Thread: Why would I wanna be a Jedi?

I have a question for everyone to comment on...

I've been only a few months so I still feel very newbish on most things, but playing long enough to be dangerous to myself....

In watching many players turn Jedi and being Force Sensative myself at the moment and just getting a taste of the Jedi way of life, I find myself asking some questions about the profession and seeking enlightenment from those who have made the transition.

It appears to be, from my experience and the comments of those around me, that you have to slowly give up your current skills to become Jedi. I'm currently a Master Architect/Artisan/Fencer and with only a few points left to spare, I see Jedi already forcing me to give up points to advance. I see that there is Jedi crafting skills, but if I give up some of my Architectural skills, would I be able to continue to build items? It seems the Jedi crafting gives bonuses to success of my building, so if I choose that path I'll have great success at building items if I could only remember how to make them since I gave up the skill to get the bonus.

Same with my Combat skills, looks like I'm giving up combat ability to gain bonuses to abilities I'll have to give up to get the bonuses?

I now see Jedi running into homes, cowering in fear from being hunted from Bounty Hunters which are killing their bounties in just a few seconds/shots. I've heard rumors that Jedi are powerful beings and were all but impossible to kill, but perhaps that's only in the movies. I've found myself doing more damage as a Fencer than a Padawan and his light saber???

Soooooo, basically my question is this...

Is my impression of the Jedi life correct? Must you give up all your skills and training to become a blubbering idiot with a glow stick for a weapon and some neat static discharge effects? Why would I want to be a Jedi if such observations are true?

Not everyone wants to be a jedi, and the players that are all have different reasons. The most common is probably the second character slot, so you can have both a jedi and your crafter/combat profession.

There's a few jedi types that all Bounty Hunters run in fear of too you know, they won't tell me which one though. *ahem* The ones they don't fear are the healer Jedi, those are just annoying, wear down their Force and they EVENTUALLY fall (in an hour) You can't expect to pick up a new weapon type and be a super killing machine with it no matter what MMORPG you play, sure with the light saber you DO kind of expect it, but I heard you can get it down to 4 damage by wearing a hat.

Pretty much it seems that Jedi are what you make of them, myself? I'll be picking up 15sp of Force Sensativity just to boost my normal skills, and ponder going full Jedi in the future maybe. Force sensativity is VERY SP inexpensive, and gives lots of perks. Hard to get though, I dunno wether I'm looking forward to it or not...................... okay I am ^.^

Also, they're a roleplaying device. In this chapter all Jedi are hunted and hated, supposed to be anyway, if you become a Jedi you can't go around flaunting it or you'll be hunted (that's how it's supposed to work anyway). So go easy on showing off and you shouldbe fine (SHOULD be).

Your evaluation of the Jedi life is already biased based onyour ending paragraph.

The Jedi Padawan, even low level Knights are by no means all powerful. Like your architect/artisan/fencer grind, the Jedi must also grind to greatness, though that grind ismultiplied 1000 fold.

You will unlock a second character slot, making your architect/artisan/fencer dreams once again a reality.

But therein remains a great attraction in becomingaJedi,a realattraction that dominates the real life world. That attraction is the lust for power. This game promises that a Master level Jedi will bemore powerful than any character in the game. Many players feel the need to become the "greatest of them all" - somethingtaught to many of us from early childhood.

But I'm digging at very deep psychological levels here...to sum it up...

YOU DAMN SKIPPY, THE GLOWSTICK ROCKS !!!!!!!!

Jedi I believe is not meant for everyone, some people rush to it thinking they will be "Uber Gods" in the game which leads to flaming, nerfing, and hate post. I know for my self its was the last Combat Profession I did not try, which why I went for it. As a Bounty Hunter my fear is not going for a Jedi in his robes and lightsaber, its the one you find that has normal clothes and walks among everyone hiding the fact that he is a Jedi. Those are the ones that always gave me a run for my money.

I will tell you from exp. the best way to answer this question would be a try Bounty Hunter or go for Jedi. Its what you make of it, its never what how people say it is. We are all only human and we explain it the best we can.

I will tell you as a Bounty Hunter I have saw the following things off thetop of my head, people hide in houses, run away, send hate tells, have friends pick them up in speeders, launch into space, use droids and pets, stand their ground and firght, use healing and attack with a Laser Rifle, and many others...

Hey, some really good comments there guys, appreciated and keep 'em coming.

I guess I need to find that part about unlocking a 2nd character, see when that happens. Looking forward to mastering these same skills all over again and paying the credits to do it again as well. Would be nice to just "transfer" the knowledge to the 2nd character, guess I'll find out more once I find that thread.

Good idea about banking those Force Points, I think I'll give that a go.

I see a few comments about becoming "all powerful" and I can certainly understand that with all the whining and god wanna be's out there, but I wasn't looking for god-hood. More over, it appears that advancing in levels in the game also means a decrease in damage abilities with the new weapons. One thing I noticed with my climb as a fencer is that some of the weapons I unlocked did less damage than my previous weapon, that just seems a bit odd to me. If my skills and weapons get better, my ability to do damage shouldn't be going down. I know there are variations based upon who built the weapon, how well and who sliced it, so save those comments.

I'd love to hear some comments from a Bounty Hunter/Jedi, what's it like to hunt yourself?

And finally, point me to any other good threads about turning into Jedi? Light side/Dark side, I'd like to learn more about both.

Its not so much whether you want to become a Jedi or not, thats personal choice. But SOE does want you to become one. You see theyve been using the Jedi ace in the hole for quite some time now, because they know it hooks people into consuming more time in game, and therefore more SOE $'s. The 'rarity' and 'tough road' is all a bunch of crap they spewd when first releasing the game, because simply the title "Star Wars" was enough to hook in hundreds of thousands of fans right from launch, something no other MMORPG really had the luxury of.

After the Star Wars novelty wore off, and the 'mystery' of unlocking a Jedi was gone, they knew the only way of keeping up subscription accounts was to dangle the Jedi carrot in front of everyone. I call it completely selling out, and losing the integrity they thought they started out with, but im sure SOE would call it 'good business'. Theres no more mystery to Jedi, theyre a joke in my opinion. Seeing them at every starport, flaunting force powers in front of anyone who cares to see, if your not bored of having seen it a million times before. The danger is gone. The mystery is gone. And now we're left with an imbalanced game that cant sort itself out because SOE is trying to figure out what will make them more money: a balanced game or hooking people to something that quite simply isnt what was intended, and has become stale.

All just my opinion of course, but from my point of view, SOE wants you to become one, and unless you do, you'll be sidelined. Cant really balme them i guess. Business is business. Just a shame to see it in action so blatently.

Unlocking Jedi seems to most the ultimate achievement, it was for me. I say most because not all unlock for the jedi. I quit after the Holo's were introduced then came back to the game when the village started. I unlocked a phase or 2 before the CU went live. You get the second slot after you finish your padawan trials 16 in total, fairly easy. You will begin your padawan days with all your professions sp intact and the 24points invested in FS. As you gain the exp for additional boxes in jedi you will need to free up points to do this thus losing your previous profession(8 for novice 20k jedi exp, 8 for tier 1 200k jedi exp, 6 for tier 2 jedi 400k exp, 4 for tier 3 800k jedi exp, 2 for tier 4 1.6 mil jedi exp, 1 for master 3.2 mil jedi exp). 226 points can be spent in Jedi in total and then you are "Full Temp" i.e all points spent. The beginning of the padawan grind will be hell. Most BH's will go after those jedi listed under 120k as they are relatively easy kills. i have seen some 2-3 hit incaps. As Jedi we can heal for 1500 every 3 secs or so at 4000 healer. We are by no means "god-mode" If you know what you are doing when you are fighting a jedi you can solo higher level ones. Wont be a quick fight but can be done.

The reason most lower level jedi hide in houses is the fear of a BH death. If a BH goes after a padawan worth lets say 80k and kills his mark, the BH gets paid and the jedi loses 160k exp. with the CU now Jedi are pretty much forced to group hunt to get any decent amount of exp(almost certainplacement on the BH terms). When I was under 80k SoloI could do maybe 20-30k an hour, Grouping I could do 100-250k. Not bad except that at that level in a full group of 8 the jedi gets around 600-800 exp per kill, you cannot solo due to crap damage and hence the whineing begins. The most BH visits I have had in one day.. 8. Loss of exp is 2x what ever the mark is worth. PVE death is now gone as well as the cloning penalty, so padawans of now have it Alot easier than before CU.The most a jedi can go in the hole negative is -10Mil (Not fun). As you gain boxes you will be able to better defend yourself against a BH.Most will not hunt you solo once you get above the 180k mark. But as of now BH's can come in a team of 5 (Gank Bus) almost certain death for a jedi. They are supposedly going to remove visibility(which gets a jedi on the terms) from groups and remove names from BH terms to reduce griefing and such. Should make the grind for lower level padawans easier.

the best info I can give those looking to unlock is simply make it easier on yourselves. Get used to PVP now so you will know what to do in certain situations. I have hunted marks that think I exploit because they cannot get up after I knock them down. When I told him about the KD recovery button, he felt a little noobish. He nade grinded his way through the village he said and was a crafter the other parts. Hate to say it but many that unlock now have little to no PVP experience. Also dont think of the village as a grind. If you do you will get bored of the game very quickly. I did swords/TK and would cap once or twice, sometimes morea buff session(Pre CU) then do other things. If you did just start the game three months ago, there is a ton of stuff you prob havent seen or done yet. Unlock that FS box then spend the "grind time" getting that exp doing quests/missions. jump into space. I never did spend time in space before and am having fun being a noob in space Many people just do the FS quests to get the added perks. If they "really help" no one really knows which do/dont. Have fun with it and you will enjoy it alot more. Jedi is a goal.. shouldnt be thought of as a chore.. Good luck to ya

dude once your jedi crafting will be the least of your worries. And if you are worried about building house while your a Jedi then you dont want Jedi. You cant be Architect,Artisan,Jedi like you could with fencer.
