Hmm I am not sure I like the idear of fencers using swords, what about a blast-club or blast-bat.

Blast sword? Whats with everyone's obsession with blast damage? Try asking for more Singing Mountain Clan to spawn instead of nightsisters. No stupid 100% resists on them.
p.s.- The x-wing series was written by a guy who still thinks x-wings are firing "lasers" as well as every other weapon in SW. Do you really want to take a tech item from his small imagination.
You'd think he'd at least give stormtroopers the reach around they deserver....

If I remember correctly if put in current terms it's a metal stick with a shotgun charge on the end.
In the series it created a blaster charge which released on impact... in effect it's a blunted pierceing weapon which fires a blaster bolt any time it's jabbed at a target.

At least he captured space combat in a more emotional and dramatic way than any other SW EU book ever.

Previous posts have indicated that as soon as the tip comes into contact with something, it fires. I think though that "blast" was actually derived from the term "blaster," so it would more likely be an energy weapon, but I wouldn't say no to a blast weapon.
It sounds like one of the many numerous attempts to create a technologically enhanced melee weapon aside from the lightsaber. The idea of some kind of blaster muzzle at the end sounds a bit clumsy, but if a design was considered, I would make it look like an actual sword and just put some kind of vents at the point and emphasize the blast effect through animation.

god i hate that game...
a blast fencer weapon... that would make me happy... then my fencercould solo elders 
fencer defences > swordsman defences
