Thread: AP and the Stun baton

Just curious on this subject, since people have been clamoring about adding AP1 to the stun baton.

Is it logical to add armor piercing capabilities to what essentially is a blunt edge weapon? I can understand on a gaffi or the swords we use, but not so much on the baton. I mean, it is a baton, and being such, has a rounded appearance and no noticeable edges.

Please don't flame this, I just want to get an idea of what you guys think about it.

The only reason the stun baton is popular is thatit does stun damage and composite armour is vulnerable to stun damage, e.g. the armour is vulnerable to it so there is no 50% reduction for using an AP0 weapon on an AR1 target. Since the stun baton is only really useful for PvP against people using 90% comp (its damage is rubbish) there is no real point to making it AP1.

Actually, there are more and more stun resist comp suits going around lately, and the numbers will just increase. Adding AP1 to the Stun Baton would prove to be very useful in the near future.

I'm all for giving us a little AP, but come on, on the stun baton? You can at least reasonable explain AP on a sword, but not the baton. Besides giving us AP on a stun baton would make the masses cry for a nerf.

Actually, I never PvP, and I still find the stun baton a very useful part of my arsenal when hunting. I find that lots of creatures out there with lightor medium armor and/or kinetic resists often are stun vulnerable, or have significantly less stun resists. Plain vanilla rancors are a good example of this.

I'm sorta torn on the issue of whether or not the stun baton should have armor peircing characteristics or not. Stun weapons should sort of "ignore" armor, not pierce it. As long as stun resists stay relatively uncommon and lowon creatures and player armor, I think it works as-is.

As was stated, the real problem is that its being made totally useless by the new armor coming out. I have 80% kinetic armor and if I just stand there a TKA can still do some pretty hefty damage, but my stun damage on stun layered composite armor is laughable (40-50 damage on a target with 2995 health). And what right do the masses have to cry nerf when rifleman, the profession dominating PvP right now, has an AP 1 stun weapon? If anyone cries its going to be the obscenely rich who pay 1 million for a set of stun armor, not the average player. Without my stun baton im useless in PvP and its starting to lose its worth more every day.

It's possible to be too powerful for your own good, and adding AP1 to the stun baton would do that in my opinion. If you know what you're doing, fencer is one of the most powerful pvp professions in the game. With the recent advent of the acklay bone weapons coming out (there are 900damage stun batons floating around out there people) fencer weapons have gotten a HUGE boost in damage (though not all fencers can afford them of course).

It would be nice for our damage output, but it would cause an outrage in the game. If any weapon needs AP it would be the gaffi stick. A huge club with a spike on the end of it should have AP, a small baseball bat or police night stick shouldn't. It's a blunt weapon much like a lead pipe. When's the last time you saw someone use a lead pipe and have it peirce through a bulletproof vest.

I agree , an AP1 stun baton would be much too powerfull.....

Most pvp'ers with a stun baton will already have an acklay enhanced baton. Even against a fully buffed opponent you can dispatch them very very quickly.... adding AP1 would just bump fencer up on the NERF list.

Plus fencer is supposed to do stupid amounts of damage - we are all about our defenses. We have the best defense of any melee, this is what we are about - not damage

There are not 900 damage stun batons floating around. There is ONE 900 damage stun baton. And not too many people in the future are going to have one. There's probably not even one near that on my entire server.

I'm sure there are a few around, but not everyone wants to come forward and claim ownership, because trolls will come through and cry "nerf" on it. But honestly, we need something done..maybe taking out stun layered armor, or giving the gaffi AP. Hell, I dunno..just as long as they don't nerf defensive capabilities of the fencer.

Well I can see both sides really.

First the Stun Baton is IMO way way betterthen the Gaffi for PVE. If your not using your Stun while your hunting, you are missing out.

Stun weapons were made because composite armor was way to powerful for PVP. Which was great, but then people griped because they were to powerful. Probably justifiably, since not everybody has them.

However, now with the really nice stun armor out there, stun weapons do hardly any damage at all. You can't make the weapons stronger, because then they would rape people without stun armor.

The reason that people think AP1 is the answer is because it would have ZERO effect on somebody not in stun armor, yet only reduce stun armor protection in half (not negating it,) allowing stun weapons to still be somewhat effective.

For the "realists" out there who don'tsee how a "stick" can have AP. Think of itkind of like electricity, it conducts through armor. Shoot somebody in platemail with a Tazer, and they still feel it.

My thought is this:

No AP1 for a PVP weapon like the Baton....BUT...I would like an AP2 or AP3 weapon for PVE so I could actually hunt stuff like Krayts or other big game.

It sux not being able to damage a Krayt at all while watching a HS stand there and wail away, making 4-5 million off the pearl they loot. An AP3 kinetic weapon would not unbalance PVP too much I think, cause most would still use the AP0 baton (how many people use T21s in PVP as opposed to Jawas?).

I solo alot and am frustrated when I cant do anything but ask for a Rifleman friend to come and actually kill stuff while i just bob and weave as a tank.

GIVE ME AP3!!!

there's no way we're getting anything more than AP1, i dont see why people are asking for AP2. it would be nice but that would make us overpowered
