With the coming of this CURB, the skillz related to melee have been non-other than hacked, chopped, and or destroyed. As it stands im a Master Brawler, Master Ranger, Fencer 3/4/2/4, and deal out a 500dps. But with a rifle I got as a quest item I deal out 760dps and lack all skill in which to use it. where is the balace? The "ART" of hand-to-hand combat has died out. Now every joe smoe out there is packing heat.

AS much as I want to disagree with you I think you are right, dmg wise that is. TKM aside (they are filling the def role very well) Melee isn't faring to well in the dmg department, especially fencer. I know we aren't supposed to be Dmg dealers but we aren't good at DOTs either fencer has no advantage one its own it is merely a support profession for swordsman or tkm. Melee in general still is viable is played well but yeah the melee proffesions that are supposed to deal dmg don't stack up to all the good ranged weapons, many do more dmg without any skill in it.

Ipersonally do not like being an asset to a swordsman! I would like either Dmg. or Def. and of coursethe DOT other wise we are no more then Cannon Fodder!

melee is still very fun and very effective...you just need to learn how to play it.

that uber dps is not good enough to beat me if it rarely hits me!

we are still astrong profession, we are just not uber. With smarts you can win just fine. So far only one ranged personhas beenable to beat me in a duel and he was stacked in foods, drinks and spices while I just had brandy...

/agree. Unlike the ranged kids who just spam root and ranged shot, we have to acually plan out our moves, think five steps ahead. Dodge behind buildings, break their line of site. Use food effectivly, use your skills from other professions effectivly. We might have to work alittle harder but in the end It just makes us that much better.

totally disagree.... melee is as good as it used to be, but you need to know how to use it. I haven't lost to ranged profession since I have figured out some good combos

I agree that melee is working well. I've played a good deal of ranged since respec and just decided to try out fencer (my first love) again. As a ranged profession in the event that a creature actualy reached me I was as good as incapped/dead. As a TKM/MFencer/MBrawler/0230Medic/MHeightenedSences I've been able to take out groups of creatures easily and have them pound away at me.

Today I accidently tapped a lair of some CL 81 Pikets we had just just started fighting. I ended up with about 15 pikets attacking me. Thanks to my melee skills I was able to survive their attacks. I did need a large deal of healing from the Jedi in the group but as any other profession I would have been incapped without any chance for healing in this case (trust me I've done it, MCM/MCarb, did an area heal and aggroed about 7. I was incapped before I could step).

I think the big deal with melee professions now is to pick 2-3 of them to combine. With just one melee profession you probibly won't do well at all, but with 2 Elite Masteries and some extra skills you'll be quite well off.

Well... if you approach ranged combatants over an open plain you will most likely die, that's true. The secret is to not do it. If you're melee combatant and engage an enemy in ranged combat you must not be suprised to loose.

I also made the experience that, when you are in PvE and your group does not have any ranged combatants, you still can make advantage of ranged skills. Please have a look at these ranged weapons with no skill requirements:

When fighting in a group and watching the damage bump up above the targets I can see that riflemen and swordsmen can outdamage us fencers and that's it.

There all good points... But still the factor is that I can do more dmg. with a weapon that I have no skill in.

That should not be the case either, I have not lost in an open plains field as well

Id like to know what weapon you could possibly have with no skill in that can top mine. That would really suprise me...

I beg to differ...With the new "Blade of Nyenthi'Oris" max dmg of 1034 and avg. at 850 dmg,, myself and my buddy another Master Fencer slew dozens of Nightsisters lvl 82 - 84 last night, and Rancors. Just the two of us, no ranged people at all. All i can say was that I am glad he was a master doc too, because the nightsister tended to gang up on us 3 at a time. (Nightsister Battlefield on Dath).

I am a lvl 58 Master Fencer

He lvl 80 Master Fencer / Master Doctor

vs.

approx 36 Nightsisters lvl 78 - 84

and 3 Rancors lvl 84

The Winners? Us by a Landslide!!!

too bad we didn't have Entertainer Buffs...would have really done well on the xps
