I wanted to take some time to bring this to the attention of the players and developers. I recently stopped leveling rifleman because of a HUGE game mechanic flaw concerning melee and rifles. Its such an obvious mistake in the way the game looks at melee vs rifle when in melee combat that Im very surprised it isnt fixed already.

Some of you Im sure know of this problem already and others are about to be enlightened to it. This only happens with a combination of 2 professions, and I have been able to repeat this many many times.

Here is exactly what the problem is. When a character has the fencer profession, and novice marksman if he is getting the hell beat out of him in PvP or PvE he can simply equip a cdef rifle and what ever is attacking him will miss 90% of the hits on him. I can prove this, and show you exactly how it is done. And this is the reason I quit leveling rifle I could tank 10 rancors unbuffed uncentered by holding a rifle while they bled to death and I would be hit maybe 2 times the entire fight.

Now you may be asking why I posted this on the Rifleman, GCW, Fencer, Tempest, and Jedi forums, and the answer is this. I dueled 2 jedi yesterday to test this and when I was not holding my trusty cdef rifle created by an artisan about 2 minutes before I tested this I would be hit about 50% of the time by saber hits, and force kd would not miss me, wouldnt kd me but wouldnt miss either. When I equipped the rifle I was hit less than 10% of the time, and force KD never once hit me, it just missed every time. Im not exagerating it missed me every single time.

If you dont think this is a serious issue that affects all the forums I have posted this on then to you I apologize, but I know I am right here and this needs to be fixed. There is supposed to be a bonus to hit a ranged combatant when being attacked by a melee profession. That is why they removed the 2.5x damage multiplier for rifles. Obviously this did not work, and the system is horribly broken.

The problem isn't the Rifleman profession... but your stacking of defences from Fencer coupled with Rifle skills that caused this. This is the main piece I believe the devs meant to limit by having the 2.5x multiplier for melee vs. rifle was to cancel out the effect of defense stacking... when they removed it though they still didn't fix the bug that causes this to happen.

Does this only happen with a CDEF Rifle or does it occur with other Rifles as well?

It happens with any rifle I equip it just happens that I am only certified to use a cdef or dlt20 as Im novice marksman in rifle. I am not a rifleman anymoreI sold it back after finding this originally.

Yeah it's the defense mods stacking together, and all the points being used while holding a rifle. Minor screw up on the dev's part for allowing such defense mod stacks in the first place.

No read my post man when I dont hold the rifle I get hit 50% of the time... I have no defense mods from rifle at all, but when I equip a rifle ( cdef or dlt20 which is all Im certified for ) I am nearly unhittable.

This exist for so long now, it has been reported many times and it still exist.

Even some players got banned for it because Csr's thought they were exploiting.

I hope this gets fixed soon too.

it's a confirmed bug, klaw and the devs know about it -

there is a bonus to melee defense when holding a rifle (and having a certain skillset) where there should probably be a negetive to melee defense (or at least neutral). possibly due to something goofy with the block mod and dodge - no one really knows.

as a master rifleman/master fencer/tka/medic, i can confirm this problem (and do my best to play around it honorably).

note> intimidation seems to negate this flaw to a very large degree, and tkm's/fencers can hit through it very well (when intimidated). -last time i checked.

I agree. I am a master rifleman and get hit at a pretty high rate...although I have not tried equipping a CDEF in a very long time. I have no brawler/elite melee. So the issue has to be with your stack.
