Thread: Different people learn and do things differently: A plea not to make it harder to achieve Jedi

Reading these forums lately, there have been a lot of threads about how easy, or how hard it is to grind Jedi. You know what, both sides are correct! As a teacher, it becomes obvious that different people learn and do things differently, according to their strengths. Grinding is a very focused activity, which includes a numbing amount of repetition.

For some people, this method plays to their strengths, and they sail through the village and padawan trials, and quickly move up the Jedi template. Others, however, are not wired for that kind of activity, and the path to jedi becomes a torurous and un-fun activity. For those who say, "if you don't like the grind, don't become jedi," please understand that achieving jedi is simply easier for some, and that it has nothing to do with the desire to create a jedi character.

Because of this, please don't make it even harder for those who already have a hard time, doing what you said would allow them to achieve jedi status. By changing the ratio of combat experience converted to force sensitive exp, you will again reward those who are suited to grinding, and punish those who are already having a difficult time. I understand that you are trying to close a grinding "loophole", but I ask you to consider what further problems will be created by this "solution."Jedi will be created, and more will be active as time goes on (or at least this is what you should be hoping for, because the players will stay longer and continue to pay for the game.) Therefore, provide for the number of jedi, stop trying to prevent them. Prevention is a lost cause, unless you want to make it soo difficult the new number becomes a trickle. Instead, admit they are comming, and then adjust for it.

With this in mind, I have an idea. Bring back the perma death, with a twist. New jedi could start with the three lives, but allow them to GAIN more lives, up to a limit of say 20. This would allow jedi players to come out when they feel confident of the number of lives they have, and drive them back into hiding when they have only a few. Limit the number of lives they can gain to one a day. Methods for gaining lives could be, training a padawan, defeating a "boss", defeating a BH comming to get them, or by converting faction exp or force exp.

Holy crap I am sick of hearing about how "hard, or time consuming" it is to get Jedi. I am a pre-9 unlocker and back then it was 10 times harder and more time-consuming than it is now. I mean most of the new jedi are AFK GRINDING FOR CHRIST SAKE!! I mean that was totally unthinkable pre-cu. You have it soooo much easier now and the proof is right in front of your eyes. Just look around you, everyone and their mother is a jedi now and its ridiculous. IMO jedi should be the most difficult profession to obtain in this game. It should be a secret how to unlock it. Kinda like the hologrind but with content being involved. Here's my idea of how it should be.

It should be totally random so its different for each person. Meaning one person might have to master 15 prof's, do jabbas themepark, kill a certain amount of mobs on certain planets, do a corvette mission, and have been an active player for 6months. Then a window will pop up saying "You have become eligable to become a Jedi, if you are interested in this endevour meet up with an old man "insert planet and WP here" to start your training" Then the village kicks in and you start from there. And for each person its totally random what will unlock your chance to start your training so there is no walkthroughs or guides for someone to follow. That way people get to play the game as different prof's, explore the galaxy, engage in the games content, etc. before becoming a jedi is even possible.

I'm sure there are a ton of people that are gonna hate this idea because it takes away the quick and easy path that currently exists but as you all can see the quick and easy path has just flooded the servers with jedi and its only getting worse by the day. Pretty soon it will be all jedi and the game will just become boring and very un-interesting. But I guess we'll see. If the new FRS dosnt change things for the better there really will be no hope for this game in the very near future. It will become KOTOR and the Jedi wars will begin....

Don't get me wrong, because at one point I worked my butt off to get jedi, but there are just so many jedi at the moment, something had to be done to at least slightly slow down that population. And yes, I'm aware that not everyone who plays this game desires to go jedi, but when you go to Mos Eisley and all you hear from the newbies is "How do I get jedi??" right when they first start playing, it's a little discouraging. There's more to the game than just getting jedi. No, I'm not saying that anyone shouldn't be able to get jedi, but then again what fun would it be if everyone had jedi and then got bored of it. Sure, you have an alt, but if like with your main, you get bored of your alt's template, it's inevitable that you'll want to make them jedi also and then be back to step 1.

Cough* Cough* I about choked on my coffee when I read this. Hologrind hard? Long? You've got to be kidding. And Hologrinders, perfectors of AFK Mastering? I don't grind afk, and have never ground afk. But how many Hologrinders ground out 30+ professions AFK.

Pre-9 Hologrinding was anything but hard. Hell, it wasnt even long, compared to the 18 week minimum. Sure some people took ages, but many did it just like you are complaining about, AFK.

Continuity is already shot. Don't make it difficult to BECOME a Jedi, make it difficult to BE a Jedi.

I just want my second character slot, damn it! I don't want to be a Jedi AT ALL! If they want to make it so difficult to be a Jedi, then put in an alternate way to get the second character slot that everyone is getting. As it stands, there is no incentive NOT to make a character Jedi.

In all reality, they seriously need to make it take ALOT longer before characters even become glowy.Jedi are popping up all over the place and the more jedi that come into the game, the more there gonna nerf it and thats not good especialy for those Pre-9 Jedi that went through hell to get where they are now.Heres a list of reasons below why jedi needs to be harder to get....

1.Too many jedi as it is.The GCW has turned into KOTOR plain and Simple.

2.With too many Jedi, the devs are nerfing the profesion tocrap and thats just sickening.

3.How can a class be special when everyone has one?Since the CU the FS xp rate will not work and yes i agree with the combat 30:1 change plain and simple.

4.This class is the END GAME,if i can reach that in a matter of 3 months whats that gonna do for the game far as keeping players intrested and servers full?

I know theres many of you that are grinding hard and trying to reach this goal, and i feel for you and hope you accomplish what you set out to do.There are just to many new players getting Jedi within a matter of months and thats not healthy for this gameor the way the game is played.Jedi is a special class and it should take your character IMHO a long time to even get the honor to start the village.Well thats my 2 cents worth guys peace out

P.S If it was up to me i wouldhave Glowy setto a veteran reward so you gotta be in the game for like over a year to even start the village.Have it set up as A(do you want that ADK or do you B( want torecive the visit from the old man. That would raise the price of ADK,s in the game, and retain players longer.

Get what you want out of this game. And if you want Jedi, then the devs shouldn't stop you. I don't want this FS grind harder because I will be losing 90k FS xp per trip. Last time I left because FS was pretty hard, and this time... well lets just say if there is anymore screw up I might contemplate going to another game.

I don't even care if I have a Jedi! I just want a friggin alt. And I never used grenades to get even as far as I've come!

So now we're ALL being forced to use grenades to get xp faster...

Besides, stoping Jedi growth now is a lost cause. They've already overrun the servers. It's too late to use this control device.

No guys. You cant divide a community like that. That drives the hatred even deeper. Then you have those that would have unlocked under an easier system being hated by those who were cheated and had to wait. Sorry, to late for that.

The problem with the whole Jedi path is that it was given out, and now everyone knows how. The amount of people trying to get jedi will not go down, and holding people back anymore is detrimental to new memberships. Then on top of that, anything that changes the system for current Jedi will be met with account cancellations etc,etc there as well.

Jedi is a no win situation for SOE. There is no recovery without major losses in customers. Poor management, administration, and implementation of Jedi has destroyed the vision of the game. ALl good things must come to an end. If you got to enjoy the early days as a Jedi, then great, because it will never again be at what it was.

Thanks you everyone who has posted, and for your comments. I think however that you have missed the intent of this post. It doesn't matter what method they choose to filter for the jedi profession, because it will play to the strengths of some, and the weakness of others. The current method, which is now well documented, is to force the player to spend hours grinding experience to achieve the goal. Already many jedi exist, and more will come. I am asking SOE not to make it more "painful" in the amount of grinding to achieve the goal.

It is too late to restrict the number of jedi, unless you make it so difficult by moving the goalposts further and further away that you create a privilaged class that managed to get in under the wire, and prevent everyone else from getting it. That is not what people ALL PAY THE SAME FOR. Instead, embrace the new jedi, and prepare content for them, and tweak the game to adjust for it. Why should some get the advantage, and not others. By changing the amount of exp needed to get Jedi, you are instituting an inherently unfair system, that rewards players who can spend more time playing, and can stand the hours and hours or mindless grinding without batting an eyelash.

lol, People say "omg i was a hologrinder, now that was hard!!!" such lies, theres nothing hard about afking to unlock JEDI. Sure you couldnt (OH WAIT!!!!) you could AFK your JEDI. U get buffed and u go to GEO caves, join a group and not only did u master any combat skill amazingly fast but you also had a loot macro running and a ton of yellow geo cubes by the time u'd mastered 20 or so combat professions. Then after selling these Yellow Geo-cubes u had enuff credits to buy the resources you needed to afk macro the remaining crafting professions. And you could grind JEDI the same way, don't try to argue it because i know many ppl who did it.

At the games current state its harder to unlock your JEDI toon than it is to grind it. Bring back the hologrind if u think it was that hard, with the invention of Kash Afk grinding any combat prof is easier than its ever been now.
And if you want an estimate i afk'd Rifleman and combat medicin5days pre-pub 9. Using a good system I.E. Master brawler then all the elite profs which branch from it, Swords, TKA, Pikeman etc. Then working your way thru them into the ranged you could unlock a jedi in 2months, maybe less if you were wealthy and smart enough. Your saying AFK grinding was unthinkable before? i used to see a fair few jedi afk grinding in Geo caves on chimerea, i played on several servers with my old account, same thing all round.
