Thread: How do you become a jedi?
You know, I admit that I have the knee-jerk reaction to be sarcastic when I see posts like this one asking "How to Become a Jedi"...but you know what?
It actaully IS a valid question.
Think about it, this is Star Wars, and we're are *supposedly* free to make our characters into whatever we want, to create our own "saga" etc etc, or so the game box and all the game hype tells us.
I saw the SWG piece on CNN and they were pushing that you *can* be Jedi.
So, naturally, a lot of people are going to buy the game with the hope/intention of becomming one.
And Why Not? You think JK 1 & 2 sold all those copies b/c of the graphics engine? No, it was the fun of playing a Jedi that sold that game, same with the upcoming KOTOR. Jedi are an intrinsic part of SW, and to many, a *very cool* part.
There are tons of players trying to grind their way to Master Bounty Hunter, and I'm sure the fascination with the Fetts has *nothing* to do with that, right? So, likewise, there are many who want to play a Jedi, and since there is no obvious way to do it--no Jedi Skill Tree in the professions list, what are they to do but try to ask to find out how to become one? And how is the desire to play a Jedi any better or worse than wanting to be the 8millionth Artisan, or BH or Creature Handler?
Look at the BACK of your SWG box, the first bullet on the right is:
"Follow your own path...which accomodates your style of play, whether you become a bounty hunter or a dancer or a merchant or *even a Jedi*".
So, SWG is marketing Jedi as a possibility, a definite possibility, and are even slightly misleading by tieing it into the skill-based advancement, when there *is no* skill path to Jedi--you can't simply *choose* to play one, which is kinda what the bullet makes it sound like.
I don't get the point in flaming these people, most likely you, deep down, want to play one too. So why not try to figure out how to do it?
Or would you simply rather see the FS slots offered on eBay for whomever can pay for them??

It's no surprise people want to play one, given the nature/history of Star Wars, and given the hype in SWG.
I think given the number of servers, everyone should get one FS slot to use somewhere, just limit the overall Jedi population per server. Why not give people (who are paying for a game) the shot to play *what they want*? That's what SWG *claims* it's all about, so how could it hurt?
If you cite "balance", well, who cares? You really think the number of BHs and Creature Handlers is true to what would be found in a "real" SW Universe? I doubt it.
It's a GAME, it's fiction, and it should be FUN to play, given the hype surrounding Jedi, you should have the OPTION to play the *perma-death* FS char slot if you want to. And, you should be able to ask about it without being flamed to death for it...

2000 jedi walking about would make it an awful game for me. And that's how many people would be Jedi if they had the chance...
You are free to be a Jedi, if your lucky enough to get a Force Sensitive Character slot appear for your server... (first ones apparently wont happen for 4-5 months)
This game isnt about Jedi, its about the star wars universe, a galaxy set in a time when Jedi are even rarer than they used to be. Get over it, if you want to play a Jedi and guarantee you'd be one, you should've waited until Knights of the Old Republic comes out.
I also hope that when someone gets that chance that they don't spam it everywhere (for their own sake as well). Would be much better if they kept it secret until the first time they need to light up the old 'saber in combat.
