I understand what you're saying about the grind and how it might be more fun if it was quest based. But, you have to realize that in order to make a quest based system that would take as long as the grinding does in order to keep everyone from being a Jedi in two weeks, that would be an *awful* lot of quests and time on the part of the devs. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be preferable, just that with everything else they have on their plates we would have had to wait a very long time for the revamp, which would in turn have delayed everything else in the game. And, everyone who is not interested in Jedi would have been even more pissed off then they were when they heard the combat upgrade, GCW, and profession revamps were being delayed, as well as any new content that the entire player base can enjoy rather than the select few Jedi chasers.

The other thing to consider is that if it *was* quest based, then everyone would know how to do them. There would be guides all over the boards about every single phase of the quest, which would make the path go even quicker because most people would read all the spoilers beforehand. The only way to counteract that is to make the quests so difficult that you'd have to do them over and over again, or make sure you had a large group to help you at every step of the way. And, this, of course, would piss off the people who want to play the game solo. There's already a huge number of people that complain that you can't do all the JTL things by yourself or the exit Padawan quest by yourself.

My point is, the old cliche, you can't please everybody. What would work well for you might not work well for me, and vice versa. I think the devs did a pretty good job with the new Jedi system. I hated the holocron system and I'm so glad they scrapped it. This is 100% better and allows those of us, such as myself, who actually want to play a character able to reach Jedi. I refused to do the holocrons because I didn't want to ruin my character. Now I can do practically anything I want to do while slowly working my way up. And, yes, I'm a casual gamer as well. I became glowy within a week of the new system, and since then...5 months, I have only filled 3 boxes. At this rate, I expect to become Jedi in ...oh...2007...heh. But, hey, I'm enjoying the game and playing it the way I want to play, and I still have a goal to eventually get to, and I'm grateful that I actually get the chance to do this now. There's a nice combination of quests and grinding, and it's a good mix taking into consideration everything else the devs have to work on in this game and the time and resource constraints. I don't get burnt out because I don't grind, I just play and I know it'll eventually happen for me. I'm one of those long termers who are going to be here for awhile, even after I reach the highest pinnacles of Jedihood because I won't get burnt out, and by that time there will be even more things to do to occupy myself. I never get bored in this game, there's always something for me to do, distractions, and when there's not, I work on my force sensitivity. I think a lot of people rush through everything and get to the top and then they're bored and complain about lack of content. I've never had a lack of content in this game.I always have too much to do. The system works very well for me. And, I think it's a good thing that it's difficult and a turn off to people who don't want to put in that kind of work. And, who knows...maybe I will get fed up with it too and stop the pursuit. But, considering the way I play, I don't think that will happen. Because, as I said, I am just playing how I normally would play, enjoying the game, and filling up a boxevery month or so when I cap out.

the main thing to remember is that there has to be a limit on the number of Jedi, but everyone should have an opportunity... so a grind-based system IS the best, because those who stick with, and have determination will eventually succeed... those who want instant gratification will not.. it is the entire essence of becoming a Jedi... Patience, dogged determination, unlearning what you have learned

sorry, but I disagree with the "casual gamer" theory...

I'm not hardcore, but I do get to do roughly one buff session a night, I've got a full time job, female companionship and a kid of my own... I get to play for a few hours per night (enough for a buff session).

I'm swordsman/fencer, I can double cap in that buff session (one cap on each prof), so get 120k per night usually (sometimes less).

12 of those and that's a tree done.. you get 21 days so even with a week of you can go one per night and still cap the tree before the next phase hits.

The only gate here is the phase... and like SOE said, Jedi was always meant to be attainable quicker by Hardcore players, and it's NEVER unobtainable..

so what if it takes you 6 months.. an MMO is something you will playe for a year or two.. so yeah, give yourself a target.. not take everything you want and see it all in less than 6 months, because you'll leave and will still never understand what playing an MMO is all about...

Just my opinion, many will disagree

How much more casual can it get when you can start a dance macro and go to sleep, over time you can unlock and complete, what 2 or 3 full branches with zero mental or physical play involved? I know a person who has done just this. Really hard.
