Thread: What is it with players not wanting to WORK for it...?
Grind is fine, but some of the village quests are just ridiculous in light of how much grinding you have to do afterwards. The phase 3 quest for Dageerin has you taking down 8 sith bases, yet you can only do 3 every 24 hours. What is the point of this? I won't even mention the phase 4 healing quest from Silvara. You have to heal 50 people (100 for the reward), yet you only get credit for 1 heal per person as long as they're fighting an outlaw or pirate at the time you throw down the heal. On top of this, the group limit is EIGHT!!!
So while I'm fine with having to "work" (it's a game, if you're "working", quit playing) for my goals, and do not expect me to have it handed to me on a silver platter, but DAMN, those quests are just too stupid sometimes.

the grind might be easy, but it is boring for a game. Yes I know jedi is a valuable profession, but I'd rather have fun in the game...I might grind again, but I want to do something productive for the remainder of my vacation.
I think we should have unlimited 12hr respecs (fs/jedi in seperate pts of course) so we can always do whatever we want...it's a game isn't it?
I'm going to have to disagree on the point of respecing offer every 12hrs. That's just ridiculous! The respec wasa great idea and well deserved for the Combat Upgrade. It was good of them to let us change around our professions for a period of time so that we could adjust our templates according to how the new system worked. And that was only "fair". However, as it was useful and well deserved it was also VERY annoying! I don't (my own opinion, flame away) think SOE should ever offer full-time respecs because you want to "enjoy" more of the game. I don't want to see players that have never played a profession suddenly become masters in that profession! There would be total chaos, because those players would have absolutely NO idea how to play their profession. Plus just because you earned one mastered profession does not give you the right to just claim another. You must also grind your way up that one. Besides the system they have now it is way faster to grind out a mastered profession these days... All of this being my opinion of course!![]()
I totally agree! I got bored with grinding so I went over to Kette to start a new character and se how the new people were being introduced to the game, I came in pre-cu. I have to tell ya, I have had much nore fun jumping back and forth between the characters doing the different parts and proffesions in the game. If the jedi grind becomes a drag, go to another server role a new character from a different species and see what else tha game has to offer. You never know you just might have a fun time actually playing the game.

I come on this board occasionally to see solutions to common quest problems, posted bugs I might have as well, or just success stories about people unlocking. However it seems that I get on here seeing a lot of titles like "Get rid of grinding!" or "I hate phases" or "I hate SOE..they make me do stuff in a game I payed for!"
I am just wondering... why is it that players are so upset for a profession they DO NOT have to pursue? Jedi is optional. Period. Is this a trend among unexperienced players mostly? I'm really not sure... I just want to know if anyone else out there is satisfied with the system how it is.. no matter how they do it. Even holo-grinding was fine with me. I realize that Jedi is something great to strive for and that it will take some time and effort to achieve.
This doesn't take into account bugs and other game situations preventing or hendering players from achieving their goal.. that is just something that happens that does need to be fixed, but it's just one of those things.
Not really a flame just wondering why so many are like this?
I agree with you 100%, however I know why they are upset, I being one of them. I do not wish to pursue jedi, however I am an active PvPer. I cannot fully participate in PvP without losing to a jedi 1v1. For me to continue to PvP and to be sucessful at PvPing, I have to pursue the jedi profession, because it is the only one that is adept in PvP.

video games are to get away from real life and work. video games are fun. grinding = work. grinding = not fun. grinding all that xp isnt the way it should be
I found the grinding fun... it's all in your outlook I think. Have fun with a group... go to a cave once in a while. You're still getting something accomplished. Mix in some quests/missions with all that grinding and you can make it more enjoyable. I find myself missing the grind now that I am done with 2 unlocks left to go. Accumulated about 90 badges.. grind done.. just struggling on finding more content to complete. I definitely miss the groups from the grind.

I completely disagree. I think that's just lazy and defeats the purpose of an MMO.

By respec, I mean that you must of already grinded an elite, there should be a respec for combat/healing andone for crafting. They're basically the same aren't they? Who likes grinding anyway...we shouldn't have to do that every time we want to try something new. Except for jedi, that population must be controlled somehow.
If fighting mobs to gain experience is boring and repetitive it needs to be changed. SWG has the most extreme case of required grinding I have ever seen in an MMORPG. It is the majority of gameplay if you want to gain in CL and abilities, although there are of course a myriad of other options that are less effective, different places to hunt, different professions etc. In City of Heroes, I constantly heard people (who came from other games) refering to leveling up as "grinding" when I was never aware of that feeling - because missions were of themselves often quite interesting and challenging, particularly in a good group. On many occasions I leveled up and was suprised because I was more interested in the gameplay than I was in the status of my experience gaining. This doesn't seem to be the case in SWG. Hunting Bols on Dantooine is not "fun", its mindnumbingly boring, and I find myself watching the bar climb because I want the next box, instead of enjoying the process and the challenge. The biggest challenge in each mission is to ensure I get the mission exp bonus because I am healing, and if I don't heal or perform some similiar skill in the last few seconds I don't get the bonus. Its become utterly tedious, but the goal is still of interest to me, and other game elements (my crafting trade and building a business, the whole FS thing that is the reason I am grinding to Master Doctor atm etc) outweigh the tedium of leveling up. WHen that changes and the goals seem to be of less interest I will switch to a new game.
While the CU might be good for the game, I think the best thing for the devs to look at as a large scale change would be the elimination of the "endless grinding" feeling and making missions more interesting and challenging. Yes, I realize I can take more interesting and challenging missions if I want but when you join a group, everyone simply wants to take the least-risk most-boring missions - ie Bols, because the challenge and interest level of other misions types, not to mention the reward, is simply not high enough to make them feel worthwhile I suppose, and because we are all locked into the "grind" mentality.
My current plan is to stockpile enough weapons that I can keep my vendors filled up for as long as possible, drop weaponsmith and take up a weaponskill to get CL80, finish my FS grinding as quickly as I can, get to padawan status, then return to crafting and regrind (yes) my weaponsmith skills and try to recover my business which will no doubt have languished by then. Its proving hard to stockpile much because as fast as I make items, they seem to sell. I have a bout 600 items in stock at the moment, I figure I need the full 1750 on my vendors and as many again in storage if I can.
What I want is the alt, and I don't mind working for it. I don't mind having to level up professions to get it (although its annoying I have to drop Weaponsmith to do so, not because I don't want to regrind it, but because I enjoy doing it). I find the prospect of having an alt on the same server is a worthwhile goal. I have no desire to play on another server where I know no one and have to start fresh again, although I do have one alt on Corbantis.
I think part of the problem with leveling for many new players is it seems so slow. As opposed to many games where leveling is fast at first and slows down the higher you go, SWG feels like its the reverse. When I was lower CL it took forever to gain a box, as I climb up it becomes more and more trivial to gain a lower level box and the time for the higher level boxes becomes shorter as well. This is simply because the experience is not based on your skill level in a profession but on your CL level it seems. So I think newbies want it easier because they don't realize how easy it is at higher levels. Changing professions at CL80 is trivial by comparison to starting out fresh with a clean new character I think. Its an odd mechanism the way its programmed and seems to encourage the grinding mentality and mechanic.
Come on now, surely you're not suggesting that this is new? ![]()
I played from the start and then took a break and now I'm back, and as far as I've seen, this is the most common attitude among players. And it's in noooo way limited to the Jedi. I'd estimate that about 50% of all threads on these forums are complaints about being "forced" to do something in order to get something. ![]()
"Why do I have to shoot at stuff to get better at rifle?!"
"It's stupid that I need to craft to become a master crafter!!!!!"
"Why isn't every day a re-spec day?!"
"I logged in for the first time and I have NO master slots! I want my money back!!!!"
