question.
someone had dropped the shields then got killed..
me and my friend got there and rezzed and grouped him.
they both ran in and got killed. i managed to get into the commander and got him out safely and walked the looong haul back to the village..
around 400m from the village the commander guy died. saying he injested some toxins..
can anyone tell me what happened? why did he die?
I should have completed it.

I believe the commander is on a 2 hour timer from when the shield is lowered. When the two hours are up, he dies of the poison. 2 hours after the shields were lowered, and 20 minutes after his capture, the commander died of poisoning for me.

OK this is a very shiny happy post, so let me rain a bit. This is all fine and good. Sure you can exploit the poor AI and take a while running around hiding and picking them off one at a time. Heck, you can solo the corellian covette to blow the thing up without a buff, combat profession or weapon if you are patient and don't mind dying a bunch. The last I heard this game was considered a mmoRPG! The role playing and immursion aspect is just trashed when you run into guys that are in squads of five and ignore when the other guy is being shot in the head repeatedly... or wander off and get killed by themselves... or just follow the last guy to come close instead of protecting the target they have been assigned.
Sure there are exploits like crazy due to bad programming, reasonable limitations on rules, and just plain oversite. When the primary strategy for the high level players batting a character called thug, not boss, or master, super-god, or whatever is to run away and pick them off one at a time, we might as well be back to noobs with CDEFs.
So yeah, there is compaint about tough content, but the real complaint is about a game design that does not live up to the fundemental goals of any RPG game, advance a story line and provide a realistic getaway. You want to play a game with a unreasonable amount of uber baddies just to see, try battlegrounds, or jedi academy or unreal tournament or some game in duel mode. I want story driven content, that is consistent and somewhat relevant to each other. Not a middle mission that is a million times harder than the opening sith that non-combat folks can kill or even more difficult than the close of the phase. My consern is just how little thought and resoruces have gone into this after all. A good system yes. A great system would have had challenges based on your template throughout, with an opening quest of crafting, or medicine or specific weapon challenges, not some dude I can one shot befoer I realize they attacked, or on the other side need a lucky chance to be sure to take out. The end of the system also requires everyone to gather a posse that may have nothing to do with your base skill and kill a guy who scores of people before you have killed. At least be clever enough to have him escape certain death with a bad tag line at the end "You have fought well, young one, but I will not be vanquished by you!".
OK there, so I have thrown down my 2 credits. I am sure that now I know what happening, like every final fanatasy adventure before me, I can run right through it using the guild and no wits. Clever and excitement meter to zero, throttle grind to full again.

Well... just did it solo and found it easier since I had less to worry about (less tank healing). I also saw just as many thugs as when I was grouped on earlier attempts.
1. yes, you do have to kill 5... those who have not are at a base that someone has hit recently I think and caused a commander to spawn (I hit the base right at server reset).
2. special use AI seems not to be consistent across all thugs... one was consistently hitting mind for 1k+ (ran away from that one), while another only hit me with normal damage (100-200 per hit to random ham). So as a hint, if one seems too tough wait and pull another.
3. if possible, run in as soon as you turn off the shield to destroy the interior door and turret... then run away right quick to kill 5.
4. you can induce a good patrol spawn by coming from behind the base... the spawn I got was 100m away from the base entrance and coming from the opposite direction. Use this pause to get in and capture the commander. At this point use a mount pet to get out, then ride away (not gallop)... do not fire at the thugs!
I'm not the first to report the ability to solo this baby, but I'm a lowly rifleman... detail: M.rifle, Doc4442, Reflex4440, and Combat 4004 (now combat 4044... yay!). Just go with the general guide and you should be all set, remember to be patient.
Good luck!

This quest is a nightmare, me and a friend spent 10 hours on it, just so that I could die after sitting in the base for 2 hours trying to think of a way past the 11 Thugs that oddly remind me of Dark Jedi Masters with less HAM, considering the fact that they will beat up on me for about 3 seconds before I have to feign. I could spam UA3 on them for like 5 minutes with almost no damage. What pisses me off the most is the fact that both both phase 1 and 2 were a walk in the park, while phase 3 is like the difficulty of phase 1 and 2 combined times 20... My template is TKM/ Master Pistoleer, 0 0 1 0 Smuggler, and novice medic. I watched for hours as people tried to steal my commander for hours and got owned by the group of sith in front of the base. I saw a group of 5 (which included a Jedi Knight) run like little puppies with their tails between their legs... I can tolerate the grind, it's not that hard, just time consuming, but this phase 3 quest is just plain ridiculous. After combat balance I don't see anybody ever getting jedi, it won't be possible with reduced armor and buffs.

I have seen alot of great posts about what to do what not to do. These professions work sneak here wait there, sacrifice the shield downer to auto spawn the commander this mission is easy lol lol. I want to believe you people. I really do. But I have just spent everyday since the begining of phase 3 in groups of varried sizes and experience trying this mission over and over. They all ended the same way. In the clone station. You're all right, if you are patient and have the right tactics it should happen. We have been using those same tactics over and over - back to the clone station. Your all right if that random other group comes along at the right moment pulls off all the baddies you can run right in and grab him, or sacrifice thatother guy who is supposed to help you finish the mission it should happen.
Examples of Obi won from the movie aside I just want to point a few things out. We are not Jedi yet! The Captian says find someone to work with that has dropped the shield or can grab the commander, implying it can be done with just two. Tried it many times, back to the clones.Teamwork should not have to include one of you pulling all the bad guys away and laying down so they can stuff an apple in your mouth before they cook you! And a challenge is one thing but I have been hit for 3600 past my armor, past my buffs....pass the butter please they are sticking the apple in my mouth. Thats not a challenge, after five or six of em start shooting like that it's called a massacre. Good lord the best buffs I have seen ever were 2600+. Take into account still that other players that are trying to get a jedi charactor so they can have a combat charactor are the people who make your wpns, clothes and armor. They deserve the chance to wield a lightsabersame as you andI. I am a combat lover, but this is insane. We had healers and rezers with us doing nothing but keeping us alive. But even they cant stay alive if hit by shots @ 3600 damage multiple times.
I know it has been done. I have been shown the crystals and seen friends who opened the accuracy branch. So yes there is no denying it can be done. Please believe me. I am no noob, been here since launch and know what I am doing with my TKM HVy Swordsman Ranger. Using all the tactics suggested over and over again I have never come close to what you call easy. In the end this is a game, meant to be enjoyed by all that play. Not just the ones who find the loop holes, and can spend every waking hour playing. I am no longer enjoying myself. I pay to play. Not to get roasted over a spit no matter how hard I am trying. I have met so many others that are considering quitting because of this stummbling block or the inabillity to get out of it. Obviously it is too high difficulty, and something should be done to lower it and make it more plausable for those of us who cant make all these great tactics ( and dont get me wrong they are great tactics and suggestions) work for us. I hope those of you fortunates who beat it continue to help those who have'nt, and hope you dont look down on those of us who are still trying despite our lack of hope in the matter.

People who might think it's impossible may have seen what I saw.
I saw a base with 50 (COUNT THEM FIFTY!!) Thugs. They were cycling in several different groups - so there were always 20+ in front of the base.
I watched 3 people go in and die really quick. It was kind of funny.
Also you don't need to be Master Ranger/Master Rifleman to kill them - you have to be speed capped and have a BIG t21. I started shooting one when it went in, and he warped out on me before I killed him. (I'm not speed capped yet.)
I'm really supprised people aren't camping these thugs for loots. They drop nice stuff.

I have a stupid question. A friend asked me to do this wit him. We went to the village he taked to the guy and we went and killed the sith outlaws to get the remote. We returned to the village and he talkto a guy again to get the base. We headed there and with help pulled the sith one by one till we killed 5. He lowered the shields, we took out turrents and gates i slipped inside nad got the gate and into the tent, the commander spawned and I was not able to capture him. I got the option on the menu but it kept telling me i was not authorized. I either had to be the one that lowered the shield or groped with the person that did. I had always been grouped with the person that lowered the shield. We thought maybe he had to be next to us, so he slipped in and i still got the message you are not authorized. So finally he captured the commander, we walked him back and he comleted the quest. We were stilled gruped the entire time but i got nothing, not even the unlock.
So what did we do wrong?
Thanks

Well I've tried this 5 times today. Slaughtered like puppies the first 4 times wiht 50+ thugs camping the base and wasting anything that got close (and they did NOT despawn and respawn).
The 5th time we finally got the commander, and we made a bee-line for the village non-stop. The commander died exactly 30 minutes after we captured him, which happened to be about 700m from the village. What the hell is THAT!??!!! We went NON STOP and he died. So are there only certain bases to use for this then? Should we be ignoring any bases further than 3km to ensure he stays alive?
What's with 50+ thugs camping some bases and making them impossible?
How is it that Capt Sarg knows special frequency codes for shields on specific bases, but doesn't offer us one stinking clue where to find the base?
I love the creativity, the complexity in spirit of this quest, but let's get the damn thing working so people can spend 4 to 7 hours of FUN challenge and not 4 to 7 days of 12 hours per day pulling their hair out and wanting to toss their computer out the window.
