I thought you had to be grouped when taking the mission from Sarguillo initally to get credit?

No, you don't. I took the mission from Sarguillo solo, searched for disks for a couple of days, and tried once by myself. The day I completedit, I met a guildie (who had also accepted the mission days before on his own) at one of the bases he had a remote for. We grouped at the base, then dropped the shields. Both got credit.
