A ranger friend of mine (two lines at Lvl-4) has a cap of 175,000 Scout xp. My xp cap (Hunting and Exploration-4) is 30k. The small cap is a pain, but I'm also a Creature Handler 4-2-0-3, and I get a LOT of CH xp when using a (well -armored!) pet against rancors: about 450 to 490 CH xp for rancors/gnarled rancors/rancor youths, and a whopping 1100 for an Enraged Rancor. Add to that about 750 Scout xp per adult rancor sub-type for harvesting, and it makes for a pretty impressive set of XP from a lair that typically generates a total of 10 to 11 adults and one or two babies:

  • 34,000 weapons XP (includes about 4,000 for destroying the lair itself)

  • 3,400 combat XP

  • 3,200 Creature Handler XP

  • 8,300 Scout XP

That boils down to about 3000 Combat Prowess or Enhanced Reflexes xp, and about 1400 Heightened Senses xp per lair. And it takes me aboutfifteen to twentyminutes to go on a complete mission run, from the moment I first hit a terminal to returning for more missions, or about 6-8 lairs per hour, or about 15 to 20 lairs per buff (with some wiggle room for other things, like ruining the occasional Nightsister's day). The math works out to about 400 rancor lairs for each of my five combat/reflex skill branches, by which time I should have easily filled my FS Healing branch along the way. So, assuming that a typical evening's session for you is a single set of buffs, that would work out to about 20 to 26 nights' worth of steady gaming to fill one branch to level-4.

Still, I agree with you: That is a lot of rancors to mow down. Is it within the reach of a casual player? Probably. This would fit into the rule of thumb I'd heard from a friend who first filled me in on the intent of the developers, which was to make it such that becoming a Jedi Initiate would require six months' worth of steady gameplay for the average elite character.

when i actually feel like grinding out fs xp i hunt rancors. i am a master ranger and when i hunt i can max out rifle(900000xp) scout(160000xp) and get a few hundred thousand trapping xp and 100k combat xp at once. and i can do this at least 1 1/2 times per buff session. trapping and scout xp are used for force senses and if your tading in 160k scouting at 1 to 8 and 200k trapping at 1 to 25 it goes just as fast as combat

mutated rancors give me the best scout xp. And yes, as it has been pointed out, if anyone intends to use scout xp for any senses trees you really need to become ranger or you are wasting your time.
