Burst Run, COB, ThunderCloud, Alot of Defense, and a Decent weapon is all you need.......... Soon as you get close enough to lunge at a ranged fighter and KD him it should be all over if you know what you are doing.

you could even add Dodge food in there and the chances of you getting hit would be even lower lol

With the coming of this CURB, the skillz related to melee have been non-other than hacked, chopped, and or destroyed. As it stands im a Master Brawler, Master Ranger, Fencer 3/4/2/4, and deal out a 500dps. But with a rifle I got as a quest item I deal out 760dps and lack all skill in which to use it. where is the balace? The "ART" of hand-to-hand combat has died out. Now every joe smoe out there is packing heat.
imo > you need to master Fencer, drop master brawler, dabble or master another elite melee prof, and learn how to play it.
the other guys have made some good points - but there's no reason to lose to ranged opponents, even in open-ground, if you know what you're doing.
also remember that someone who's master ranger + melee will have a slim chance of beating someone who is stackedwith Ranged combat professions... be realistic.
a completely stacked melee template vs a completely stacked ranged template - my money goes on the meleer every time.

I agotta agree w/the melee having the upper hand, I've been pvping alot since Curb hit and out of around 120+ kills and 50 or so duels against other stacked ranged profs I havent lost to a single ranged profession yet, not even close asa matter of fact. Know how to play your character, get some good foods/spices and that's all she wrote, hell my stun baton is only 230 base dps and Im still not loosing to these people, now that I got the acid sword life just got even easier

I have to say that melee is still a great option in PVE and PVP. True, there aren't nearly as many all melee out there since the curb, but it's just weeding out the people who don't really know how to play melee and only took it up for it's stacked defenses and DOT weapons.
I'm having no real problems in PVP against ranged. In fact, the only time I've lost is if they have a massive headstart and are burstrunning away as they root me.

I agree with you everyone is BH or some type of ranged prof. now. But at least the melee professions had their reign for the first 2 years of the game, with the exception of rifleman of course. I would suspect in about a year from now there will be another rebalance were everything gets shifted back more towards melee prof. At least look at this way, for the most part you are dealing more damage than most jedi could ever dream to.

lol, yeah learn how to play a melee toon, right.
Ppl have been playing them since LAUNCH!!!!
I have one question to ask you smart @sses, why is it that the jedi I grouped with (full template) with a FOURTH generation LS used a Laser Rifle and did more damage than she could with a LS????????????????????
Explain that MR "Learn how to melee"!!
Yeah, I didnt think so.

Jedi seems more to be some Tank/Healer hybrid than anything else.
It's tough enough to beat as it is. It can heal better than a Doctor, buff better than a Doctor, tank better than TK, more damage would be a bit OTT.
Jedi is nothing like other Melee. The basic principles go right out the window. Jedi have a ranged attack (Throw LS + Powers), very potent healing abilities, but have little to be desired in offence power.
Jedi is more about outlasting your opponent. Usually, your force > their mind.
For the record, DPS is not the best representation of your weapon effectiveness.
Max Damage is more important than DPS.
Think Max Damage, then SAC, then Speed.
Plus, what is this 760 DPS Rifle you speak of ? That would need to be about 500 base, and that would top any Legendary or Exceptional Weapon I've seen. With a 760 DPS you could hit for absolutely insane amounts. I hit for 5k with a 500 DPS Rifle + Snipershot. You could one - shot incap anyone.
Please clarify on the location of this uber rifle, never came across it myself.

you can't compare jedi to normal melee professions b/c jedi isn't melee they have melee attacks, and ranged attacks (force, ST)
