I just made Novice Fencer on Kauri, and was wondering which of the 3 Sword XP branches I should work on first...Stances & Grips, Footwork or Technique?

I am working on stances and grips, while a fellow fencer is going the Technique route. We plan on training each other along the way...

Well, I just got Footwork and working on my next box, but I'm wondering whether the game is designed for completing rows on the skill tree first or columns. For the XP cost of a fourth level box (450,000), you could get two first level boxes (175,000 each) and have some to spare, plus you'd have more combat options (moves).

I suppose this is really player preference, but I'd like to hear some feedback.

Thats player preferance, either way you are going to gain the same amount of levels in the same amount of time. Personally I'd rather have a high level attack while tryign to aquire the lower tier skills =)

Also, I definatly think Footwork is the best first skill to get. You get a +20 to speed on the 2nd skill. And Spinattack2 on the third. My definate first choice.

Definatley foot work for first tier. It gives you your bleeds, a new spin and speed and knockdown defenses.

Footwork, definatly footwork.

The fencer profession is based upon speed. The only tree that grants more speed is footwork. All the other moves just drain the mind pool for powerfull but less effective attacks. We are not a class built apon power, thats why are weapons are so low on the max damage. And with a nice Health Hit 1 you can make your opponent continue bleeding even after you are incaped/slain.(dirty trick but very effective)

Im just restating the obvious, but Id have to say footwork, I just got Advanced Footwork last night and its a 50% increase in speed. (+40 from up to Novice Fencer, then +20 from Adv Footwork). And at Master Footwork its +33% more again. I used Beserk and was hitting what seemed like every 0.5 seconds for 600 damage. My Sludge is 220-230 damage at 2.0 speed and we bought down a 10% kinetic resist Sharnaff at 10K HAM to 0 in under a minute. Also.. some info on the bleed: Its a very strong bleed, Ive seen it do from 200-1000 Bleed damage in a hit, also has a nice wounding if it works right, a couple of my friends Ive used it on had around 288 Constitution wounds. I also picked up Int Technique because One-Hand Hit 2 doesnt target a specific Pool, and I like Body Hit 2 so that I can target the Health Pool more accurately. On a player, Ive done 2797 Damage using Body Hit 2 with my 82-203 Damage Rykk. Also.. Finesse is nice. But keep in mind something very nice about Fencing, our Bleed moves are in Footwork which is Weapon XP based and not hard to get (relatively) all other melee bleed moves are in their Finesse Equivalent, Combat Based. This means we have a slight advantage here
