Any character in the game can use a C12 grenade with the exception of wookies atm due to a bug, the cert is a freebee just like the cdef weapons given to all. But here is a great question that I haven't found an answer to yet:
The novice commando has a grenade cert for it along with certs going up the entire grenade tree. Which cert is the C22 for? My guess is novice commando, and regrinding out a new template to pick up nov just to test this is absurd.

I've been doing this.
I group on Dantooine with a pet, no one else. I then take 11K giant baz nitch missions in the same general area. Once I get to the lair, I unarmed attack3 the nest untill 5 or 6 baz nitches spawn. If there's 6, I will attack the 6th and pull it into melee with me. Then I throw 4, and only 4, stacks of grenades at the mobs. They end up about half dead, and I finish them with melee. I earn 3000 combat experience and about as much unarmed experience per liar. I could keep throwing grenades, I know, but the thing is I get almost as much experience in the same ammount of time, but I save on grenades. A single crate of 25 grenades will get me 6 nests, and earn me about 70K on a 30K crate of grenades. I end up making about twice as much as I spend on repairs and weapons.
I don't use powerups. Even though it might seem cheap to buy a stack of 10 powerups for 2500, that's 250 per stack of grenades. That eats away my profit.
Doing this, I will cap out combat xp in a single buff session. In fact, I usually end up getting back to the outpost to heal my BF about the same time as my buffs are ending. It's not the fastest way to do things, but I'm still earning nice money, and I will get enough xp to finish my 6th tree even long before I can unlock it in the next phase.
In the last 4 days, I have earned about 600,000 in profit from doing this. Not amazing money, obviously, but it's money I have at the end of the day, even after restocking grenades, armor, and vehicles. Since I can no longer do Jantas in solo groups for 32K, I'll have to live with it.

But I also wanted to point out a hybrid idea. If you are thinking about grenades, but don't want to use the expensive ones .. but using C12's just seem to not be fast enough for you .. I would suggest this: if you get the longest buff you can (3hours something) and you master two professions (for me TK and Swords) you CAN max both professions and max out on combat xp in one buff. That's about 160k FS xp a buff. I think. I don't like math.

yeah, C-12 nades arent that great. Even if you want to mix the weapons used, so kill half the mob with nades and half with normal weapons. You would get xp slower, but you would also kill faster.
