Thread: Free unlocks?

Has anyone got more detailed info on how the free unlocks work? Ive read a little in the FAQ post but would like to know what you have experienced personally about this.
Also, does the Old Fart need a server reset to visit you?
thanks
The following link which is an advance players guide on this site will tell you about the history of the old system and what you need exactly to qualify for free unlocks:

The free unlocks were a gift for those who hologrinded, you cant get them now if you didnt hologrind during the days before publish 9.
You get 1 free unlock for every stage you were along your 4 holo + 4 silent profession path to reach your natural unlock after your second holo professions (basically, if you just did your holo professions and didnt do any silent ones, you should get 2 free unlocks, each silent you discovered provided you an extra free unlock)
Just wanted to say that the unlocks actually are not a gift......you actually had to work and grind to find those hidden professions you got credit for....whether you used a holo or not....you worked to grind that profession(s). So technically, they are not free unlocks....that's just what people started calling it because with the new system it seemed as though you didn't have to do anything to get them....when you actually paid the dues before pub 10 and just got credit after pub 10.....maybe a little nit picky but hey, it is what it is. ![]()

/agree
Free unlocks are a reward for those who grinded there buts off and did not get a Jedi pre pub 9. I have friends that master 20 professions, and did not unlock.

consider yourself very unlucky....just because you didn't get any unlocks and worked your butt off doesn't mean that the unlocks are free.it's not like people who didn't master hidden professions got unlocks. Simply put, if you do not find and grind the hidden professions, you don't get any unlocks. If you did 20 professions and none of them were the hidden professions....you still don't get any unlocks but your just really really really unlucky.
Fact is, a freebie is something you get for doing absolutely nothing towards acquiring it. To get unlocks, you have to work towards mastering the right professions.....that is the price you pay and the reward is that you get unlocks and don't have to grind the 1.25 million or sofs xp (which by the way is about a minimum of capping an elite profession 22 times to get the xp to convert to fs xp).

However, I also beleive that they are being called free unlocks because few people such as those who wrote the Guides, tested the system when the revamp was in bata on the test server, and are correspondents are setting the tone for it. Therefore, everyone is associating "earned credit" which is what it is really called with the term "free unlocks". I took and quoted the following from one of the FS guides posted in this forum:
"To get a free unlock, you must talk to Paemos, who offers any free unlocks you might have. He will unlock the branch of your choice, and allocate enough xp to master that branch. Training is provided by Noldan."
"Remember: Unlock ONE free branch at a time, train it, then return for another free branch."

I used this as an example because this is clearly what I'm making my point about. I also hope that the author takes no offense because that is not my intent. (Also, you couldn't miss it because it's written in big bold red colors)
It's actually no one's fault because it's relative an easy mistake to make especially when your writing something. I would suggest that for those which have more experience with the Jedi quest, etc.. to re-evaluate some of the dialog that is written in the guide. If changes are to be affective, it is logical that this should be the starting point.

Is 22 times definatly the right number?!?! Thinking about it THAT way, the grind doesn't seem so bad at all.
