Part of the difficulty of the path is that isn't not all that fun. If it was a blast, everyone would do it.

Did I mention the ad I found for an XP grinding service that was charging $75 per 100 FS XP? That more than anything shows how insane the grind is.

That has to be wrong.I mean 4 boxes (1 branch) is (without Novice box) 1.225 mill FS XP. That would mean you will have to pay 918.750 $ for 4 boxes.... Now thats a number I'll prolly nevereven see at my ingame bank-account....

EDIT: miscalculation

SOE is not able to design a quest that would take 90 days to complete, just not possible. Plus there is no way you could make it as difficult as the grind, and yes, being difficult is part of the "challenge". Grind is the only way. It sucks, but hunker down and just do it.

Believe it or not, the second you make obtaining something easier, it instantly begins to suck.

I have no problem what-so-ever with the 30:1 conversion ratio - what bugs me more is the fact that I have to wait weeks on end unlocking FS trees that I have enough XP to attain. For instance, if you want alot of the combat oriented FS skillmods you'll basically need to wait 2 or more whole villagerotations. I believethe Village rotates questsevery 3 weeks or so and that would mean I'd have to wait some 12-24 weeks tobe able todo the Mellichae quest - provided I'd have the opputunity to obtain the required amount of Xp. If not Jedi would lie even further out in the future in the range of 6 months+ or so which, imho, is somewhat unfair for the casual player. Some people, determined as though they might be, will never experience the endgame, will never get the chance to live out the dream of being a Jedi simply because of a timelimit meant to hampen the uber grinders from being Jedi.

It's a good way of avoiding too many Jedi running around though, since alot of the Jedi players don't even try to play as one - ie. hiding from the law and such.

*Sigh*

Once again the casualplayer is left with the choice of getting the bubonic plague or being mutilated by sharks.

Please read this entire note before turning red and exploding.

I see people complaining everywhere about the 30:1 ratio being a problem, being a ridiculous ratio, etc.

But it is NOT a ridiculous ratio... it is just a way to slow down the masses of people that want to become Jedi immediately.

I am only halfway through the grind, am NOT having fun, but I also don't want to see everyone get Jedi with only 2 or 3 weeks of grinding.

The real problem is the ridiculous "kill grind" method of becoming Jedi.

People should be more displeasedthat the only way for a combat character to become Jedi is to go out and kill, kill, kill, kill.. then kill some more. The ratio is just a controlthat is used to slow down this method. But if the pathto become Jedi was actuallyFUN, then we wouldn't care so much how long thepath was.

In my opinion, the real way to Jedi SHOULD have been a series (possibly a LONG series) of quests. Imagine the Sarquillo quest to bring back the base commander as one such quest. It was tough, but doable with a little thinking. Or the Mellichae exit quest as another. Imagine a series of such quests, each one different, but each one difficult. And I don't mean questslike the Rebel Theme Park... that was the most long-lasting boring series of crap I ever went through. What I mean isvarious missions where a little thinking is required.

I think the Devs replaced one crappy system (holo-grinding) with another and we're stuck with it.

But no matter what system was (or is) put in place, it should NOT be "grind for 2 or 3 weeks and *poof* you're a Jedi".

Sigh... unfortunately I think the dev's idea of this were the badges required to start force sensitive...

Got the edit done right this time!

I agree fully. I finished the FS village using the 30 : 1 ratio. I didnt find it hard at all. Wanna see hard wait till you attack at the speed of a novice brawler and then once you get alot of XP for some odd reason you get vis. and a BH kills you and you lose it all. Im a few weeks away from master sabers now and all i can say is keep on grinding. The rewards that come afterward are awesome.. Defence stackers are gonna get hit with the nerf stick soon enough with the combat upgrade and jedi will be eliteonce again!

Sorry mauler05, i dont mean to bad mouth BH's at all. The reason they are in game is to make us lose xp. Just putting a point across.

Everyone is always complaining about something..lol

I think jedi should be as common as a TKA... which at the moment is like everywhere..

reason being... I play the game to be what I want to be.. If some n00b jedi wants to wave his saber at everyone to show off.. then he needs whats comming to him.. other people would just like to have the honor of being one...

Of course Jedi was on my mind when i bought the game.. but I was ready for the wait.. and now only one phase seperates me from

what I have always wanted.. JEDI!!

Alot of folks will say to go play KOTOR or JEDI OUTCAST, but in truth you don't get the freedom to do what you want...

I dont want to play a jedi

I want to LIVE it...

I do have to agree with alot of you in saying there should of been some long quests to take to become a jedi.. the level of difficulty though I dont think should be extreme.. just a long quest.. something to bring the player into reading what the npc actually says.

Alot of time I just assume kill somthing and skip what he/she is saying..

anyway, i'll stop blabbing...

/cheers

Here's the facts people, it's not supposed to be a grind. That's the whole point that everybody is missing. Everybody just has their eyes set on the glowy lightsaber and all they want to do is grind that XP as quickly as possible in order to achieve it. The main feature of this new system is that you don't have to level every profession in the game in order to unlock. You don't have to start at n00b level 32 times before you get Jedi.

What the developers created was a system that would allow you to use your XP from everyday gameplay in order to work towards Jedi. Along with this, they provided a somewhat interesting storyline with quests that provided ways to get XP, Loot, and have some fun. Anybody who has participated in the combat quests for phase III and IV can't deny that they had a fun times doing them.

I've already got a Jedi. I leveled all 32 professions before the changes. It sucked. I currently have my main in the village so I can get some of the FS combat boxes for him. I've been doing the quests and turning in my XP. To be honest, I wish I could have gotten Jedi this way. I'll go out to the Krayt Graveyard and start killing the spawns to open up spawn zones for Krayts. While working towards the objective of hunting Krayts, I will easily cap on Rifles XP while not even trying. If I go to run missions for credits, or just to harvest creature resources, I cap pretty fast without even trying. If I go on base raids or visit POIs, I cap pretty fast without even trying. The system that is in the game now provides you with the ability to go participate in all the other content in the game WHILE WORKING TOWARDS JEDI AT THE SAME TIME!! I wish it could have been that way for me. All I did was disappear into my little corner and level my professions. The fastest way to do it was alone most of the time. It wasn't fun, and the only objective I was accomplishing was getting that master box just so I could drop it and work for another.

The only complaints I have with the village are the crafting quests and crafting trees. I'm trying to get FS crafting skills on Jrock and I realize it's going to take forever. I think I calculated the other day that I was going to have to craft 50,000 Ubese shirts to get one full tree of FS crafting skills. I'm gathering the resources to start it soon, but it's going to take a very long time to accomplish and I'm going to have to do things that I wouldn't otherwise do to gain the XP. I can't really go about my normal day as I always make my armor in factories and I'm pretty sure that UXP is broken for Amorsmith. The quests are also difficult in that they are dependant on the other classes to provide the needed materials and the materials are sometimes scarce (second phase especially).
