from what ive seen it seems like you get an unlock for every 5 professions you have mastered... i have 15 mastered but could easily master brawler tonight making it 16. should i do it?

ive only done 9... does that mean i only get 1 free branch unlock?

So just two questions.
1. Suppose the old man shows up, and someone doesn't think they have the combat skills needed to defend the crystal, and say no to the crystal guard. Did they give up the path of Jedi forever with that character? Same question as if you die while protecting the crystal, is the path of Jedi closed forever?

2. I heard a rumor that the Corvette missions are NOT required. True? Not true? Please say they are not needed. I get my rear end handed to me EVERY TIME I GO WITH A GROUP (Hint to Devs: Lower the difficulty level slightly maybe. Not all of us fall into the top 1% of combat people in the game).

Does the old man show up as a white object on the screen or yellow? Also, does he show on only a specific planet, or anywhere?

A; No, the corvette is not needed. I made glowy with all POI badges + nym + jabba + reb + warren + hero ( although the corvette is not very difficult if you know how to do it

A: yes. I made 2 chars on TC glowy. Both time, I met the old man on Tatooine while waiting for the shuttle. But that is not a need. A lot of people recognized that the old man appeared after getting glowy and a logoff and using a shuttle. But there is no pattern afaik.
Q: Will hecome again if I didn't see him ?
A : Yes. If you ignore him, he will return next time you login. I don't know what will happen if you decline his offer, but I bet
Q: What about the sith strangers ?
A: They will return next time you login. I even logged out using shift+esc ( quick logout ) and switched to another char. When I arrived where I loged out my glowy char, he was fighting against the siths I switched back to him with the quick logout and the siths appeared again.

Well i got "Glowy" without doing the corvette perhaps these are optional if you dont wish to do the faction themeparks.
Mine were all POI's, Jabba TP, Rebel TP, Nym's TP, The Warren plus 2 Professions and a few others not N/A.
Strange thing was Nyms' thempark bumped me 2 levels from Feel Surge of the Force to "Glowy".

lol.... if you could give me a link to a guide that lets me solo the corvette, that would rock. I'm a 0001 pistoler, master smuggler, and working to do the pistols branch in Bounty Hunter, been with friends who are master TKA and even Jedi, and still gotten beat. I would love to solo it if I knew how.

*g* find it out yourself 
I didn't find it in the board .. a friend did a lot of tries and told me how to do it
Just a small hints :
- destroy missions, nothing else
- you need a master medic, no fighter skills needed
- you need to know what to do and where to go *g*
I did the whole corvette including a badge and all loots in about 20 mins.
