So,moxxus, how does saber block work,is it a command?or is it just a skill mod?

True. I'm just feeling very discouraged after reading the stuff about Saber Block being dropped to, what... 25%?... after dealing with it in the hands of my 'enemies' at 85%. And this business about it's damage type being converted to Energy? And the goal for Jedi balance-wise as being 1.5x the power of a conventional class?
Bottom line is, none of us know whether it will be a good reinvention of lightsabers or whether the Jedi profession will wind up being gutted. Personally, my feeling is that Saber Block is such an iconic element of how Jedi are portrayed, that lowering it like this risks turning them into just another melee class. The way I'd balance it is to create a "Legendary Skills" tree beyond Master for every class in the game. This would be every bit as arduous as the Jedi grind, and would be at risk when the player dies in a fashion similar to the XP loss Jedi go through when they die. I'd think of Elite Master types as being the equivalent of a regular Black Belt karate expert (very good, and a master of his craft), with the "Legendary" masters being like the Bruce Lees of their craft. It would be here where the players would obtain the dazzling moves and techniques that would enable them to have a fighting chance against a full Jedi Knight (the incredible Dodge skills, the fully-functional Disarming Shot, the little salamanders that absorb Force, etc.).
The upside is that it would give all players a long-term goal (as opposed to grinding to "Master" in a week or two) and would truly balance them vs. Jedi without making Jedi a shadow of themselves. The downside is that standard PvE would need to be tweaked, but I would have ideas for that, too.
All I know for sure right now is that I hate this information vaccuum.
It's currently a passive skill -- it works automatically.

At master LS it'll just be 25 saber block, but advancing through the FRS is supposed to increase it to 85 after the CU, plus other professions are being changed, too, so it may not be any harder to PvP.

Except that getting up the ranks in the FRS is totally borked right now...
But, as someone said, it's yet to be tested. I'm not enthusiastic about the FRS, though.
When it comes down to it, though - there will be some abilities to compensate for the loss of saber block. Saber block became the primary means of defense for a Jedi (hence why Master sabers was so popular). When a shotgets through, boyis it painful. It slams your HAM pretty hard. There will now be unarmored toughness added to the Initiate box for starters (+20 I do believe) and that will help mitigate some damage at least.
Without Defender, a Jedi in the current system is like a newbie without armor - no defenses. The damage you take is dealt to you directly. That makes HAM management a nightmare, especially when you suddenly takes 1,000's of points of damage out of the blue. So, the defenses in saber block might not be as good, but there will be compensation - used to be that saber block saved your *ss. Now at least we get +20 toughness as Jedi Initiate. That's right, the second you get your first training lightsaber, you get a mod to mitigate damage you take. That'll help big time. I was a stimming fool when I was a Jedi Initiate. I just got smacked around badly by low level stuff.
