Thread: Attacks Bypassing Secondary Defenses
I'm sure everyone knows this, but, I figured I would complain here, anyway.
Well, certain attacks, most notably Damage Over Time specials, totally bypass secondary defenses (counterattack, dodge, block). That is, if you manage to dodge or counter or block a bleed attack, you'll bleed anyway and get wounds. Some attacks (I've noticed the Scatter Hits of the Fencer tree and certain Teras Kasi Artist attacks, probably the combos, I'm not really sure what the attacks are called in the combat spam) also bypass defenses and hit for full damage. I've fallen to a Teras Kasi Artist after being hit only *once*, and dodging all the rest, attacks that miraculously went through and hit me anyway. Also, the block defense also seems to be *completely* broken for MOBs. It never fails that when a MOB blocks one of my attacks, it hits anyway for full damage.
I can only assume that this is either a "feature" (a very, very, very *bad* feature) or a glaring bug that no one at SOE seems to have noticed.I don't think I should *bleed* and be *wounded* byacarbine blastthat didn't even make contact!
Block isn't supposed to prevent damage, it's supposed to reduce it.
other than that, i've noticed the exact same thing. dodge a BH pistol torso shot, and you're still on fire. my scatterhits can be devastating on certain opponents, too. i think that's part of the reason people are able to solo larger enemies. lay on a bleed that ignore resistance and armor, and it's a waiting game. you just need stims and good armor.
No, blockis supposed to onlyreduce the damage, not completely negate it. It is supposed to happen more often to balance this, though. Not sure if it really is, you'd have to ask the pikemen. And then, block could be broken and could be completely negating the damage, but it's not supposed to.
How do you know if the attacks bypass it? the only way to really know would be to compare the combat spam damage, the floaty number damage, and the HAM before the attack minus the HAM after the attack.
The above is to my knowledge, i could be wrong.
What do you think I did, Spotty? You think I just got incapped, there was a Teras Kasi Artist attacking me, and I just assumed that his attacks bypassed my defenses? No. There was *no one* else attacking me, and as I saw successful evasions in the combat spam, I was still taking damage from his attacks.
And no, I don't think block is supposed to reduce damage. Why would it? If you put a metall staff in front of a sword's blade, it's not going to hurt you. At all.
And my point is that block **DOESN'T WORK AT ALL** on MOBs. If they block an attack, it does the full damage of the attack, after applying resistances.
I have to pay more attention to my grammar... I'd hate to have my posts misinterpreted:
"And my point is that block **DOESN'T WORK AT ALL** for MOBs. Ifa MOBblocks an attack, the attackdoes its full damage, after applying resistances."
and as for it not working with MOBs... well, MOBs also used to not have correct combat equilibrium. or use their specials. or have their force powers. stuff like that. so there are many different variables.
i'm not arguing that it's working. i have a hunch that it's not working properly. unfortunately, all i have is that hunch, and i haven't seen anything (on this thread) that definitively shows block is broken for players. i wouldn't be shocked if it were, though.
i regret that i don't have this information... so it's still up in the air.
Block is just like Fencer and Pistoleer's dodge: it prevents attacks that normally would hit from doing any damage at all. It doesn't even reduce damage; all attacks simply bypass it.
And for bleeds, I'm not talking about armor. I'm talking about dodge, block and counterattack. If you dodge, block or counterattack a Damage Over Time attack, it'll go through anyway, causing you to bleed and doing lots of wound damage.
Yeah, Dot attacks are pretty much automatic. They don't miss and can't be evaded. Some of them (this really sucks) aren't even subject to mitigation. The only question when one is applied is... how much will it land for? That's the only thing that a rifleman or bounty hunter or commando or TKA has to sweat. Will they land a minor DoT that causes some problems for their foe, or a haymaker that lays them low quickly. More than not, it is the higher end of the spectrumfor a master.
This impacts afencer more than other professions as we are more defensively oriented andwin by tanking not by spamming hits incessantly. So, whenyour foes most lethal blows are impervious to your defenses, you havecause to be worried.
From what I've been reading, it also seems like players are taking full damage when they block an attack, too.
