I too tried the GBN and also was getting nowhere. I haven't personally seen C12's being any use at all. With GBN's I couldn't even get the liar or the GBN's down to half usuing close to 75 grenades.

Snar,

I went at it last night and finally got the hang of it. Was able to cap Combat XP last night. It seems I was using crummy c12's so I found another source. Thanks!

I'm a master commando and easily pull 100k fs xp per hour when grinding. A big trick to it is to know your 'nades and know your enemies. And don't just simply look at the damage. Pay attention to AP values, damage type, radius, etc.

Most 'nades do blast damage. C12's, C22's, Imps, and Thermals all do blast damage. Especially important with C12's is they have no AP value. This can seriously hinder your damage output if you come across something with armor that's res blast.

Personally I use sliced powered up proton's on giant baz nitches and mow through it with ease. 3 missions caps me on combat xp. Slicing is stupidly expensive unless you're a smuggler to do that many items, so feel free to ignore that bit. But always always powerup your 'nades. They're so much cheaper compared to a crate of 'nades and help out so much more.

If you're going to focus on grinding with 'nades, go commando. It will make it so much faster that with the time saved you can drop it when done and regrind your old skills. You're going to drop those skills for jedi anyways, right?

i was strenuously against going grenades. I was enjoying taking my time (had 8 unlocks, had 1 BOX filled, lol!). With CU, i decided that just in case, i should finish the fs thing, as i recalled the last time they changed things (i.e. from the old method of getting jedi to the new "glowy" fs grind method), there was a huge increase in how long it took to get there. I didn't want to risk that again. So i did one box with my perfect template, which took me a long time to get and which i loved. I was doubtful, worried, sceptical that I'd get fs exp as fast as people say if i went 4000 commando (u've read all the silly posts about how people can cap faster than u can say it)...I was sceptical because i killed things sooooooo fast with my old template, faster than anyone i knew! i tried the c12's and i thought OMG i can get expfaster just using my swords. However, after a number of guildies swore that 4000 commando with thermal detonators was the way to go, i did it. i gave up my perfect template and took the risk. I can honestly say that as a 4000 commando equiping the weapon that u are master certified at (i.e. vk as master tka, or powerhammer as master swordsman) (since this gives MORE exp than equiping a weapon u arent' master at such as a rifle for a master marksman), i am getting fs exp WAY WAY faster than i ever could without thethermal detonators. All i use is thermal detonators. I almost never use my weapon that i equip. If you go 4000 commando and ahve an elite fighting profession, you cannot go wrong.

I Hope this helps!

C12's work well against Bolle Bol Stompers, Mantigruesor Bark Mite Burrowers on Endor. Anything less than 5K missions, you get better xp equipping a non-certified weapon. You'll get anywhere from 3000-4000 combat xp per mob, and they die quick. Use the "stand on the lair and target the lair" method. I used this in combination with capping unarmed to get 120K FS in a buffsession. Don't forget to group with your droid and eat Ormachek.

Krebain,
I must be doing something wrong then. What damage did your c12's do?

You probably aren't doing anything wrong, but you have to realize that the C12 is weaker and without Commando 4/0/0/0, you are throwing slower.

I have tried all methods. I used to grind out TKM and M Swords to cap. I used to use C12's, and they were exactly as you describe them...slow and very boring.

Then, one day, I read about the CU, and EQ2 style Power-Leveling..and I realized that I needed to get myself in gear and finish this grind. As posted previously, I dropped all of Medic except for the Novice box, and all of merchant, all of TKM, and grinded out Master Marksman and Commando 4/0/0/0 in just under 2 buffs.

I have a WS friend who made me all the Thermals and Imp Dets I can handle, and 33% PuPs (used great resources..another favor). I chew though lairs so fast and cap Combat XP and convert almost 4 times per buff...so 300-400 FS XP per buff when I try, and a minimum of 125 FS XP when I am lazy.

I view the CU as an end...a brick wall...and I have done all I can to get in under it. I have focused my template and toon on finishing this, and I have made sacrifices that have been well worth it.

My advice: GET IN A SOLO GROUP FIRST. Then, cruise to Lok and hunt wild Gurk lairs. You will find one in about 20 seconds. I have pulled 200k of Combat XP out of ONE lair on occasion...that is the truth, and others will confirm that. They spawn and spawn and spawn sometimes. Once you get to around 220-240K Combat XP, cruise to Dath and grab 2 GBN missions in the SE direction, any distance and head to the first lair. Hit the first wave and head to the second lair. Hit the first wave of the second lair and check Combat XP. If I am getting close to the 300k cap, I leave the 2 mission lairs and head to the village, and smoke a few randoms on the way, which caps me.

Get to the village, convert, and head back to the closest lair. The second wave of GBN will be waiting. Kill wave 2 and then, I tap the lair below 30% with my PH. This can spawn a few more GBN. I nade this too, then wipe the lair. Head to the first lair now and finish the same way. Then, head to the Science Outpost, grab 2 more GBN's or head to Lok...rinse and repeat.

I don't think you would be as effective without some Thermals or Imp Dets, and Commando 4/0/0/0, but do what you can, and you'll get it.

This is almost identical to what I'm doing, except for the going to Lok business. 300k combat takes 40-60 minutes depending on how lag ridden Dath is. Using an AT-ST eliminates the need for a solo group, but you'll get lvl99 with solo group vs lvl75 with the AT. Kamurith snappers are also good value, they pay a bit higher too at around 18k, steer clear of defilers and nocuous ones though unless you have means to heal disease and poison.

Using C12-22 is like using a cdef weapon, they are the cdef of grenades remember. Imp Dets are the minimum, and I actually prefer them over thermals, both in the crafting of, and the throwing. If you're not using 30+ max damage pups you're doing yourself a disservice.

I've been away for some weeks but i've knocked out from 331110 to 444420 in the last 5 days, no screwing about, buff after buff, the only time I take a break from it is to go farm FP on talus, which I normally do after my entertainer buffs die.

Having a home made supply of 2k+ dets and 33+ pups, certainly isnt hurting my cause any.

Exactly. If I didn't already change my template to 4/0/0/0 Commando, I sure would NOW. There are two types of people in the world: Those who live now, and those who live then. I live now, so I know the current system and what it will take to beat the CU in regards to the FS grind. Those who live in the "then", have a very uncertain future when the CU hits, and XP may then be harder to get.

Whew...didn't turn out too bad...I was worried the wine would have made my post incoherent. One unfortunate side effect, however, is that I dropped some skills and trained all FS skills I could...I was sick of banking XP...I broke....but it makes it much more clear how much FS XP I have left to go
