Thread: [FS]Grinding Question

I'll tell you something that I've noticed, and almost everyone does it: you know those giant long-necked things on Dantooine that look something like a cross between a giraffe and a zebra? Like *NOBODY* can spell their name right. I seriously mean *nobody*.
There is no such thing as a picket species in SWG.

There is no such thing as a picket species in SWG.lol amazing though it is how everyone insists on putting that C in there. haha
That's too bad, because I was actually making a living as a Master Artisan beyond the Swoop sales trickling in, by selling grenade powerups. Even with C12's, the FS grind is pretty darn long. It helps a bit, but it's nothing VERY dramatic.
Anyways, grenades give combat xp. That's what they do. So, using grenades to get combat xp....well, makes sense to me.
If anyone's willing to grind Commando, and eat away their armor, and bang themselves up with BF big time to speed up their FS grind, more power to 'em as far as I'm concerned. There's a benefit to it (speed) but a very high cost (grenades, power-ups, armor, Ent healing, Doc healing, etc etc).
If they mess with combat xp, the Commandos will get pretty mad lol. Those flamethrowers hurt. ![]()
Anyways, sorry about the superfluous "c" but it happens.
And what's your source on this revamp of grenades? And why would it be right to do? I'd just like to know.

It's definitely right for grenades to have their own experience type because they're their own weapon type. I have no problem with grenades yielding *some* combat xp, just like other elite experience types do currently, but it makes no sense for one weapon to yield an experience type that's ten times more valuable than any other. That's arbitrary favoritism of one weapon variety over another, and that's completely irrational.
NO ONE can tell me that it's fair for commandos to grind FS ten times faster than any other profession. What the hell is "Force" related about flamethrowers and ion cannons?!
Have fun kids.

Wel skuuuuuze me. Jus kuz im from a itty bitty hik town and me no types to well dont meen u gots to pull out the blow torch and flames the hells outsa me.
As for the "sploiting" (will have to check with the dictionary on that word), I would not call this exploiting. We are using an in game weapon as it wasintended to be used. Grenades give combat exp. If I was grinding rifle exp. I wouldnt cry nerf because I used my T-21 to kill spawns. The grenade grind is good for the economy and good for gameplay. Because of the damage a player takes while grinding he requires the services of entertainers more often. He also needs to spend a great deal of money for armor as it degrades. And of course the artisans and weaponsmiths that provide the equipment for grenades.
Andthis "revamp" thatyou speak of. I have heard of it too! We all have! And I am sure that when the combat revamp is emplimented many professions will be changed.

Using grenades to grind is fine, but you must admit that the experience granted for them is broken. What *is* exploitive are the many, many people who attack a lair directly because you can't miss, kill all the mobs, leave before more spawn, got to a second lair, do the same thing, go back to the first lair, kill everything, go back to the second lair, kill everything.
Most grenade grinders do this, and most grenade grinding guides encourage it. This is exploiting as it takes advantage of a fault in the spawn behavior in order to earn more experience in a period of time.
I wish they'd just fix the grenade xp and everything would be cool.
Sorry if you felt flamed, it really wasn't my intention. A whole heck of a lot of people call them pickets, though; I prefer "zebe-raffes."
Cheers
This entire discussion could have been avoided if there were a smarter, more "gaming" style solution to the question, "How should players become Jedi?" The idea that the path to unity with the force is by the senseless slaughter of literally tens of thousands of innocent wild creatures is absurd. No one would have ever developed the grenade (*cough* exploit! *cough cough*) method if there hadn't been a need for it, and that need was created by this entire Village of Aurillia / experience conversion gayness.
C'mon, do you think Obe-wan spent hundreds of hours of his life bashing pi(c)kets on dant to get where he was? Hell no. I support a quest-based, story-rich system to translate the Force adept into Jedi inits. I don't have a well-developed idea on what that should be yet, and I don't endorse any of those currently in the mill, but what I do know is that there's a lot more that's broken with the current Force sensitive advancement structure than involves grenades.
Unfortunately, the devs don't play their own game, or they'd know this too.
Cheers all. Sorry again for the firebombing, it really wasn't what I intended.

I agree that making extra creatures pop out of lairs is kind of shady.
But as for grenades, Commandos are at no really distinct advantage (speed, yes...but the cost....WOW, those 'nades are expensive). Everyone, and I mean everyone now (Wookiees finally got their certs fixed!) has a C12 grenade certification. Everyone has the ability to use C12's for pure combat xp.
To be honest, I think the Devs were well aware that powergamers could grind through FS with grenades (at a high cost of credits, though - so there's a penalty). However, they also probably accepted the fact that there are some folks who don't have much gaming time, and using C12's would be a way to even the playing field between the powergamers and casual players. C12's were the answer.
If they were so concerned with grenades and combat xp gain, when Aurilia was conceived they would have either:
1. changed grenades to grenade xp, changed commando 4xxx to require grenade xp
2. changed the combat xp ratio
3. uncertified everyone from C12's. Instead, they fixed Wookiees' certs so they wouldn't be disadvantaged. Seems like they were actively justifying using grenades for FS xp to me. The specific initial concern by Wooks was that everyone else could get combat xp faster than them with C12's, because their cert was broken - and a fix happened shortly thereafter.
I mean, it all doesn't really matter to me.
Those who grind out FS xp in 1 week pay the cost needed. Those are the people who would've slammed through 32 professions in a timely manner, too. Jedi is a powergamer reward, basically.
Besides, you can't use grenades to get Jedi xp - and BOY is there a LOT to get of that once you get Padawan...it all works out in the end.
I'm not concerned with people rushing through a grind to....get another, worse grind. To each their own.

I agree. A dark Jedi would slaughter. A light one would not. Should have been more thought put into that. And again, grenades aren't the exploit, from what I'm hearing from you - it's the extra spawns/guaranteed accuracy. Grenades yield combat xp, so using them for combat xp is using them for their purpose. I really feel the Devs knew what they were doing when they made combat xp 3 to 1 ratio.

I would've enjoyed the occasional "sense" of the Force within you.
Example -
I'm crafting. BAM I'm getting nothing but amazing successes on all experimentation, my item comes out with great stats, I'm on a roll and not critically failing on any builds. I'm getting better results than my resources should allow.
Oh look....on my Character Sheet, my Force Sensitivity xpwent up!
I'm fighting. BAM I'm mowing down enemies like crazy -I'm nothing but hyper accurate, I can't miss.
Oh look....on my Character Sheet, my Force Sensitivity xp went up!
The more you keep playing during these spurts, the more frequent the experiences occur. The more you play in general, the greater chance of having these "Force" moments. And the longer they are in duration.
This to me would be more "Jedi-like." Anakin used the Force for pod racing without really knowing it. Luke had good piloting skills, too - Force enhanced.
Unfortunately, this method might be too passive for some folks. They want to be able to powergrind and "determine their own destiny" so to speak.
