Thread: Why Grenades are NO BIG DEAL

I believe that Grenades for fs xp and all the cries for nerfing the combat xp is kind of missing the point and really irrelevant. The real limits built into the system of becoming a Jedi is the real balance, so how you get there or how quickly, does not really matter in terms of the big picture the Dev's try to establish.
Here are the built in balances:
1) the cost of grenades: Both the production of them and the physical cost to players. Grenades are expensive to make. They require factory run parts and for some WS, 3 days or more to make without multiple factories. Also, the cost to players is upwards of 50-110k a crate, which is enough to get 100k fs xp. Therefore, we are talking MILLIONS of credits.
2) Village Cycles: In line with #1, it doesn't really matter how quickly you get your xp, because you still have to not only wait 12 weeks from start to finish, but you also have to factor in the time it takes to do all the themeparks, which while easy, are by no means a speedy process.
No matter how quickly you get your xp, you have 3 WEEKS with which to get it. Even a casual player can max out a branch in 3 weeks. The only real benefit to grenades is for those (like me) who didn't do much work on FS until 4th phase, so we have some catching up to do. It is also good for those who want to make it seem less like a grind due to shortening the amount of time you have to do it, which from reading forums, seems to be desirable to all, dev's and players alike.
In conclusion, I feel that with the revamp, everything will change anyhow, so pre-emptory nerfing of grenades not only seems unlikely, but also unnecessary. This is just my opinion of course, but I think many would agree. This has been posted in some form before, but I figured I would make a tight argument.

P.S. A grenade grinder will not jedi any faster than someone else, unless that someone else cannot for some reason get 1 branch every 3 weeks.

you can spend 5 hours tossing nades in one day to fill a branch, but can't spend 30-45 minutes to cap weapons xp once a day each day?
Not flamin ya, I just don't get the point of making the grind seem like work. Personally I max weapons each day anyway jus doin my normal stuff, it's set up so you get 900kxp each day, you'll fill the branch last day of phase.

Exactly. And the people who aren't able to get 1 branch trained every 3 weeks also won't be able to get knight in a year.

Since we're throwing out opinions, I think I can speak for many (or at least many that I know) who are only half heartedly interested in Jedi. My final template (if taken to the end) is a defensive pistoleer with unnatural defense. While worthy goal, I'm in no hurry.
I can understand that people are itching to wield a lightsaber into battle, but what I cant understand is why they don't automatically become Dark Jedi for their impatience
Anyhow, for me... I'll take the grind as it hits me. Some days I go work on a few 100k's of xp, other times I go blow stuff up in space. And once in awhile, I just like to hang out and RP in the cantinas, med centers, or near the Starport... Oh what fun it is to see the new pilots and hit my /patrol macro (mind you I'm an Imperial pilot) and watch them pull to a halt as I scan for contraband
I'll get there eventually... but I plan on enjoying my time getting there rather then wasting all my credits on grenades or my time grinding, all the while hoping Jedi will be something more then it is.
(edit for some spelling errors)

How do you max weapons exp that fast? I'm a FS TKM and it seems to take almost the whole buff session for me. I do it as fast as Ican. Maybe I just need to try harder but there seems to be a way of doing it. Even the Corellia base trick doesn't let me cap in 45 minutes.

G0d I HATE posts like these that don't even know both sides of the story. Why do we use nades? so we can do a branch in less than a week and then go about our normal lives which involve WORK and CHILDREN and SCHOOL and all sorts of things that those of us who live in basements all day can't do. Why do we use grenades? BECAUSE MANY PROCRASTINATE and MANY more are gone for extended periods of time in all places across the world. I have 2 branches done yet I will qualify for jedi next week. So in my case as in many others, using grenades -will- make us jedi faster than most; it is allowing a 4 branch grind that takes 10+ weeks to complete with weapon exp a matter of days. So before you think grenades are "no big deal" remember that some of us didn't just arrive in the village a few weeks ago.

Due to limited play time, trying to get enough XP during the three weeks would be impossible for me. I use C12s to "enhance" my XP gains so that I can at least try to keep up.
I didn't get to start the actual XP grinding when I started in the Village because I was using a new character for this. My last skill unlock comes in Phase 3, but since I actually started working on the XP a phase or two after I got to the Village, I'm about 3-5 weeks after Phase 3 to finish the XP. The grenades (and a good number of days off work recently due to holidays) has let me average almost the XP I'd need for 1 tree in 3 weeks.
Grenades gave me, as a casual gamer (due to time restraints, not due to attitude
) hope of seeing Jedi in a somewhat reasonable amount of time, even if that time is spent doing a continuous, monotonous, mindless, same-thing-every-night grind.

As i have a life outside swg i dont have alot of time to grind xp, it whould take me about 3 hours to cap weapons xp each day if i do whatever i usually do, in 3 hours i can cap combat 4-6 times, but i dont play 3 hours every day ya know, i have a girlfriend,i have school, i even have to sleep

Darkstar..... WTH? Did you read my post or just read the title? As far as I can tell, you are in agreement with me, yet you say you hate the post. Please read the post again and see if you actually know what I said. I meant that people are making a big deal about grenades, IE wanting to nerf them. I don't think they should be nerfed, because it doesnt matter. I wish people would really read.
