I guess SOE messed all this thing up with the xp grinding to become Jedi.

Jedi becoming should be a way of awakening the slumbered force in our own characters, not the grinding path of a lifeless dummy, just sitting right there in front of the computer, grinding xp...

The other way was good, the way of the holocrons. I know, people had many of them in storage and sold them in high prices. Holocrons should be obtained as a prize for a group of quests, maybe initiated in the village of aurilia. Holocrons also should be non tradeable, so people wouldnt make a profit out of them. Also they should be a rare loot, only dropped by NightSisters and force sensitives npc's every once in a great while.

But SOE didnt like the way that George Lucas had in mind, that jedi would become such, as a way after many skilled jobs (note that anakim skywalker was a slave and fringer, and luke skywalker, was a moss-farmer)

Palpatine was a Politician, and people had other roles than going out there and killing chickens (giant baz nitchs), with thermal detonators, or grenades if you are not a commando and for so, unskilled.

The think of this flame is, I pay for playing, not for enslaving myself and chaining to a computer. There are many other things in life, many that you Jedi wannabes are missing.

And when you might consider this, maybe then, it would be too late.

Agreed...

This has nothing about being a jedi to be... Luke didnt get trained by running around and killing everything on sight...

Old way was better.. Agreed. But could be a better system anyway..

Disagree with old and new system lol
I am currently doing the grind and will unlock at weekend BUT the old way was still a grind. you grind professions instead. I think the unlock should be a time based thing and uses badges etc, say a user cant be a jedi in the first 6 months and a night within a year. I do like the quest ideas but i think it needs to be all put together in one (badges, quests , time frame, etc) less grinding and mroe playing

But indeed, we are focusing on reaching a level of enlightment and a level of understanding of life and what should beto become a jedi. As a force sensitive, you become aware of the hidden powers that be, dont called them gods, but a philosophy of life in which, after having forged your body and soul into many different disciplines, one day it comes that you become aware that the world doesnt works as it should be.., that there is something else, and that you can force the reality or the continuous time-space frame, to do your bidding. I know that this would sound like a matrix thing, but Jedi should be something like a continual quest, a continual forge of your very self to reach the peak of your own species and spiritual advancement to become a jedi, no as one mate says, a continual grinding of experience killing every thing in sightin your path.

SOE, many of us, are paying to enjoy a great game. Many have come to this game not only for the wish to become a Jedi, but for to Experience what would be to live into the StarWars galaxy, a confederation of worlds and politics. I am not flaming you directly, neither blaming you. You have created a great game, but sometimes some things screw up. Its my personal a constructive point of view, that the system of Jedi could be changed. I know.. there has been a great effort on your own to create a new instance into the planet called dathomir, called aurilia, to which you are directed by this '' old man '', to learn the secrets of the force. Thats good, and gives a kind of Roleplayable environmentand background history, but it is the whole grinding thing, the massive groups to kill higher and greater foes, the mistakes allowing to be more than a profession (allowing then, the defense stack),, that has wronged this great game and then reached this point in which you can see Jedi as much as you can see Mushrooms after a rainy day in Autumn (if you allow the metaphor).

Hope, you count with this, although I know I wont obtain an answer such, '' We will look on it further '' or '' Thanks for the advice ''.

Thanks Again.

I recently became Force Sensitive, but I am not grinding XP. I am playing the game with my friends just like I always have... I never did the Holo-grind and refuse to drop a template that I enjoy so that I can toss Grenades at a mind-numbing pace.

I don't know that I will ever actually attain the rank of Jedi and I have been playing SWG since the first month of launch. I can't tell you how Jedi should be attained, what I can tell you is that it should be fun... after all, isn't that why we are all here?

In my opinion the road to Jedi should be as unique as the road to enlightenment in everyone's life; people are different, what I enjoy you may not.

It is not for me to say which is best for anyone other than myself... maybe the road to Jedi should be determined by your Race and Profession... by the choices you make, not the hoops you jump through;perhaps a random generatation of criteria unique to each toon that is more of a puzzle than a mission... a discovery of one's virtual self.

The random generation for each character is a great idea. SOE did try to make the jedi thing more of a quest with the /check and the trials. You have to go so many palces and do so many things. You have to do quests to unlock the slots for grinding. you have to go through quests to become a knight. The inherent flaw is that akll of those things can be done really quickly so having to get xp is a buffer that takes time. I have been playing since about launch. I did 15 professions to see how they were before publish 10. I enjoyed each and everyone of those professions. I never did the grinding. After pub 10 because of my 15 professions i had 3 rows of fs and i took all ranged(to my dismay they are broken) because I was a BH. I have doen as you said and finally the day came when the old man visited me. I never could stomach the grind as some do. Now to be honest the jedi grind is the lousiest thing I have ever experienced and I for one recommend taking your time but you can't do that as a jedi at all. To me the msot mindless thing is grinding alone.

jedi is supposed to be long and difficult to obtain. How do you propose they go about making the path to jedi be long and difficult, but not be grinding? It will always be a grind. Get over it and get to work.

Who are we kidding the Jedi Grind is Crap and people who think of it as making jedi a hard prof is missing the point of what is hard and what is brainless and ruins what little there actually is to do in this game, sure you can make jedi have a ton of quests but what about all the other profs? and besides with some people you could make each box 1 mill of force xp to fill and they would be out there doing it tossing nades! or whatever.

Sure Jedi should have a grind but is that all you really want to do? and sure theres alot of jedi's but who doesnt want to be a jedi? I mean the reason for wanting it are vast and sometimes even pathetic everything from PVP to ohhhh i like the purple saber!!! lol

Truth is i think crafting is kinda going away cause everyone is pushing towards the quests and unlocks and nades are about the fastest way of doing while getting novice commando is kinda spendy on skill points so ive seen alot of crafters drop there skills for a nader toon. i myself dont use em and feel its the kind of loop hole that trashes the game. i belong to 7 servers and on some servers its getting to the point where you cant even find nades cause all the ws are now commando's kinda ironic! lol

And as for jedi its strange how so many newer jedi's dont want to get involved in PVP, I have a hard time understanding how a jedi could just want to hide on endor or whatever killing critters, you can do that with any prof why become a jedi? Jedi needs intent and purpose cause really it has none while most profs do, a weaponsmith makes weapons for us,a doctor heals or buffs in group hunts we all love it when we have a doctor around dont we, ect ect you get my point i dont want to list all the profs heh..

I mean eveyone does a prof for a reason BH's like myself know where gonna do PVP vrs jedi's thats why we became BH's, unless you just want to hunt NPC marks. and a crafter well ive met crafters that have never done combat and thats cool thats what makes this game good, i could keep explaining the differnt choices a person makes by what they are intersted in and what they can play.

I feel jedi should be a part of this game that strictly depends on cambat and im not talking about critter combat it should be a PVP prof as they say jedi is a prof that has high risks and danger as it should, i do think there should be a subtraction of force points on a death but i dont agree with bringing back perma death and i do think not only knights should be Overt 24/7 that should be for padi's as well. Give Padi a little bump in all aspects and make them show up on terms as soon as they log in there has to be a system of keeping them under control and instead of a padi avoiding the world and being alone to grind then show up one day a bad boy Knight taking on the whole mining outpost and winning thats just too corny Padi's should have a hard life and not just with grinds either get combat smart and get in other groups of padi's or even knights of your faction and let BH's have a squad leader type option to group hunt these groups of jedi's if not you know jedis would run in packs killing everything in there path and or coarse you would have groups of padi's on other faction hunting you as well and call this the new jedi grind cause you only get points when a jedi kills a player and great xp bonus for killing a jedi from other faction. thats what i call GCW this all happens anyway but it should be the only game play for a jedi and lighten up the loss of force xp lost in death, lets not get to heartless.

The reason i feel this way cause jedi really doesnt do anything for the game like most other profs do even a combat prof pumps money into system by doing those stupid missionsto support just about every other prof and in return we get mind buff's armor, weapons, food, ect ect.

i think it would lower the number of jedi's just by the simple fact it could get old when you cant even do a mission or show up in a city and not get a one way ticket to clone center if your not ready for a fight. i could be wrong but having a prof that does nothing but mean so much to everyone should unlock total chaos to your gaming adventure and if you dont like that then dont become one stay whatever prof you chose that fits your play style cause there must be a reason why alot of of my freinds who are knights are rarley on and when they are 95% of the time its the alt char but the ones i know who like or even love PVP are always in some kinda mess and really why have a jedi toon when sooner or later the only way to advance your toon is going to leave ya 24/7 overt and if ya dont like PVP then you have a problem....

Sure alot of jedi hopefulls will cry about it and padi's will cry about it but have you ever seen a knight cry about killing you and your friends at MO or cornet when they have such a huge advantage compared to normal prof's and really considering that mabey they where hunted 3 to 6 times by BH as a padi cry about us mean BHs snaggin them but yet by the time there knight its almost godly so its ok to kill like an atomic bomb..

everyone should be able to make padi easy its wanting to stay one and being able to survive as one should be the delema..

Not to reply to myself but just a quick thought i understand alot of people dont like PVP and are roleplayers ect ect?????????????? heh

but there should be a type of jedi or force sensitive toon only for PVE with like some trainee saber and qest based about equal to any elite combat prof for those among us like my 7 year old nephew who loves the game and wants to be a jedi but is an unrealstic option at this point.

Yes holocrons was the best way, but in a matter of time everyone would become a jedi. no matter what kind of system they put in for becoming a jedi, sooner or later, jedi will be running around just as much as any other profession.

In my minds eye the failing of the entire concept of attaining Jedi is that George Lucas wrote Jedi as a Religion.... not a Profession.

So.... if I am a Catholic I can just say The Lords Prayer over and over again and grind my way into Heaven??? It just doesn't make any sense to me and, in my opinion, kills what Jedi are supposed to be.

There is supposed to be a battle going on, not only a political rebellion, but a battle between good and evil; Jedi are the mystic champions of this battle...

I used to play AD&D when I was younger, I actually met and gamed with Gary Gygax at GC17, I like the roleplay that takes place in SWG and I also like a lot of the content... maybe a few of you out there have playied AD&D and know where I am coming from when I say that grinding something as mystical as Jedi is SUPPOSED to be is just wrong.

Earlier in this thread Varvo said something about everyone being a Jedi; I think that thought needs to be visited by SWG to see if that is what they really want... since we are playing what their vision of the SWG experience should be anyway.

Sure, Jedi are cool to watch with their lightning shooting out at stuff... but does anyone ever remember there being a Cantena filled with Jedi hiding from a group of Bounty Hunters waiting outside in any of the Books or Movies? If so I must have missed that Episode.

I realize that SWG is just a game, but it seems that SOE has this vision of creating an engaging virtual universe that the player looses themselves in for three or more hours at a time... which is a very admirable goal. But in the process there are many of us, who actually play and not run macros while we sleep or explode chickens with Grenades, that don't particularly care for some of the changes that have taken place over the last several publishes.
