Could I possibly do well with a fencer in pvp, assuming I had a ranged knockdown like Low Blow to let me close the gap, then dizzied the opponent?

Please post if you have any fencer experiences in pvp... I want to know if it's worthwhile.

Well having only Fencer as a combat skill I can tell you that we suck in PvP. Since all ranged attackers are able to shoot through building, rocks, the groud, really anything. And since they suffer NO penalties to hit you while either you or them are moving it is next to impossible to close on a target and engage it. Some times if they are not paying attention then you can get the drop on them and beat them down. But most of the time your going to be on your back or checking out the inside of the Cloning Center.

And we won't even discuss the silly notion that a duel should be an honourable thing and not some easy way for 20 Imperials to blast you into atoms one you pick up a TEF.

As your means of PvP combat it is not worth it to be a Fencer. Much better to pick up a gun and be like the thousands of other blaster jockeys out there.

PVP asa fencer is fun, but I have to agree with Vredek also. Don't pick a one on one fight in the open with a ranged opponet, it's just not going to work. Unless your very close and can use your lunge, but they try not to let that happen.

If you want to PVP with your sword, you should be with some others that have good range abilities (pistoleers, BH, etc). They can start the fight, but you can finish it quicker if you can attack.

Try to PVP when there are large groups on both sides. It scares players when they have to switch targets to a crazy fencer running at them, and by that time it might be too late. Players can only attack one thing at a time, so its either you or the other guy. Pray it's the other guy.

I actually got my use out of my lunges and dizzy yesterday. and it actually works on other players. It was asmall enclosed areawith lots of things happening, major battle and such.

Its fun to actually drop your opponent to the ground and watch that person wiggle around as you tear them to shreds

So just pick your targets carefully, but remember were dirty fighters. So we need to use every sneaky tactic to get the jump. Don't start the fight, but end it

In alarge battle you'll probably do okay, especially if your buddies are using knockdown moves or your target is kneeling/prone. One on one you'll need some ranged attacks though. I like to charge with my pistol, use melee defense 1 for a KD then switch to my sword when they're on the ground, gotta be fast with this move though.

In a mass fight, Fencers can do just about as good as anyone else. Lunge/Dizzy, they're on the ground and they're meat. Then again, with the KD changes coming through, Brawlers are just kinda fecked, especially with the Lunge nerf, but that's another topic...

Honestly, yeah, your best bet is to find a big group and get yourself involved. Make sure you're not in the enemy's direct LOS so you don't take the initial damage and concentration, then slip in and bury your vibro in their prone back. =X

Besides, Fencer aren't the red-headed stepchildren. =P That's reserved for Pikemen, Commandos, Bio-Engineers, Droid-Engineers, Chefs, and Squad Leaders...

Unfortunately once they nerf knockdown ranged players will smarten up and actually use their suppression fire + dizzy and do the exact things we do, except from long range. That SUCKS.

only auto fire and a rifle skill can cause dizzy with range weapons. Auto fire ( carbine) currently does not stick to the target. Only rifle men can dizzy and suppresion fire and their reload is long enough that it can be countered.

Rifle gets an ae dizzy and a ae posture change... plus they get something like +80 total to rifle speed, and the rifles can get sliced for speed... That adds up to a rather fast shot time.

In melee vs. melee they're is nobody that can touch us, even when I had only one column mastered I was housing the best pikeman on my server (Master pikeman and some of TKA's defenses) and coming **edit** close to beating master TKA's... and this was with only Master Footwork. So I am going to disagree with everyone that said we sucked. I am also at least 50% against ranged (unless faction where they can start shooting at me whenever they want) but in straight duels, before you start the duel put them on follow and then when the duel starts lunge, if you miss, burst run. They should never get more than 8-9 meters from you and you can lunge from 10 meters if I am not mistaken.

I agree with the others, we are good in PvP IF we are backed up. For instance, a pistoleer/fencer combo is awesome. A friend of mine and I snuck up on a Rebel Doctor the other day. My friedn was able to close the gap faster than I because he has higher scout skills, and used pistol whip. Then I closed in and dizzied while the target was still down, and followed with a lunge when he got back up. Of course the first lunge didn't stick, so I hit him again and he finnaly went kneedown, and did that ever so satisfying topple animation when he tried to get back up. Then a few seconds later he was toast.

Unfortunantly with my Ryyk, I was heavily damaged from using two lunges, a dizzy, and one MeleeHit2. God our HAM costs blow. I was also able to solo a marksmen the other day, he hit me 4 times with his dinky DL44, but still I was heavily damaged from the specials. So I'm gonna work on Master Brawler and and get Stances for Dizzy2, and hopefuly these HAM problems will be addressed.

Well i think it is a good idea to go 1h swordsman because of the good defenses, my main plan is master TKA and 1h swordsman. Then go up carbineer skill tree for ranged KD and counter attacks,

If the defense vs. knockdown, posture change, etc. gets fixed, Fencers will be serious threats in PvP. If you can find reasonable enough people who won't spam knockdown, you win quite often. Fencer vs. Fencer fights are real fun too. Still undefeated in those.
