.
If I had ONE free unlock, that's the one I'd take.
Phase 4 is hard, but if you do it on the first couple days, there are dozens there with you fighting, and it's fairly easy.

Vehicular control is cake. The best part though is you get the +2000 health crystal though it can only be used once every 3 days, I did it just for the crystal and didn't train. I had one free unlock and picked melee accuracy as it. I am glad I did cause from what I have read it seems to be the hardest quest and for some people next to impossible to finish do to some bugs.

I read the faq but wasn't too clear on its meaning....how exactly do you get a free unlock?

do you mean where they come from or what you do to get them?
They come from having done holocron professions before they changed how you become a Jedi (or just overall doing a lot of professions before the change)
You get them by talking to a NPC in the village (not gonna try to spell his name, I'll spell it wrong it says in the sticky about unlocking though) one of the options when you talk to him allows you to use free unlocks.
