The offical reason is. Hire rate = longer grind = More money in SOE's coffers.

YOUR A PAWN FOR THEIR GREED

You're kidding right? Even with thechanged conversion rate you can very easily outpace the village changes playing casually. ie, have the XP banked for the next phase before it even changes.

Does the change suck? Sure. Does it increase the time it takes to finish the XP requirements? Yes. Does it increase it past the 3 week phase change? No.

I have to agree with what has been said. About two weeks ago I set up a teamspeak server for the guild I am in, a total godsend. We have about 6 people at a time on there everyday, sometimes more, and it is this interactionwith the people I enjoy talking to that keeps me going through the grinding. Chatting witha group that is constantly switching players (as people login and out), is by no means a community building experience, but more of a way to pass the immediate time whilst trying to get enough xp to unlock, and then participate in the thingsyou doenjoy. When trying to get my group to work as a team, I have actually been told to "shut the f*** up" for talking too much; a bit disheartening.

The things I enjoy don't involve grinding, even though there is a sense of achievement when gaining a new skill, or unlocking a new box,it'smore the spending time with my friends to complete missions/revampour city/space cruising aboard our nova courierand suchlike; "working for a common purpose", to quote from earlier. I understand that the game needs grinding, but to increase it further can only be detrimental to the community. Whether you're an avid player or a casual one, you must be able to see this is not an excuse who peoplethat do not want to grind make, but rather a hope in conveying that this is surely the wrong wayto increase the difficulty inunlocking Jedi.

Keep the community feel, in good times orbad.

"Once someone has decided they are going to follow the bol-strewn path to becoming Jedi they are hardly likely to spend 18 weeks (minimum) unlocking the FS lines they wish to use and only then start collecting XP. As we have seen, what happens is that people grind and grind to convert the xp so that when they unlock a branch they can complete it then and there."

So?Don't whine about the xp changes if you are so unwilling to be patient until SOE comes back with another double xp week. You and I both know how this company works, its only a matter of weeks before they do something to completely negate this decision they have made concerning xp conversion. They go back and forth on things with each patch, so if you just wait it out awhile and do other things (you have to wait on the phases anyway) then I would be very suprised to see this xp changes last.

Also, not everyone grinds xp all day and night, some people play the game and have fun doing other things while waiting on their Jedi.Grinding xp only becomes a grind when the players does it non stop, so my advice is to take breaks and do other things in the game for the time being until SOE happily reverses their decisions once again.

"This change to XP conversion rates will slow down people that are grinding for jedi, but I would argue that it is now more likely that people will remove themselves from any community activity as they will be filling every single moment trying to max xp/hour. This is what happened in hologrind - no interaction beyond what was necessary to complete the next prof on the list."

Again, your speaking from your own perspective rather than the player majority. I myself am not going to beat myself up and grind all day and night to bank all of my xp. I am going to do it gradually as my character advances through his phases and gets closer to the padawan trials. Its not like you are forced to bank up all your xp in one standard galactic week, nor is it anyone elses fault that you treat it that way.

Try enjoying other parts of the game, and if other parts of the game are simply not enjoyable for you, try making another character. If thats no fun, then take a break from the game while you are waiting and enjoy your real life a bit. I understand you play casually, but so do many of us, this change has hurt everyone and its only a matter of time before SOE changes it again. So my advice is to stop your perma grind and be patient.

Actually I was trying to open a discussion as to whether, if people agree that new jedi must be slowed down, it was preferred to increase XP requirements - meaning a bigger grind or to gate progress to slow things down. You want to take that as a whine? Fine, knock yourself out, as long as we are discussing things that's ok with me.

Well of course I am. How can I speak for the player base? I do not know them, I have no mandate from them, I can only speak from my perspective. I know I can be arrogant at times, but I would hope I am not that arrogant :-P
