I just started one-hand to become a fencer.
I was wondering how to pull/pick a single mob in an aggro pack : getting in range means that nearly all the pack will aggro...wich tactic do you use?

cheers

it's all trial and error really.some will individually pull. some pull in groups. Say you have a group of 3, I would select each one and see which one is closest. If 2 are the same distance I move around until I can find a direction where one is closer than the other. Stay 30m out or so, then slowly creep in step by step until one aggro's you and then run in the opposite direction to pull him out of the group. Try to take note of pull distances as you go and it will eventually get much easier to do.

This takes patience but it will (hopefully) keep you from getting bum rush. Watch the pack, while out of argo range (if you have scout skills use Mask Scent to ensure they don't argo prematurely). What you are waiting for is when an individual or a small group of two or three move away far enough to where when you pull you don't pull thewhole pack on you (haven't calulated the distance...sorry).

If you have one, run up and give it a smack, then run back a good distance to prevent any friends from argoing. If it's a small group of two or three, select one of them (if they range in con select the highest coned one) and hit an attack button that isn't ranged (I usually use taunt). The one or two you didn't select will come at you and if needed back off more so the third won't agro when you change targets.

Hope that helps.

Try using traps. I toy around with traps every so often and I find a decent delay of about 5-10 seconds of throwing the trap. I'll toss one, usually a wire-mesh trap at an aggro/social mob and his buddy will run at me first while the one I trapped takes his time rolling up into combat. Against modest foes, I can usually have the friend dead before my original target enters melee with me. This only works with animals, obivously...but give it a shot and see if it works for you.

The thing with using a gun is that if you don't watch the distance of mob A from the rest of the pack you'll end up with the whole pack on you, including the mob you shot. Yes, with the method I give there's still a chance you'll get more then one on a pull, that's why you need patience. If one is patient and waits for the right moment to pull you are more likely to survive the fight.

Besides, my method doesn't require any additional equipment...as you already have what you need from the brawler tree

Yes, I am puriest Fencer andyou won't see me using a gun for any reason.

A CDEF Rifle *grin*

You waste nothing but a little space in carrying one to pull your enemies, the only part it plays is the fishing rod, you're the one who guts the fish.

I have a simple response to this... but it requires using a gun .

If you buy yourself a gun, any gun, it doesnt have to be good and you dont have to have any skills with it, you can use it to pull things.

Drag that gun to your quickbar thing at the top of your screen.Drag your melee weapon of choice to the quickbar at the top of the screen as well.

Now, just equip the gun (click on it in the quickbar), even if you have no skills with it, you can still fire it.Select your target and start shooting at it. Even if you miss, it will notice you and start running for you. If its a ranged beastie, it'll just shoot you .

Once it gets to you, switch to the melee weapon (click on it in the quickbar) and start hacking away. Or use intimidate. Or whatever . There may be delay in the switching between weapons, so as soon as you see it run for you, you might want to switch immediately to your melee weapon.

I've gotten Level 2 in both pistol and carbine by doing this with simple guns, hehe.

I think that aggro packs are easier to pull. If you /peace first and then come at the one most distant from its fellows a step at a time you will not autoattack the first one whenitcomes at you. If you run out of range before initiating attack you usualy get only one. Pack herds that are not aggro are the ones I find hard to pull. It is a pity that we do not get something similar to warning shot to keep one at a distance when you get two.

Pack herds? It's either a pack or a herd...

Nonaggressive: Herd? Let it rain blood!

Pack? Scatter them by running into the middle and making lots of noise!

Aggressive: Herd? (Do they exist?) Edge closer to you get the attention of one, run, kill, return, repeat.

Pack? If it ain't too much of a challenge, copy the herd tactic... If it's something to be worried about; pick the most distant, line yourself up from outside the 'circle' of the herd with the target, and fire a single shot from your horrible CDEF or whatever. If it's something with lots of resistances and high HAM, it would also be viable to send a mean pet in, nothing huge, just something that can hold its, own, and while it absorbs the damage, you take out the completely distracted pack one by one. I find this works nicely on the 'sentients'... NPC's, that is. Send your pet into the camp (I don't like the term tanks, as I always intend to bring the pet out alive, because in a roleplay sense I feel affection for the pet. I only sacrifice group members, not pets.) and take out the distracted enemies as they circle your pet.

eheh no. I meant attacking after the pet already has all the aggro.
Going below 5 meters will make the mob turn from pet to me...at least in my experience...
