I purchased SWG a week ago with the hopes of being a Fencer on Bria. Since then a lot has changed.
I admit, a week is not long to play this game, but I see a lot of problems with fencer already.
I started off at Tyrenna on Coreilla (spelling) as a Brawler. I had problems soloing. I would not die a lot, but the game forced me to rest every two or three kills due to the damage that I took from enemies. This made me take up the Medic profession. Although being a Medic helped a bit, I was still forced to rest a lot. The first two levels of one-handed sword were relatively easy. I decided it was time to get a new weapon at about level 2. I got a Vibroblade (30-150ish, 3.0?)from local Master Weaponsmith Nedar to replace my worn out Baton. Yes it helped a lot. When I reached level 3 and 4, gaining experience had become a pain. 50,000 exp? 75,000!? You must be kidding me. QuicklyI searched the forums for advice. I found it! Curved sword! I went and got one. Sliced it to about 50-150, 2.6. What is the result? I still sucked.
Okay so in the end I did make it through to be a Master One-Handed Swordsman.. but at what cost?
While doing this I picked up Marksman. I decided to go for Rifles. First off Rifles were so much easier than Swords. I did not have to take NEARLY as much damage when hunting, and the experience came a lot easier. By the time that I had reached level 2 I had gotten a Laser Rifle from Nader (20-300ish, 6 speed) . I breezed through Master in two days. After I got the Rifle I was able to set a macro for those creatures that I could kill with one hit and gain experience from the area of lower level creatures around me. The macro was kneel, headshot, stand. As a Brawler I did not do this due to the fact that I had to run up to each creature personally just to attack them, and I'd sustain damage while doing so.
Okay so I proved that Ranged is easier than Melee to exp, what now? Well Ranged is also better in PK... My friend using Unarmed and Pistols take less damage than me while experiencing...
What is wrong with Fencer? I might not even bother to try and get Novice Fencer, that is what. It is far far more difficult than it should be. Why would anyone bother with Fencer when they could be TKA or Riflemen in way less time and be so much better? Thats the problem. Fencer vs Swordsmen. 2 Handed Swords have SO MUCH MORE DAMAGE, and are FASTER too? (100-200, 2.0) Fencer vs Unarmed. TKA have more + to damage in their trees, and have more defense? What happened to our parrying? Also, why is it that when I do One-Handed Melee Body Attack I KICK? Argh...
Some of you may suggest that I get a ProBot or Rancor? I don't like the idea of being so weak that I need another class (Droid Engineer, Creature Handler) to assist me. Any battle class should be able to stand their own ground fighting... well thats my 2 cents.

Why should the game be easy? This game is WAY Too easy to advance, read this board i posted at least 3 diff ways to get the xp for novice fencer in one night-two nights, yup thats right. They made this game way too easy to lvl up in. so if people flame you for saying its too hard, its only because you havnt put an effort into figuring out the proffesion and the game.
But to agree somewhat with your post yes Brawler types have a little more trouble than ranged, cause we gotta get up close and personal. IF you dont want the 'Challenge' of being in the brawler line, leave. But if you think it is a challenge worth takeing, why are you complaining about it, you just made it a accoplishment if you succeed in it, why do you want it handed to you?
