In a perfect world i do agree with ya, it would be cool to have a set of qests and action depending on prof's and race to lead into jedi and i also i agree jedi should be more than a macro grinder like myself (being honest here) and nade thowers and getting unlocked should be more than getting an email telling ya what to do..

But face it, the facts are if somebody payed attention to what they did and send his buddy's emails on how he became FS you would havehundreds of players creating a toon with that race and prof.

People have a want it and want now attitude and im no different and ive said it before and ill say it agian SWG is a game inspired by the star wars thingy but theres a million things that are different so what happen in the movies doesnt happen here! example when your on a speeder bike and hit a tree you die in the movies here you just get stuck.and so the timeline for GWC really dosnt matter its just a game and not to mention movies cause i hate that in episode II jedis where like high raking officers for the republic army so the religion thingy only goes so far! but like i said i hate to bring that up cause the movies are movies and a game is a game....

Wooow, there has been nearly a week or two since I started this thread, and didnt thought it was to become this.

Still... the Jedi Becoming should be an enlightment path, not an absolute onslaught to kill and destroy everything its on sight, just to exchange that experience with the help of a rodian, later on to be skilled and teached the ways of the Force by a mon-calamarian at a remote and distant point in the most dangerous place available: Dathomir.

Yes friends and foes alike... But the grinding its going to decay after combat upgrade, since players wont be as armored, and much more concerned on self preservation.. and not anymore form large group to get high level missions to kill giant baz nitch, and do that mission on a solo basis for greater experience, tossing at the poor things lair, grenades that would kill anyone if they were naked or less armored.

Yes, Jedi are going to have it harder right now after Combat upgrade, but for how long?. How long will it take to the grinders, to the main people wanting to become a Jedi, to design a new system to get the experience?. How long would it take them, to bend the new system to their will?. How long?. Six months?. And then what?. Another Combat Upgrade?.

I guess all the Jedi Becoming should be redesigned, and until then, the Jedi becoming should be disabled. Current Jedi Player-base wouldnt be affected, because they are Jedi (knights, padawans and the myth of the Jedi Master (or Sith)). And then people will go their own way, making their lives and enjoying this great game: Star Wars Galaxies.

What would become of the Current Jedi Player-base?. They will become more attentive, they will payattention to what they do and how they do it, or appear at a Bounty-Hunter terminal, and be hunted like game. After all, if a Jedi or Dark Jedi (padawan, knight or whatever), ever appears at the terminal it is because he has committed a fault (killing humanoid creatures for example).

And then there would be a real good Jedi player base, roleplaying in most cases their characters. And for bounty-hunters, they will hunt more common people, because the Jedi have been thinned, being the only bounty-hunters that remain the ones that want to really be a Bounty-Hunter, as a friend said, a wolf among the sheep.

In the galaxy of Star Wars, not every one was a Jedi. Jedi were recruited in Childhood (in most good cases), and trained to become a padawan some day, in the ways of the Force. The rest of the people didnt committed suicide because knowing that the force wasnt with them... they lived their lives. Numerous adventurers, such as the famed Han Solo, or Chewbacca, made a profit as Smugglers, and the Stars their home, carrying whatever someone important could pay for. Others joined the Rebel Alliance, and some others, attracted by its might, The Empire.

So, the thing is. StarWarsGalaxies should have a random system to become a Jedi, always different from one person to another. If SOE has made Jedi available for everyone, it is because, the lure of becoming a Jedi, of becoming a champion of good, or an avenger of evil,, it is really attractive.

May The Force be with you,

Txaosh Onay.

PD

By the way, i am force sensitive, but i dont want to become a Jedi, at least not this way.

The original (never worked) quest system, was perfect. The holo grind was the worst idea I could have imagined, and believe me when I tell you it was not fun. The village is better, in every respect, but has much room for improvement. Mindless grinding proves nothing, and is not fun. Maybe they’re warming up the FS group for the even more mind numbing Jedi grind, lol.

Jedi always will be main attraction of the game. So,the only dev interest is to make it longer to achieve. The longer the path to jedi, the longer players stay in the game. They don't really care about the path it self, so grinding is the easiest method for them with less programming and design effort than mission or storyline based system. But they make jedi always achievable to make everyone try. And they can concentrate more of their workforce to design and coding for stuff that make more money like expansions and may be CU to try to invite other MMORPG fans by offering similiar gameplay. If u think like business man this is a right thing to do, but if u think like a gamer well it's your choice. For my self i amnot happy. But it does not make me to quit the game. So, SOE is winning.

I am currently doing the grind and will unlock at weekend BUT the old way was still a grind. you grind professions instead. I think the unlock should be a time based thing and uses badges etc, say a user cant be a jedi in the first 6 months and a night within a year. I do like the quest ideas but i think it needs to be all put together in one (badges, quests , time frame, etc) less grinding and mroe playing

THIS i agree 100% with. Make jedi quest based without having to sit and grind all day.....and make it so vets only are jedi. The grind that controls populationswill begin when you get padawan and start to climb towards knight.

I feel like SOE has screwed me so many times. I didn't do the holo grind because I felt like it was a pointless waste of time. My friends all unlocked within 12 professions, so when I did start grinding 12 RANDOM professions, before christmas holos I figured I'd unlock around that same number. Only later did I realize sony cheated the system and raised the count secretly. So now we are at the village, I don't believe changing my template to grind FSbefore i'm ready was the way to go,so I figured I'd wait until phase 1 rolls around again andI get my last tree unlocked.

Then I would get commando 4-0-0-0 and just pound it out at my own pacewithout having my pvpaffected while I waited for my 6 phases. Now again SOE seems like they are going to screw me again, an almost 2 year vet., just trying to enjoy the game. I want jedi bad but the ways of attaining it are not fun. Instead I try to play the game the way it is mean to be played and have probally experienced more unique things with friends in game than n00b grinders (sorry if I offended anyone but it is the truth....I hear of guys who get the game a buddy helps them get glowy and bam they are Jedi within 6 phases). I just don't think it is right that the system really doesnt reward the vets with a gift as Jedi padawan after hell even make it 2 years....instead I get a frigin' anti decay kit. Sorry I just had to leave this off my chest.

On a side note I don't know why they just dont do that...to me it makes economical sence(sp?) If people know they can't get jedi for 1.5 - 2 years they will keep their accounts that long....raking in the dough for SOE and making more players happy. Yes there may be a surge of jedi at first, but the week light hearted ones will die off and let the strong survive. Just my 2 cents.

Awesome post. I think I'm in the exact sameboat as you.

I can't believe it when people post things like "Hey it's a grind, get used to it... can you think of anything better?" I was on these boards before the game even came out and I'veread pages and pages of ideas for becoming a Jedi that would have been 100 times better then the grinding garbage they give us. I've always wanted to be a Jedi in this game but I've never been able to stomach the grind. It's not fun.

the WAITING is long and discourageous.. the grindning... 2 days... worht is all you need

keep the Waiting yes.. but change it so its actually a challange... and not just "making the grind supa hard" no... make it quests...

Jedi were handled wrong from the start. There should be a dev playing the role of a Jedi Master maybe even two (Light and Dark). Give unique trials and quests with at least enough variation to make Jedi FAQs obsolete. The grind should be player side, not character side. As in none of this Jedi XP stuff, you simply pass the trials/quests as dispatched by your Master. Failure would move you backwards.

Remove the Jedi from the game or the GCW, there is no other option.

I have two things to say about this.
First off grinding isn't horrible. FSgrind is horrible. The easy thing to do if you are trying to limit the amount of Jedi on any server is to make the skill box requirements so high that it takes a long time (in comparison to other proffessions) to achieve. The problem with this being all "StarWarsie" like they claim they are trying to make is that it's not about killing a lot of stuff to make you more in tune with the force. It should be similar to what you had to do to get the first visit from the old man. There should be quests that progress in difficulty. It should be about honing the force you have just reciently began to realize. And you don't do that by killing an entire planet 7 times over of GBN on Dath. (as has been said in a previous post). Progressively harder quests. There should not be a time limit on jedi only an incredibly long list of quests and missions that lead to an acute sense of the force. The hologrind might seem better but I think It would have sucked to from all the posts i read about it. Its still grinding xp. If they want to keep people from being jedi so we don't over populate the servers with jedi then they need to think about putting restrictions on the game. First of all Jedi's were limited in there activity in respect to Wars. They were keepers of the peace not soldiers. They were wise more than they were powerful. And they were definately not hunted by freaking bounty hunters.OMG. But given the current game there are a lot of inconsistencies with what is really star wars content. So maybe that is for a different discussion.

Secondly, Like most people know workers tend to respect one of their own more than they respect executives. This is a simple example RL situation. They respect the manager who was once one of them because the manager knows what the common worker goes through. Their plight if you will. So if we had some Dev's that were Jedi Masters then they might see that the problems we report aren't just exaggerated or emotional. That the problems are real and deeply affect game play from the perspective of a jedi or jedi-hopeful.

If they do have Dev's that play the game at that kind of level then I don't know what to say about this subject.

Ok, lets say.. lets get glowie.

I work for Jabba the Hutt, also for Nym the Pirate, and join the Rebel Alliance or the Almighty Empire and do their theme packs.

Then I go to the warren and uncover the secrets within.

After I go to the librarian (was in Naboo?), and answer all his/her questions about the galaxy.

Then I Visit the Points of Interest in Tatooine, Corellia, Naboo (the newbie planets), Dantooine, Endor, Lok and Dathomir.

And then, one day, i sense that my search was successful i become aware of the reality that is, I become aware of the Force, and get with the /checkforcestatus command, the message, '' The Force is with you ''.

Days after, i get visitted by an envoy of the light Jedi, and a planet unlocked lets say the planet in which Luke Skywalker was trained by Yoda,, the planet Dagobah. If I deny him/her, days later, an envoy of the dark Jedi, visits me, and intimidates me to visit the planet home to Darth Sidious, and capital to the Empire, the planet Coruscant.

Those planets, all have missions to be done, and experience to be accumulated. And through this path of enlightment, you learn the ways of the Light Jedi (in case of Dagobah), or the ways of the Dark Jedi (in case of Coruscant).

One day, after many missions and quest, you get to padawan. You enter the Light or Dark Jedi Councils, and you are assigned risky missions, such as taking care of a protegee (in case of Light Side) and escolt him/her to another planet and some coordinates, or assasination missions, in which you get to kill a prominent politician that its getting in the way of the Sith, and after that you get into the Bounty-Hunter Terminals (for such a traacherous kill), and if you survive them, you get to knight, because you are worth the bother. (in both quests, you could be pk'ed by other side Jedi or tracked by bounty-hunters)

This is an example of what I see it best addapts or best come close to a way of Enlightment towards your cause.

Thanks.

/Agree, As devs I don't think they take into account the fact that this game will continue to lose members, (it really ramps up in MMOs after the third expansion) meaning most of us don't have months to grind BEFORE we even get Jedi. I've been around since launch and find it very frustrating that when I started to do professions they changed the system once I hit my 14th. Now the CU is going to totally screw this Village grinding system.

At the very least they are going to have to turn the ratios of xp conversion down to scale to the new CU. I, and others I know won't spend six months grinding just to GET Jedi. That's ridiculous, as players do you really think this game is going to last forever? MMOs have more competition than ever before and it's only going to get worse as the years go by.

And on a second note, as a veteran without a Jedi it's very frustrating to see the people that had to grind around 8-12 professions, sitting pretty at Jedi Sentinel, and 10x more frustrating to see n00bs there. I put in tons of time in this game, just not grinding for Jedi 24/7, and I've definitely put tons of money into this game. Meanwhile I can't even PvP for fun anymore without getting ganked by a group of Jedi Knights. This is BS.
