edit: I decided to add a note on crystals i was asked and didn't think to mention at the bottom of this post.

I just thought i'd post this handful of information that seems to escape the FAQ's and is brought up a lot in the jedi boards.

First off, visibility is a big issue, just don't use anything that drains your force bar within 32m of any player (whether its your alt, best friend, guildmate or jedi master), NPC or driod (questionable but they seem to generate vis). But more importantly, you don't geton the terminalsprior to getting the purple force bar at the end of the padawan trials, but you will acquire visibility (there are some say this is not the case, take some advice, don't mess with this). So at the 8'th-9'th trial when you craft your lightsaber, consider getting the 20k of xp before completing the trials because you will most likely be getting it on a starting planet.

Ok, first lightsaber, take off all armor, even a pair of ubese gloves will remove the LS certification you need to swing it. If you find that no matter what you are hitting for 10 damage, then you still have some armor on. Don't go crazy crafting the training saber, max damage between 134 and 140 is just fine.

Go buy some pikatta pie, citrus snow cake, you probably have brandy and get a buff. It should take 2-3 hours to get 20k of jedi xp for that first novice box. Pikatta pie is a 50% dodge food, lasts for 20+ mins and will be your best defence, citrus snow cake is 40% accuracy for 20+mins and will be the only thing that makes that training saber hit. BE clothing will help too, I used pants, shirt, jacket and a bandoleer that all had +4 melee defence.

My suggestion is to go to doaba guarrfel (Sp?) on corellia, its the northern city, group with anything and take the 2200 credit dire cat missions. These guys will give you decent xp (well among the best, there's thing on tat and some say quenkers, but it all boils down to a 2 hour grind no matter what you pick as long as its the better xp givers). You will get 100-170 jedi xp per kill. Use Berserk, constantly. If you have brawler, use intimidate.

After you bank your 20k of xp (don't get more, novice lightsaber is so much better than that first 20k that there's no need to get more than you need) finish the padawan trials.

After you finish the padawan trials you'll want to train novice LS. This took me a while to find because I probably didn't see the note on the screen. Type in /findmytrainer and you will get a WP to your jedi skill trainer, it will always be the same guy for you and you can't pick a new one (I tried cause mine is near a mob that always attacks me).

Ok, so now you have novice LS, get to make a first gen saber and you now have to deal with visibility. Robes don't cause vis, neither do profession titles. My experience with profession titles is that it leads to players asking for duels (which will put you right on the BH terminals). Wearing robes leads to players asking questions. I don't like the attention so i never wear my robe around other players and they all think i'm a master medic.

Don't kill yourself trying to make the best first gen saber you can. Decide if you're doing one handed, two handed or polearm saber (more below) and craft a couple seeing what the best results you can get are. I've found that for some reason an amazing success on the damage has actually lowered the max damage. But any saber that has more max damage than 140 is just fine. Tune a damage crystal (clear one) and pop it in, force cost is important. -6 or more on the force cost of the damage crystal will make the grind much easier cause your purple bar won't shrink down as much. But at this low level, you are really just shootin for a negative force cost on the crystal, max damage increase is just a bonus. Negative damage stinks, but if you get -7 force and -4 max damage, its a good grinding crystal, don't chuck it.

Pickup novices boxes for more force pts. I learned all the novice boxes, each gives another 200 force pts and its nice to have them. But with a good crystal, you might not need all that force.

Pick your path up the LS tree (most go 0010 to 0040 and then 0041 to 0044 first). I suggest the polearm saber tree as everyone else does, the reason many give is the first spin attack, well you probably won't use it. I think the benefit is the second spin attack and more importantly polearm dervish at the 4'th box. BUT, 0400 has its advantages as well, its a longer grind but has attacks that can outdamage dervish at the 4'th box.

At novice LS you will have a special attack for each type of saber, this attack will hit random pools for abou 1500-1800 damage. Considerably more than prior to novice LS. It is at this point you can decide where you feel comfortable grinding. I don't run missions, I try to stay at least 3000m from starports/shuttleports and never hunt on dantooine. It's about being safe and making sure I'm not on the terminals. From here on out, you're on your own for finding grinding areas.

Group with a driod and keep that driod far from you, they do generate visibility.

Keep your bike out at all times in case the battle gets tough you can run, or if a BH comes up, jump on and flee.

A couple things you can do to help yourself out a lot.

1) turn off terrain in the radar, its in the options on the interface tab, this will let you see NPC's on the radar around you easier

2) use the new UI colors you get at padawan, I think some are better than the ones you get prior to jedi

3) make the radar bigger and expand it out to 128m (which updates faster than 256m), besides, players don't show up on the radar until they are within 100m of you.

4) change the layout, i will put a link to a screen shot of my layout. I'm not saying its the best, but its a different way to look at it.

5) read the jedi FAQ, lots of good info.

When it comes to crystals and tuning, I mentioned that you want to try to get -6 or lower for a good grinding saber, but i wanted to throw this out as a possible guideline. A crystal with 750 condition will get you about 5,000,000 jedi xp. But the catch is this, your crystal doesn't care if you are killing something that gives 100xp vs one that gets you 700 xp, so you want to spend that continual condition decay on things that give good xp as opposed to killing lots of things that give only a little xp.

Many jedi can get 10mil xp off a 750 condition crystal, obviously they take more chances than I do. But a finished jedi template (without any BH problems) costs 30-35mil jedi xp, so consider that while lining up your damage crystals. This is also the reason I choose to do all my grinding with a 1'st gen saber since it only takes 1 damage and 1 color as opposed to a 3'd gen taking 3 damage crystals and 1 color, yes i hit for way more with the 3'd gen, but i would also go through a lot more crystals.

I also wanted to make note of something that most ranged players won't understand the signifigance of, you can fight with a lightsaber while kneeling. This is huge if you are a doc and can cure dizzy. I meant to throw that in but didn't really know where to stick it.

clicky

This is the screen layout I use. The main benefit is that the radar is big. But more importantly, everything i need to see is in the lower right corner. The default screen layout puts all the important things at different corners of the monitor so you're always looking around for stuff. If you have your radar, with your health right above, the health of your target above that, you can stay focused on combat and watch out for approaching player.

Once you start the grind up the LS trees, good xp for LS 0000 is about 500-600 per kill (some players get more, you decide what to go for). If you have any doctor or TKA 4xxx then go for things that poison, they will give you more xp. On endor you can take out bolle bolle stompers, they will give you 520 xp per kill, but are the same to kill as arachne drones which give 704. So the chances of poison is worth it if you can get rid of it.

As you get higher, endor is good for Borgles too, Life sappers give 723 and the fierce borgles will give more and more. As you train up in your jedi skills you will see that the xp starts to increase for some creatures. Arachne Warriors gave me 726 at LS 0020 but give me 950 at 0040, as you increase your private_jedi_difficulty your xp cap increases and you can get more xp for some kills that you have been taking out all along. But it will also decrease the xp you get on creatures that become too easy. I only get a little more than 100 jedi per bolle bolle stomper now.

Good luck, i hope this mini guide helps you out.

Thnx for the help man!

That no visibility prior the force bar is very important! Didn't know about it.

Awesome post! Exactly what I needed as a new padawan....

I missed the /findTrainer command also so thanks for that as well ..

Droids generate visibility huh? I thought that was gonna help me grind. . . all my low-level combat grinds were assisted by my combat droids. Kinda disappointed that I wont be able to use them . . .

I've heard some contradicting info on base melee profs . . . i was master pistoleer / bh0040 / medic 2040. Now I am Mpistoleer/medic2040/brawler0400 wiht plans of going master fencer. However, I was told that the dodge and other benefits will not apply to LS. . . I assume that it i get in trouble I can jsut equip a 1h weapon and gain all the defensive benefits. . . do you have any experience with this?

oh, couple other things.

If you take all the novice boxes, novice healer gives you a move that heals 500 of the health pool, i found many creatures only hit my health and not the action, so this saved some stim packs. But its a lot of force cost if you don't have much.

If you take novice powers, you get animal scare, you can use this within 32m of a creature to try to pull 1 at a time from a lair. Be cautious, it can work against you until you really understand how to use it. The idea is to scare the creature away from the lair and then run after then a little.

I meant to include more damage examples, at LS 0010 you will get a leg hit, this will deal about 1200 to the action pool. Targeted attacks are great and I only used that to get to 0020. At 0020 i switched to the next leg hit and then at 0030 i started to use the spin attack on lantern bird lairs. The second leg hit did more like 1600 damage and when you train to 0030 it started doing 1900 damage. The first spin attack deals out about 700 damage to each critter within 10m of you, the second one deals about 1400, that's why spin 1 is no good. Unless you're fighting cowardly gurrecks with spin 1, it usually doesn't kill things fast enough and you might end up running a lot. BUT I did not use pikatta pie when I was 0010 so it could have made a huge difference.

Stick to the first gen saber, I'm 0043 now and still use a 1'st gen. It's less crystals wasted on grinding and the 2'nd and 3'rd gen sabers are very force cost intensive. My second gen is 24 force and my third is 39, even with good negative force crystals they will drain your pool. But here's the thing. My 213 max damage first gen will hit with saber dervish for about 3000 per swing, not too shabby. My third gen will hit for more like 5000 per swing, but will completely deplete the 2400 force pts i have on one lair.

there are some jedi that say driods don't gen vis. I hunt jedi and a friend of mine that I know has never been seen by any NPC let alone a player ended up on the terminals. His mistake was that he had a driod next to him the whole time. I can only assume that's the source of his vis.

As for swapping to a regular weapon, I have had experience with this but here's the thing. You're in a jedi robe swinging a saber that does not suck up your HAM bars, just your force bar. As soon as you equip that gaffi stick and start spamming specials, you have to watch your ham bar a bit but you also have to toss some armor on. Then you have to take the armor off, put the robe back on (which takes a couple mins to generate the 250 force pts it adds to you).

But it did save my life, I went to jedi from master doc + fencer 4xxx. When i still had the pts to have 44xx i was ok, but as soon as i lost that x4xx i couldn't swing a gaffi stick to save my life and the things I was going after were generally too high for a curved sword or rykk blade.

Dodge and all those things do not help jedi. The only thing that will help you dodge attacks is melee defence and food (well ranged defence but i avoid creatures that "spit").

I also want to point out that I did not switch to the gaffi stick much after novice LS once I found the creatures that I liked to kill and had no problems with. If you find yourself getting in over your head a lot, then hit www.SWGCREATURES.com, its a great resource to find what deathblows, poisons, diseases, etc. But it also helps you find things in your level. LS 0010 is level 25 and lower, just for starters...

oh, some tempting level 1 boxes that you need not waste time with early on.

enhancer 1xxx gives force speed 1, this makes you swing the saber 15% faster for 3 mins and uses a little force. It's useless until saber 0030.

Healer 1xxx allows you to heal your mind for 500. Tempting, but the delay in using this until you're swinging a saber at 0040 could kill you. If you're attacking things that are hammering your mind, find new things to kill. Robas and boar wolves will hammer your mind in groups, but taking one or two at a time is ok.

Basically, 200k of xp is going to come at the rate of about 35k an hour. These pts are much better spent on climbing the LS tree.

Jedi XP/Hour per level (based only on my experience, some jedi are real go getters and might do better than me)

LS 0000 - 35k an hour

LS 0010 - 50k an hour

LS 0020 - 75k an hour

LS 0030 - 85k an hour

LS 0040and up - 100k an hour (if you can find enough spawns to keep grinding a solid hour)

Once you can go to dath and grind rancors you can get 150k an hour I hear, but in general most jedi talk about 400k per buff set

proper farming of a lair. This is something I thought i perfected grinding the village, i was mistaken. But its also because early jedi just takes longer so you can kind of see things in a more drawn out fashion.

First of all, this is only worth while at lower jedi levels since you will spend some time letting force regen. At higher levels it becomes more like the village grind in that you're goal is to take out a lair and move on milking only enough to get good xp off the lair and not wasting time getting every possible creature.

Ok, I approach the bolle bolle stomper lair. There's 2 critters, I kill them. I do not tap the lair. After 30 seconds, 2 more appear. I kill them, I tap the lair and get 2 more. I wait 30 seconds and 2 more appear. I hit the lair down to 1/2 health and I get 2 more. Sometimes if I wait, I get 2 more, but usually I do not. I kill the lair. So I should get 10 critters and the lair, this amounts to almost 6000 jedi xp. 523 per critter and then I get like 700+ for the lair.

My main point beyond farming the lair as best as possible is that you will be swinging slowly and will get 10 critters out of the bolle bolle stomper lair. The question for you is simple, do you want more than 2 on your at a time? Probably not...

"End lairs" are important to know about, its when you almost kill a lair and get a "boss" or collection of "bosses". If you're like me and prefer to kill arachne's on endor watch lairs that spawn a mix of drones, warriors, webmasters and others.

Spiders (endor):

If the lair has 2 drones and a mound, kill the whole thing, there is no end lair.

If the lair has a mix of drone(s) and any "red" con spider, the end lair could be one of these (all kind of ugly)

1) Ten arachne hatchlings (life saver, but I like the xp from the queen)

2)One Arachne Queen andten arachne hatchlings (840xp for the queen, 200 each on the hatchlings, LS 0030 = no problem)

3) nightmare, One arachne queen and 3-4 arachne webmasters (I still run at LS 0043)

Mereks (endor):

I started killing these at 0030 if I could pull a couple, but was trying only to find blood stained. at 0040 i can take on 2 blood stained and a harvestor/death head or other no problem but if there's like a mix of 5 it gets hard cause they hammer my mind with ranged attacks. It's important to know that ANY merek lair can spawn a Merek Queen and 5+ Toxic Battle Lords as the end lair. It's like isntant death.

Gurks (Lok):

I did a lot of grinding on Lok, I liked Kusaks, Perleks and Gurks, but at LS 0020 i found I outgrew the planet and too many NPC's were spawningaround me. But be careful, gurks can spawn a mix of king gurks or some other "ancient" kind of gurk at the end.

Bottom line is this, if you have a lair that could spawn an end lair. make sure your bike is right there, if everything around you gets "red" mount and run. I have this macro hot keyed to ctrl+z:

/mount speeder;

I meant to add this in, drive away, but just to lose the combat with that end lair mob, then go back and kill the lair, no need to let that 800+ xp go to waste. I used to guide the spiders about 50m from the lair, circle back and kill the lair and then knock out the queen and each webmaster one at a time since they are spread out at that point.

Simple, effective and among the best macros you'll use as a jedi...

oh, one final note on things that I always suggest to hunt. First, I like endor. I've used endor the most except prior to LS 0020 when i liked Lok. But I did grind out 0010 sabers using bolle bolle stompers, swirl prongs and cowardly gurreks.

A quick warning, the deserts of endor are great for leveling at 0030 and up, but watch out for the Gorax, this thing runs as fast as your speeder and will chase your for 1000m or more.

So here's a simple guide to safe leveling, feel free to find your own things to kill, my intention is to post the things that game me the best xp/hour, as I say many times, other jedi may know of better things.

LS 0000 LOK
Perleks are good if the lair doesn't have too many, Gurnasets might be better since they have a mix of hatchlings.

LS 0010 LOK

Perleks are much easier now, gurks are good but watch yourself. Kusaks are great, just watch the harder ones. Snakes are good too, if you can heal poison.

LS 0020

Endor

Endor (for me) here on out, I used Bolle Bolle Stompers and Bark Biters as staple food, they were my favorite, just watch the dizzy/posture change. Arachne Drones, absolute favorite, 704 xp per kill, you will love them. Borgle Life Sappers, 826 per kill, I loved them more than arachnes as these were the highest xp I could get and they are easy, they are the same as the roaming desert borgles if you prefer the desert. Bloodseeker mite hunters, 801 XP and great, I could never find a lair of them, they aleways traveled in pairs.

Yavin
Yavin is a planet i keep going back to, some players swear by it, I don't care for it. Too many NPC's for my taste. But, tybis are great. 523 xp, easy to kill and rarely, if ever, target your mind. Mamians are good too, but they tend to hit your mind.

LS 0030

Same as above only you'll kill things faster. I added in Boar wolves as a safe kill and robas at this point. Prior to 0030 I thought robas were too hard and risky. A group of 5+ will (for someodd reason) all start tearing your mind down.

LS 0040

Yavin or Endor, Snakes on yavin are great, spiders on both are great and I try to go for anything that cons yellow on both, if a lair has a mix of yellow and red, I feel safe attacking, if they are all red, you have to test the waters.

No matter where you grind, know your surroundings, if nothing is spawning, drop a factory (no idea why, but things will start to spawn). Don't pick a hunting ground hear other player's harvestors or factories, you're just begging to be "seen."

KEEP THE BIKE OUT AT ALL TIMES.

If you must go AFK, jump on the bike and head for water. There are some BH exploiters that will still be able to kill you on the water so its not 100% safe, but at least a group of creatures won't spawn on top of you or better yet, an imperial drop ship won't swing by and dump a couple loads of stormies on your head. Early on I was fighting spiders on endor, I walked away for 2 seconds and came back to see 10 storm troopers backing me up while I was swinging the LS. I was using an AFK area attack that would have had me killed if I was rebel.
