Thread: i think make it 5 elite professions or so to get old man

Please don't make the mistake of equating Combat Level with in-game experience. Its all too easy to do that. My Character is current CL33 - so I have been around for a short while only right? Actually I have mastered at various times (some admittedly via respec): Droid Engineer (ground), Artisan(ground), Merchant(ground, twice), Bounty Hunter(respec), Rifleman(ground, about to grind again), Carbineer(ground), Musician(ground, also ground on another server but not all the way yet), Entertainer(ground, also ground on another server), Shipright(respec), Creature Handler(respec), Ranger(respec and dropped in a few hours, poor rangers), Scout(ground), Doctor(ground, regrinding now), Marksman(ground, twice) and Weaponsmith(ground). Most recently I was a Weaponsmith/Merchant and CL1 as a result, then I discovered I could finish the FS quests via the newbie quests so I did that. Previously I had done all the content and quests up to the 2 Warren Quests while I was a BH/Carbineer - but the Warrens were so laggy (2 mins to move 10 feet) on my system I had given up and taken up crafting again. The newbie quests let me finish the requirements, I got the Old Man, got help in dealing with the Siths (because I was only CL17 at that point, had started working my way back up the CL levels) and now I am MWeaponsmith/Merchant 3013/Marksman 1004/Doctor 4103 and about to drop Weaponsmith as I go to CL80 again.
Not everyone who plays the game immediately goes for a Combat Profession so they don't immediately gain in CL. In fact the crafting game is far far superior to the combat system which frankly sucks in my opinion, although the CU made it a bit better I think, I didn't do much combat pre-CU.
You should have asked the CL15 "newb" if he had done the Mayor of Mos Eisley newbie quests, and sent him that way if he hadn't.
Now, I agree, I expect people to try to do it themselves and be prepared which is why I am about to drop Master Weaponsmith (despite selling my BARC and spending the 6m credits grinding it and getting my business set up) and go regain my CL80 status to let me do the FS quests and grind the experience required. Its why I am going to regain MBH to facilitate that, and once I am done and have passed my Padawan trials, I am either going to return to crafting (most likely option) or carry on to Jedi (much less likely). Either way I will have the alt which is the real prize to a Altaholic like myself
You see this all the time in MMORPGs, where people mentally equate character level with game experience and its simply not a viable assumption. The "newb" you meet on the streets of Mos Eisley may well have been playing since release, hologround their Jedi way back when, etc but have done it all on another server. The only measure of newbie status to my mind is asking really stupid and obvious questions that even a returning player should know the answers to

Hmm. I like this idea, but not necessarily the 5 elite professions part. As is, getting glowy is something that can happen super fast, and it would spice it up, as it were, to make it proffession oriented, rather than POI oriented. Maybe a mastery of each of the starting proffessions, in the order of your choosing, with a final masterty in 1 elite proffession would be fair. That would give newbs a basic understanding of the different sides of the game, then they could masteran elite proffession that leads from the starting proffesion that they liked best after trying them all out. Hmmm... Yeh, that would make a good new requirment for glowing:
Master all of the standard proffessions in the order of your choosing
Master 1 elite proffession
Complete 2 theme parks(your faction's and Jabba's or Nyms, or just Jabba's and Nyms if ur nuetral)
Visit all the Jedi POIs.
Bam, FS. That sounds pretty good. No badge grinding, just a few important ones, w/ the proffesions being the main part of becomming FS.

Let me guess everyone here who has agree, probably has opened thier FS slot. Ok how about they do this but erase everyones FS slot first, and lets start fresh.
I agree with this and yes I have already opened my FS slot, but I would be happy to start afresh if they made it harder to get glowie as, for me, the work involved in getting there is part of the fun.
Why not combine the quest andprofession routes. To get glowie we should have to master3 different eliteproffesions (1crafter, 1entertainer amd 1 combat) and then for each one complete a relative themepark for a content badge, forcingyou to not only master the proffesion but really learn it toget the badge.
I also think that the 'getting glowie' stage should be time based in the same way as the force sensitive phases. eg. you could only complete 1 content badge every x weeks. This would let new players experience other parts of the game while they wait for the nextcontent phase.
Seriously, this game needs less grinding, not more.
I didn't participate in the hologrind because I hate grinding. When they first introduced the Village and FS quests I was thrilled. Then I realized how much grinding was involved in that. The devs just replaced the profession grind with the FS grind. I'm not going to lie to anyone. Grinding mindlessly is stupid and not fun. We need an immersive quest based system that does not involve mindless grinding but still takes a fair bit of time to complete.
Agreed...but its not much more than you need already. Granted you can get glowy with Master Artisan but to make any REAL headway you need to be CL75 and above. Master Artisan is not going to defeat the waves of thugs that begin with glowy or most of the quests in fact. Most glowies need double elite master to succeed so learning 2 or 3 more will achieve very little. As a previous poster said - you can grind elites in 6 hours....just another time delay.
The ONLY way the FS will prosper is by making the questsa LOT more involving and difficult. Sure keep the xp requirements and the 3 week gaiting of each phase but make the unlocks hard and varied. Driving around in 10k circles 10 times (or 20 for a banner) is just an example of the weak ideas involved. Devs have to realize that simply making it long and boring will not deter a lot of people.
Once you foster the idea that going to the village every 3 weeks doesn't necessarily mean that you will succeed in an unlock you will start to reduce the new Jedi population. Reward gifted gamers not patient ones. Plain and simple.
