All he has is novice marksman and I am assuming master fencer. What he is saying is when he is holding a fencer weapon(at master fencer) he gets hit 50% of the attacks dealt towards him. When he equips his cdef rifle(with only the skill master marksman) he gets hit 10% of time if that. I know exactly what he is talking about as I have experienced it first hand.

Here is my exactl build and what is causing this as far as I can tell.
I am master tera kasi, 4400 fencer ( no dodge mod ), 0040 pistoleer ( no dodge mod ), master brawler, 3000 medic and only pistoleer from the marksman tree.
I have no defenses from rifleman and no dodge bonuses beyond what you get at novice for pistoleer and fencer.
Now in a fight in melee I get hit 50% or close when holding a pistol/ fencer weapon/ vk, and I get hit less than 10% when holding any rifle cdef, dlt20, laser, t21 doesnt matter as long as its a rifle.

ive known about this for awhile but i can tell you what when i mastered fencere i have never died so much, that may reflect my honesty or stupidity or both.. but.
arent they suppossed to nerf the defense stacking soon?

sounds like sanother case of soe getting variables messed up again. personally i dont doubt it.

This is not a result of defense stacking as when I equip a rifle I do not gain any skills and I have no skills with a rifle at all. Its simply a bug with melee vs rifle.

I experienced this as well, and it actually made grinding rifle xp very boring. Click to fire then read a book until the battle music stops then repeat. I didn't notice itin PvP but most of my opponents were ranged and I rarely fight 1-on-1, usually base defense/assults. I actually got bored enough with leveling rifles to drop it and finish my holo grind.

I'm a master Rifleman and a Master TKA and I have noticed a little of what you are talking about, but not quite to that extreme. I almost always stay unarmed though because of the dmg reduction due to mitigation. I would have to agree with Seflyn though. This seems to be a bonus to your melee defence when you have a rifle equiped. The devs just probably got it backwards like the time they got the armor piercing backwards. Since not that many riflemen have a lot of melee defense it has been ignored, but in your case, since you have tried to build a character around melee defense the bug is actually helping you more than it would any other rifleman.
Like Seflyn said, the devs know about it, but it doesn't seem to be a big priority to them. I can tell you most rifleman don't want the extra defense and a good many of us would even like to see the 2.5x dmg back (would that be 7.5x dmg when knockdown?). As it stands, it only has a major effect on high melee defence characters like yourself. Of course I haven't tested any of this so I can't be sure. I hate testing and would rather just play.

I posted to this thread on the fencer forum as well, but I have also run into this issue. I had a melee/ranged defense template using tka, fencer, and rifleman. Using a melee weapon I would get hit a great number of times by mid-to-high-end critters. When I would equip a rifle, however, I almost never got hit by anything less than a kimogila in melee. This made grinding rifles a real bore after a while as there was nothing to do but stand there and shoot against anything that wouldn't kill me regardless or take an hour to slay. I lost interest and went back to holo grinding, although I did like the build and it stood out a little from what a lot of others were doing at the time (most were dodge/counterattack stackers or BHs with pistols or carbines.)

Actually, now that you mention it, I have noticed a similar effect. With pretty good +melee defense, I still get hit a considerable amount while carrying a melee weapon, but as soon as I equip my FT, things begin to miss ALOT...like the 5 minutes I stood (bio break) outside Narmle after training my last TK box with a thug swinging and connecting about 1 in 30 times.

They said they were fixing combat in the next few patchs hopefully that will take care of stuff like this.
