...Of a Jedi Initiate
Thought i'd post this here, rather than the Jedi forums, since i made Initiate only a few days ago now, and wante to share my experiences with those who're trying to get where I am now at. Hopefully to help give both insight and an enjoyable read, if not an inspiring read, for those who are looking forward to becoming a Jedi like I have.
This post is not meant in any way as a gloat or brag or anything like that.
It's more to help ease the road that the Village go-ers walk every day
My final day of grinding was Sunday 20th Feb 2005. Or so i thought. Due to a minor miscalculation, i was 100k FS XP short
Well 90k short to be exact. 40k on one branch and 50k on another in another tree (prowess and reflexes). Having found this out after dropping my commando skills, i logged out and decided to finish on monday. i had to go and finish off with c12 grenades. fun
Once done, i converted this xp and logged out for the night (monday 26th). The next day, i logged in and went to Lok where i stayed and logged out (had things to do in rl). Tuesday comes around, and I log in, shuttle to a player city on Lok, and the old man visits me. Sent out a mesg to a few friends in game that I had made recently, and they came to help me. five of us in all, we waltzed through Mel's camp with only one death, that of my friend Moxxus.
But we did the job and I went off to Meditate at the Shrine that appeared in my waypoints list.
Day 1 (Tuesday 22nd)
Welcome to the ranks of the Jedi. Finally, it was done. Sent off a big thank you email to those who helped me (this is something you really should do, out of respect for those people. And offer to help them with their missions too). Then began some of the Jedi Padawan trials.
These trials are probably the most enjoyable feature of the game i've played yet. They have enjoyable little stories for each trial. People you must visit. Things to do. It's fun. I especially enjoyed the Retired Musician trial. It was a sad story, of friends and lovers long lost.
I know the missions are all posted on the forums, so if you wish to read about them, just take a look around. However, i found it more fun to not read them up front, and to read through them as you get the quests in game. I compare it to reading the end of a book first, to find out what happens at the end, then going back to the start, to begin reading it fully. Spoils the whole thing. At least it does for me
I got about four of the trials done so far. Not sure how many more there are. I believe i've seen mention of about 16 or so. But i'm not really counting and not really worrying. Just having fun right now
Day 2 (Wednesday 23rd)
Thanks to two late nights in a row, i fell asleep when i got home from work, and never woke up till i had to go to work the next day. Day 2 was a bust
Day 3 (Thursday 24th)
Home from work, fresh and ready to play.... Need to go shopping for sons birthday stuff. Doh!
Finally logged into the game at 11pm and played for a little. Decided to not get a late night..boy was i wrong
Was off to Naboo to find some painting supplies for this artist.
Once this was done, i headed back to the Shrine i'd chosen for myself (just a personal thing) to meditate at and receive further guidance.
Visit the Village of Aurillia on Dathomir. And there i was, thinking i'd seen that place for the final time on monday night
Turns out a farmer there needed my help. Only problem was, the Sith Shadows weren't too willing to let me talk to the farmer and insisted on attacking me, hehe. So off i went and hid inside a hut and weathered the storm. There goes my hopes for a reasonably early night. hehe.
It's now about 2am. Work in 4 hours. Hmm, ok one more quest after the farmer. Still wondering when i get my lightsaber
Eager and full of hope, i head to the shrine and find out my next quest, hoping above hope that i can craft my saber finally. Nope, hehe. Kill some baz nitches.
Not so tough. Thankfully a giant baz nitch wild spawn appeared right next to one of my mission spawns. So i never had to move more than 2m to kill all 20 baznitches i needed
Rack up another mission. One more. I know this next one _has_ to be my craft saber mission, right? WRONG
Ok ok, i admit defeat. I log out and go to bed
Day 4 (Friday 25th)
Will update this later. I'm at work now and will probably update this tomorrow or much later tonight, before i go to sleep.
Hope you've enjoyed the read so far. It's been a fun ride for me with these missions. They've got a lot of fun factor in them.

Awesome. Thanks for giving us an insight on what is to come. I hope to unlock next phase and will experience this myself, but its always useful to have an idea of what to expect. Keep up the good work and good luck!

Day 4 (Friday 25th) cont...
Logged in about 11pm after the wife and kids were finally asleep. Was eager to continue my trials and become the proud owner of a nice shiny new lightsaber.
The missions went smoothly and had no bugged ones at all. Third mission into the night was the one I was waiting for.
Construct a lightsaber.
Aaah, the challenge I felt. Could I do it? I would certainly try my best.
After hunting around and speaking to some friends and contacts, i aquired some of the best resources that have been in the game. Mostly free of charge, thanks to one very kind friend of mine.
The moment of truth had arrived. Could i create a saber that was worthy of being weilded? First off, the Lightsaber crafting kit was to be made. A great success was given, and I managed to almost end up with positive numbers in the crafting quality. It's at something like -4.xx. With only 1 experimentation point, i thought this turned out quite nicely.
Waiting several seconds for that to complete, I began to anticipate a good follow up with my refined crystal pack.
as with the kit, i only had one experimentation point. An Amazing success. My luck was in it seemed.
Crafting the hilt, I realised i needed two crystal packs. So i created another one, which i got a great success on. Luck still on my side it appears. Then when i clicked on create for the lightsaber hilt, luck struck again. I got another amazing success.
I'm not a crafter, but i gathered this was a good thing.
Ended up with a Training Saber that has the following stats...
Speed: 4.7
Damage: 70 something to 144 (i forget the exact damage rating)
Wound: 3% or 13% i think. Again, can't remember off the top of my head.
HAM costs seem high.
Force Cost: 17
I will update with a picture when i get home.
Overall, i was pleased with my success.
I then had to tune up a force crystal. Not realising it meant a coloured one, i tried to tune a damage(clear) one first off. It wouldn't let me do this. Obviously it requires some Force power use. I don't have a Force power bar yet. However, I was able to see what type of crystal i had in my inventory. I had looted it from Mellichae, and it turned out to be a Quality crystal. Not bad i thought.
Ok, after realising it meant colour, i tuned up the coloured ones i wanted to use.
Then i tried to figure out how to put the crystal into the saber. This wasn't an easy task for someone who didn't know how.
Hopefully this will help others out...
First off I tried to drag the crystal onto the saber. No luck there. I then tried to equip the saber and thought it might ask me when i equipped. Nope. Just told me i couldn't equip it without having the right crsytals inside it.
Hmm, i thought i had done something wrong, and was about to try crafting a new saber. I went to destroy the old one, when i saw something appear on the radial menu. Open Lightsaber.
Ok, let's see what this does. Lo and behold, it opened up a new window where i could drag the crystal in. Yay. I popped in my dark green crystal and immediately equipped my saber. Now i'm cooking, at least, i thought i was
Off I ran into the wilderness to find the nearest Gnorrt. Haha, time to show these oversized rabbits what this Jedi Initiate was made of.
Well, I went into attack mode and the saber fired up ready for action. Since i wasn't sure of how effective this would be, I threw an intimidate 2 on the fell beast to ensure he couldn't cause me any damage.
My first swing struck home. I awaited to see the great damage, and was confronted with a whopping 7 damage
By now, the Gnorrt is having his way with me, and i've yet to cause a singe in the things fur. Something wasn't right here. "ARMOUR" I screamed to myself, hoping i didn't wake up the rest of the family. Frantically i began removing the armour as fast as it would let me. Finally, all my armour off, back to my normal clothing.
*SMACK* Another hit. Haha, i awaited another swing and checked the combat log again. alas, i saw two hits, one for 15 damage and one for 7 damage.
Had i failed in my crafting? Was my saber so bad that it couldn't hurt even the lowliest of creatures. I imagined an entire warren of Gnorrts laughing at me and my attempts to beat them with a stick that did less damage than they did.
I was beaten. The Gnorrt was getting the better of me and I was still nowhere near besting it in melee combat. Ok, time to put the saber away and give it a punch in the nose. *Bonk*. One hit and it's down for the count.
The awe of the saber was there, but my seemingly failed attempt to create this weapon of the ancient order of Jedi had caused my happiness to dissolve. Eroded away by an invisible acidic substance (i had heartburn
).
Ok, i'd had enough. It was about 3am and i was tired.
Day 5 (Saturday 26th)
No game time today. Sons birthday, long day, fell asleep at about 9pm and never woke up till the next morning hehe.
Day 6 (Sunday 27th)
Eager to get on and figure out what was causing my saber to do so little damage, I finally got my chance at about 11pm again.
Jumped on and went to see a friend who wanted to know if I'd gotten my saber yet.
Hoping that the friday nights issue was a one off, I flew to Dantooine to meet my friend, who was out in the field, gathering DNA samples from some Quenker Ravagers.
I arrived, and lit up my saber to attack the first Quenker I laid eyes on. Only then did i realise it was a bad idea. I suddenly found myself in trouble. This quenker was not only slaughtering me, but my saber wasn't even touching it, it seemed. Misses abound, a hit finally landed. Uh oh, 7 damage. I could feel the tears welling up as i saw my life flashing before my toons eyes. I knew he'd not last much longer. Was this the end for my Jedi Initiate? Thankfully my friend realised i was in trouble and let rip on the Quenker with a savage flurry of fists and feet.
I sat down and began to ponder this strange issue. Why would i keep doing such low damage.
It then dawned on me. My friend mentioned if i was wearing an armoured belt that might be what i missed taking off. I checked. No belt, but.... a Personal Shield Generator.
Of all the things... I had missed this item.
Removing it faster than you could say "jumping jack flash". I launched another fearless attack on another unsuspecting Quenker. It's working, i cried in happiness. It's working. (Imagine the cry that young Anakin Skywalker made in Episode 1 when they fired up the Pod Racer. Mine was similar to that
) My damage output was now hitting 140 damage.
Only problem was, two of the Quenkers closest family appeared and began helping their brother out. Within moments i was poisoned and incapacitated. hehe.
But I felt proud. I felt happy. I had a saber that did function. I wasn't a failure. My hopes were soaring through the clouds again.
After a little chit chat, i went on my merry way, to complete the rest of the missions that would put me on my path to Jedi Padawan.
This is where the horror began. I managed to do a whole 2 missions in approx 2 hours.
Every single mission was bugged. As i would approach the NPC's, they would vanish. Never to return. Sometimes they wouldn't even appear to begin with.
I also found, if i overshot them after they'd appeared, and went out of about 32m range, they would vanish again and never come back.
I don't know how many times i restarted each of the two missions. However, i found one Planet that they worked perfectly on both times: Tatooine.
Before that i tried Rori, Talus and Naboo. All of these ones failed to work. Only Tatooine ever seems to work properly. So now i'm going to try to get my missions all on Tatooine.
My first one I tried to do was help this woman who's child was sick. Turned out she sent me to a spice dealer. After a little talking to the dealer, he gave me the package and i returned it to the woman. She wasn't happy that i wouldn't let her have it at first. But soon put me in my place after she explained why she needed it. I felt bad. So i gave it to her.
The next mission was to help this land surveyor out. A Sharnaff bull had somehow managed to escape into the dune sea on Tatooine and was hanging around the spot that this land surveyor needed to check out. He couldn't go near the bull, it was causing him trouble and was possibly not too friendly. So off I went. Thinking i could take it down with my lightsaber alone, i valiantly tried. But my damage output and speed wasn't cutting it. So I switched to my more well tried method of fists and feet. I emerged the victor from the fight.
I went to try a third mission (on Naboo), only to find that it too was bugged, so i gave up and went to bed. I will try again tomorrow and try to get it on Tatooine again, since they seem to work perfectly there, everytime.
Hope you enjoyed reading this, more to come as i progress

Another thing i learnt on friday night:
The damage crystals actually tell you what type of quality they are once you are able to see this. I didn't realise it actually said it was good/fair/premium, etc. Now i do know what i'm looking at
And you can see the Teal crysals true name too

I think of all the time in the game, these missions to reach Padawan are great fun. Very enjoyable. While the missions seem to be rather buggy, I'm able to look past that for what they are supposed to be: Fun content.
Hopefully I'm not the only one going through these at the moment, and hopefully there are others who're having as much fun from them as I am. And it'll be nice to see any future Jedi remember with a chuckle, this thread, when they maybe make the same mistakes I've made, such as wearing the PSG hehe.

My mistake, it appears 13.1 didn't appear till a couple of days after I defeated Mellichae.
Sorry, i misread and thought you meant publish 13.0
But honestly, don't worry about it. If Mel drops no loot, it's no big deal. Personally i wasn't expecting anything from him. Just a win bonus that i got a damage crystal of Quality rating.

Yes, great stories!
I'll unlock and fill my last line tommorow, and it's nice to read about how much fun you are having.
