if you knew about the FRS, thats not being turned on for a while, because they are fixing bugs before any new content
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Where did I say the WERE going to turn it on anytime soon? You assumed that's what I mean. What I did was reply to the OP. You should never assume. Always READ what you are replying to, and comment on what it SAYS. I know about the FRS not being turned on anytime soon, and I know about them concentrating on fixing bugs. Thats not what the OP asked though.

This is not an RPG. Almost no MMORPGs on the net at the moment are actually played like roleplaying games - mostlly because the majority of player have no concept of what "roleplaying" is, and in fact think its too geeky to be involved in. Many actively enjoy ruining the gaming experience of those who would prefer to roleplay in fact, either out of jealousy, because they are asses or just pure bloodimindedness. The fact that the CSRs do not filter names, do not enforce RPG oriented rulesets etc only encourage the lack of roleplaying.

Most people just don't "get" roleplaying, have never seen it, let alone engaged in it, and thus don't perceive the loss of a more intense and enjoyable form of gaming if you are into it. If you want roleplaying, pen and paper games are your best bet, because even games that have dedicated roleplaying servers - like Dark Age of Camelot or WOW - don't enforce the rules. SWG doesn't even have a specific Roleplaying server. If Mythic had acted on complaints about conduct by DELETING offending characters and banning accounts, they might have gotten a more serious and effective result, but as it is they held their hand and now there is no more roleplaying on the RP servers in DAOC than there is on the regular ones. SWG is merely worse.

My response to the original question is that this was *never* a roleplaying game. Most players are don't even know what it is, let alone engage in it. The majority of those who do know what it is, detest it. Only a tiny fragment of the population actually plays their character as if they were in that POV.

I am 6 weeks in and am tkm/mcm/novice rifle (my first template), and knew virtually nothing of the game or how it was based. I am fairly new to rpgs and thats how I like to play swg. I try to stay in character as much as possible, but have now made a few friends and we sometimes yap about sports or whatever. I use swg to escape rl for a few hours here and there and "live" in a galaxy i have relished and longed for, for nearly 30 years.

I dont blame newbs for wanting to become jedi...what did soe think SW fans would want?!? "im going to buy a SW based game and pay 15/mo to become a food making Bothan, or a dancing Rodian!" I doubt that roled off many peeps lips. SOE was for some reason caught off gaurd by this Jedi phenomena....duh!!!! Now they are trying to fix it...to lean out the Jedi. I agree with every post except maybe the perma-death thing, ide quit tomorrow if that was a possibility. Its very upsetting to see people being made fun of because they are new and dont understand the game. I tried to read these forums a few days b4 i got the game, but it was like reading greek....backwards ( you all and your dammed abbreviations! lol). After a month and a half (had extra time, so have put in a helluva lot of hours in that time) i finally am understanding more and more and got "the visit" yesterday in the middle of nyms themepark (completely by surprise). So i jumped to the FS forums to see what was going to happen next. I didnt want to rush the jedi thing (lol..can you?), but now that i got the visit i am a bit excited again about the game that was just starting to get a tad stale.

I just dont understand how soe didnt understand that 3/4 or more of the people would want to become Jedi in a SW game. Maybe they did and made it a "grind" to weed out those.......not worthy. HA! They found out that the draw of the force was too overpowering and did not deture as many as they thought they could. So now what? I dont know..im still a newb in my eyes, and wont pretend to knowwhat a game of this magnitude requires to balance out. Nerfing? Sure, i guess, make them less desirable, but that seems to be a.....quick, simple approach..a bit unoriginal and lacking much thought (= /..sry soe). Makethe grindtedious and boring? Yup thats the ticket. That will weed out somemore. Yeah, probably? My idea would be to make the other prof. more appealing and im sure they have done this to a point. Add new weapons/tactics. Make the other parts of the game more appealing. I am used to tactical games and these "missions" are a JOKE! You dont even have to read the instructions...just go to the way point and if you can attack, kill it,if not, converse....then head back...FUN HUH? SOE has left this game up to the players to form their own inner games, which makes sense for an online game.....to a point.

My best idea is to perk up all other profs a bit and make bounty hunters the absolute coolest prof by far (as far as combat), more weapons, more tactics, more exclusive items for BH, Make them the bomb! Then add more involved missions. Then what happens?.....you have a galaxy 3/4 full of Jedi and BH. So what? SOE is litterally trying to control a live galaxy....GOOD LUCK!LOL! Boy this started off as a simple agreement with the previous posts, but i guess i had more to say...

just a newb's perception of the SW galaxie so far....

However, a lot of people did want this from the game for a long time. When I first started (somewhere between pub 8 and 9 I think) there were hardly any Jedi. Sure people were hologrinding like crazy, but there were significant numbers of people who wanted to be just a bothan chef, a dancing Rodian. There still are, albeit far fewer these days.

Something changed when Jedi got easier, got more public, and less of a 'secret'.

I do find it so interesting that some people would like to see these low lvl jedi and such get hosed, and want to quit the game...it just reminds me of pre CU people who write game reviews online about how horrible the CU is. I just have a question, do you really want to lose a massive amount of the population??? The way it is now is fine really, and so what if there are, and will be more jedi(there will always be the 2nd most popular prof BH around to hunt them)? I do think that there may be some changes needed to reward those jedi who've played longer, maybe a higher class of jedi and some xtra skill points or something. But why the solution most people propose involves hampering other people, instead of helping, is beyond me. Video games are for fun, just remember that, this isn't real; and your roleplaying can go along while others play more for fun in between their games of Madden football. I've played for about 2 months, and am going for Jedi, simply because after 6 months of playing my BH/rifles/cm, I'm sure I'll want to move on to what is basically the most deep profession(jedi).

Certainly, I do think the professions other than Jedi could use more of a kick, and some more reasons to play them. Also they should let one unlock an Alt. w/out Jedi because only a fool would miss the chance to have an artisan raking in dough for their combat character w/out dropping an extra 15 bucks a month.

Also when you say this is turning into KOTOR online, please remember that KOTOR is simply THE BEST Star Wars game ever.

And while im at it, move the timeline along, I want Luke whooping up on IMPs , not wearing the dump orange flight suit and handing out schems for a piece of junk blaster.

Honestly, what they have done to entertainers does more harm to RP than the jedi ever will. Anyone else remember going out and adventuring, and eventually winding up in the local cantina with everyone having a grand time?

I pity the entertainers. they have been screwed worse than all others and the game is worse for it.

This game is what you make of it. On Kettemoor there are Roleplaying events every night with a variety of people ranging from Jedi to Rangers. So while a lot of the quests and content are based on what the developers have implemented to the game, a good chunk of it is what the characters inside the servers do to make it their game.

What would be really good (and funny:smileytongue is just let all the BH able to kill any jedi they see can you say griefing? and bring back perma-death for about a month. nope, never gonna happen. took it away for good reasons. Just make a small note where not many people will notice. well you sure are nice, make a small note where people might notnotice that their jedi they worked on for a while will be deleted if they die 3 times? nice...I know jedi would probably just hide in their homes and play with their alt for a month but if you could take them by suprise you could get a huge chunck of jedi eliminated. VERY STUPID IDEA I too once I'm a jedi will play like a jedi is ment to be (one I pull out a lightsaber in from of a MBH:smileytongue

lol yeah that would be so stupid. I know it's never going to happen. And I apoligize to anyone who is ranting an idea that will never happen.

Actually, I bought SWG wanting to be a Jawa Droid Engineer (Jawa wasn't a playable species so I went with human) Hologrind rolled around and I stayed Droid Engineer. Was a DE for over a year before I dropped it to go Tailor/ID. I bought the game figuring there be no Player Jedi.

Bout the married thing, think its, get two rings, give one to your wife, and thier should be a propose option on the one you still got. Least I think that's how it works.

I actually got banned from a city last night for hard-core RP (never said anything mean, just insane)

Sadly, because Star Wars us SO CLOSE to our own reality (as far as speech and culture,) it should be very easy to roleplay here as you just have to "act youself" - but people don't.

People don't get /whisper, IC, OOC, /mood, and /emotes are all tools to enhance the environment in this RPG.

Unfortunately, for most, it's merely a gurk-grind to Jedi...
