It may show in your skill box that you have it but you are hard capped at 125. Period.
"Defence vs _______" and Melee/Ranged Defenceare universal. Itdoes notmatter what weapon you are using, you still get full benefit (up to the cap) of your mods.
Dodge/Counterattack/Block are not universal. Itdoes matter what weapon you are using to get the benefit of these mods (also, up to the cap).
Actually, the statement about Dodge/Counterattack/Block above is only partially right.
While it does matter what weapon you use, it still can be any weapon that has the same bonus.
For example, if you use a Pistol you get your combined Dodge Bonus (Up to 125) even if you have dodge from the Fencer tree and none from the Pistol Tree (it doesn't tell a difference where the dodge is from, only that you can dodge with a pistol)
Same thing with a one handed sword and the Pistoleer Dodge...
The Counter attack and blocks can be stacked as well, but Dodge is the most abused one, which is why they put in the hard cap. They still are encouraging stacking, just not unhittable templets.
IF the weapons only worked with their own tree (Pistoleer using only Pistol dodge when he has the pistol) there would have been no reason to make the hard cap change in the first place.
