Thread: New XP conversion rates just mean more mindless gameplay

You guys need to stop being selfish and admit that something had to be done. It was was too easy to become Jedi period! Where did the devs promise that Jedi was just within reach? I have been on these forums since waaay before launch and I always read the path to Jedi would be HARD....I am sick of noobs joining the game late and thinking they deserve to become a Jedi in 5 months. It should take much longer.

I am still waiting for the devs to do something about all of the very visible Jedi in the major cities. Clearly the BHs are not powerful enough to do much about the Knights so we need some uber NPC Jedi masters roaming and purging the repeat offenders who consantly show off in the major cities. And those people should lose boxes and they lose xp from being killed.

You're missing the whole point here, something had to be done, but nerfing the combat xp which griefs the people grinding using weapons and not grenades, is not the way to go about it. It would be better, more interesting and fun to be able to do more different varying types of missions to get FS XP from the village, than the long boring dull round trips to whichever planet you get your missions from to get your standard XP, even if it meant the time taken to get to melicahe is 10x longer than the current system, especially if you get rewards/loot which you can only get from these imaginary village quests, it makes it all worthwhile, but with the devs changing the goal posts all the time, and making it harder to the point of wanting to quit, makes all that time grinding a waste of time, but if you got different rewards from it, even if it took longer to do, it would be more rewarding in itself to do.

ALso the FS shouldn't be hard as its the only way to get a 2nd slot. Jedi is easier to grind than the FS way, and it should be the other way round.

You're out of time, SOE The whole 2.5 months shouldn't have been. The game was fine up until Nov 15th. If the CU was worked on, instead of devoting time to the NGE (including the many months prior to November), the game could possibly be totally bug free by now.

My account cancels on 2nd Feb, which was a waste as only played game for 1 day to get the life day gifts, will be resubbing when creature handler, Bio-engineer, scout, and ranger return, oh and the FS village.

The combat upgrade cost me about 60% of my guild. This is likely to cost me a few more. People do not enjoy the forced grouping, People hate having to be 'LFG' all the time. People want other things to do than just the mindless grinding.

Yes, there will be less new jedi due to this change. Simply for the reason that people are burning out, and cancelling their accounts. I highly doubt that this is a good thing, either for the game or for the player community.

And SOE: better believe there will be yet another bad backlash for this. You cannot market your product by promising jedi is within anyone's reach, and then make the entire proces of getting there so unenjoyable people quit.

Linna

There will be less Jedi because there will be fewer players. You're right though, most of my guild can't take more than a month or two of grinding before they go off to play another game for a few months, then come back.

It is extremely Tough Times for SW:G. Though I don't think SOE sees that, because most of the players I know keep their accounts active. But the servers are pretty empty if you go anywhere besides Theed/Coronet/Kash/Dantooine.

It makes finding a decent group nearly impossible.

The thing that gets me about this nerf is that they make the fs village grind so much longer, while at the same time lowering the difficulty in getting fs... Makes so little sense. I miss the fact that getting fs used to actually mean something. Not anymore...now any nooblet can get fs in a couple of days.

And people who want less jedi are just ignoring the facts that 1)everyone else pays to play this game too and should be allowed to gain any profession they chose with the work put in 2) THERE IS NO TIMELINE TO THIS GAME AND HASN'T BEEN FOR A LONG TIME...you are flying clone era ships and expect somehow we are still in the ESB era...we are not, so get over that thought process, please.

Bottom line is...it doesnt matter if 100% of the players get jedi. They will still have a free toon which they will make into their crafter or other profession they love. Me personally will make my alt up to speed before I start my jedi grind.

I totally agree that the grind to jedi should take long....

I totally have no problem with that when i see it from that direction (and i have only just unlocked the first FS box)

But when i see it from the side that i am doing this just so i can have a crafter alt, to my main combat character, it seriously hurts my interest in playing. I love to spend hours designing my house, market and make stuff i can sell. But i can't, because i had to drop all my crafting skill just to be able to kill the sith guys.

I still think it's ok they nerfed the combat xp.... but they should be working on another way to unlock your second slot.

The SoE code :
SOE improvement is a lie, there is only nerfing.
Through nerfing, they gain whines.
Through whines, you gain gankings.
Gankings, leads to sploits.
Sploits leads to banning.
And banning sets us free.

I say maybe after being around for a set of all 4 phases (just doing the quests for them, 1 each phase, without training up the line) should be enough to unlock a 2nd character slot. Not only does this help people that want their 2nd character which i'm sure everyone would want (why not? start your own business and help the economy!), but it also gives the FS grinders some incentive or at least feeling of accomplishment, other than "WEE!!! My melee speed went up 3 POINTS!!! :ulls out pre-nerf DE-10 to continue his grind:: I feel it already!"

Thats just my idea though =P 1 round of the villiage, you get your 2nd slot. I know a LOT of people doing the villiage just for their slot they should have had anyway. This would definitly make the playerbase much happier.

The ultimate prob here is in the simple fact that it is to easy to get a max template with any regular char. It is way to simple to max any player temp even if you are a casual gamer. Once you hit CL 80 youll find that SWGs second major prob is lack of content. Since it is entirely too short a grind for regular profs and once you get your maxed template there is not enough high end content, what is left you ask?

Jedi is whats left to try! It is the last bit of content for those who have been a max template of any other kind.

So what happens when people try to get a Jedi? THEY BIT@$ AND MOAN because they couldn't get a max template jedi as fast as the other profs. So now they demand that it be given to them and when SOE tries to slow it down they bit@$ some more. I havent played every MMO out there but I have played a lot of them and I can tell you that it takes A LOT LONGER in other games to get a maxed out character. Just cuz you got your regular profs so easy doesn't mean it should be the same to get a jedi.

This game needs to be harder during the regular prof grind, and it needs at least double the content. In what other games do mid level chars get to group with maxed out chars and get basically the same exp with little risk? NONE

Ive been working towards jedi since hologrinding. Im finally there. I dont play more than 4 hours a week so I understand the casual gamers grief with this. Make becoming jedi fun and quest driven to til the end. Mindlessly grinding more critters does not make for a better system. I bet Luke would even say screw that, if Obi goes......go kill 200 billion bols and come back and Ill train you in the ways of the force. They need to make instant missions that will actually prepare you as a problem solver/combatant/healer and such to slowly introduce you to the force and actually earn your jedi and at the same time become more knowledgable about the force. While doing these mission along the way you will come to a crossroads where you go one of two directions....light or dark force weilder. See, this is why people are mad, not because of more grinding but because they make changes that offer no content...just more of a time sink. We want to enjoy this game and feel we are becoming jedi.

Just curious on how you know it is "working as intended". You must be an employee or consultant. Are you a SOE board member, or a SOE Product Design/Developer, Q/A or someone in the R&D department?

As a casual gamer (three kids, FTJob) with one branch left, I'm bummed.

I would really like to do other content in the game other than grind continually.
